#PinkTutuBlogNYC: New York, New York, it’s a Wonderful Life! (Post #970)

Monday 6th January 2014

Helloooo darling readers!

This week, it’s me, Emma, reporting live from the Big Apple, ready to spill the tea on all the fabulous things that have happened in this magical city since I last graced you with my words. Now, before I even begin, I simply HAVE to share: New York is officially on the top of my "most gorgeous cities in the world" list, right alongside Paris, London, and my own sweet hometown of Derbyshire. But I digress…

So, where do I even start? It feels like I’ve lived a lifetime in these past few days. First up, let’s talk about what every fashionable soul craves: shopping! I have to tell you, darling, this city is an absolute paradise for fashion lovers. The moment I landed, my feet literally started to tap, eager to hit the stores. My senses were overloaded!

From the trendy boutiques on Bleecker Street to the legendary flagship stores on Fifth Avenue, I’ve had the time of my life exploring the city's many sartorial wonders. Now, I have to admit, I’m a bit partial to pink (what can I say? I’m a pink tutu kinda gal!). And trust me, the options for the colour of my soul are abundant! You should have seen my eyes sparkle as I strutted through the racks, finding the most gorgeous silk blouses and whimsical vintage dresses in the most heavenly shade of blush imaginable. Of course, my purse was overflowing with fabulousness, especially after a glorious afternoon at Bloomingdale’s – how can a girl resist?

But my travels weren't just about fashion, darling, it’s all about the experience, you know? Let’s dive into the soul of the city. This is where it really gets interesting! New York is buzzing with life, it’s vibrant, it’s diverse, and the people are simply captivating. From the charismatic artists in the Village to the stylish creatives on Broadway, every corner held a story waiting to be told.

It's hard not to get swept up in the energy. Even a simple journey on the subway (which, I must admit, is the most wonderful way to travel – just think, a rolling fashion show with the most fascinating characters!), was a whirlwind of humanity and a glimpse into the city's beating heart.

You'd think with all the amazing things happening in this city, it’d be hard to make time for ballet, wouldn’t you? Oh but you'd be so wrong! This city is absolutely rife with the most fantastic ballet opportunities, from world-renowned companies to intimate dance studios, it's like a ballerina's paradise! And it all culminated in a jaw-dropping performance by the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center! I honestly haven't seen anything like it in my life – the choreography was breathtaking, the dancers so graceful, and the music, darling…it transported me to another world. Let’s just say my feet were tapping the entire time, and my pink tutu felt perfectly at home!

As for today, well, I have an appointment for a ballet class at The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and you know what that means... Pink tutu ready, darlings! I wouldn’t miss it for the world! It's truly the highlight of my week, an opportunity to move, to learn, and to share my passion for dance. And you bet your bottom dollar I'm gonna document it all on Instagram for you, so keep those eyes peeled, lovelies.

Speaking of documentation… What's new in the world of Pink-Tutu.com? Oh darling, so much! Remember my dream of getting everyone in the world wearing a pink tutu? It's well underway, thanks to the wonderful world of online inspiration!

There's been an amazing response to the new “Pink Tutu Friday” social media campaign I launched – everyone is taking part! Every Friday, the whole wide world (well, at least those who like to play along) puts on their pinkest tutus and uploads photos. My feed is absolutely exploding with beautiful, spirited, pink-clad photos! There are doctors, lawyers, mums, teachers, toddlers, even grandmas joining in on the fun, each in their own beautiful way.

It’s magical to see such a universal response. Every picture is a little reminder that, when we open our hearts and embrace a little bit of pink, a bit of magic and fun fills the world. And wouldn't you know it, people are even starting to share their pink tutu stories on the blog, which makes me so happy.

From a little girl who wore her grandma's pink tutu to her school talent show, to a grown woman who rediscovered her passion for dance in a pink tutu after years of being afraid to take that first step… It’s been a journey of incredible heart-warming stories. And I am humbled, really humbled, by the incredible support and connection that's happening through the pink tutu!

So, that’s about it, darling. The city has taken my heart, the shopping is phenomenal, and ballet is absolutely captivating, especially with the latest pink tutu on my hips. Now I'm off to prepare for my dance class – I need to get my steps in before my show tonight! (I can’t divulge any more, it’s a surprise!) But I promise to update you with all the details later.

Until then, embrace the pink, be yourself, and dance like nobody’s watching (although, I might just be watching… 😉)

Lots of love,

Emma, your Pink Tutu girl from Derbyshire!

A Bit About Monday, January 6th 2014 in NYC:

Ah, January! The fresh start, the feeling of possibility... but of course, New York being New York, there's always something buzzing in the air. For today, specifically, here's what we have going on:

  • New Year, New Show: The Public Theater opened its doors for The Nether tonight. An exciting thriller! Now, you know I’m a fan of all things theater, especially in the city that never sleeps. It’s on my "to see" list already!
  • The Art Never Stops: A new exhibit, “Women of Vision: Photographs of the American West,” opens tonight at the Museum of Modern Art. Can you imagine, cowboys and tutus? Now there’s a photograph for you!
  • From Stage to Street: Speaking of theater, tonight, “The Lion King” graces the stage at the Minskoff Theatre. This masterpiece deserves a special mention. It’s one of the most immersive and beautiful theatrical experiences in New York! (Maybe a little pink tutu to add to the vibrant scene, hmm?).
  • New York Eats, Even When it's Cold: Now, it may be chilly outside, but nothing warms up the soul more than the delicious delights of the Big Apple. The food scene, oh dear, it’s an absolute adventure. Tonight, the hot spot for my taste buds? "Atera," one of the hottest new fine dining restaurants in town!

That’s just a taste of what New York City offered tonight. But I’m ready to dive into a new week and new discoveries - I promise to share every little detail with you all on my next blog post. See you then, darlings!
