Oh, darling, you won't believe where I am today! Yes, New York City, the city that never sleeps, is the destination for my latest ballet adventure! The air crackles with energy here, a delicious blend of honking cabs and street performers' tunes, and it feels like everyone is on the move, going somewhere fabulous, just like me!
I know, I know, you might be thinking, "Emma, what's a ballerina doing in New York City?" Well, dear reader, this week is a special one, a pinktastic celebration of all things dance and fashion.
Today, the sun is shining, but the wind is crisp, giving the streets an air of playful excitement. A thick blanket of fresh snow lies over Central Park, inviting those brave souls (like yours truly) to slip on their warmest winter coat, pop on their pinkest tutu, and take a spin around the frosty paths.
It's all about getting those pink tutus seen in NYC, don't you know? It's my life's mission to share the joy and whimsical freedom that only a twirling tutu can bring, and you know what? I'm already seeing signs that it's catching on. Just the other day, a fellow shopper in Bloomingdales looked at my tulle-tastic attire and said, "Girl, you've got some serious style!". I had to remind myself that the Pink Tutu vibe is going global, and one tutu at a time, I'm paving the way!
But back to my New York adventures, this weekend is truly magical. As I step off the Metro at Times Square, it feels like the entire world is sparkling at me. Neon lights bathe the streets in a kaleidoscope of colours, and a bustling crowd fills the pavements, a blend of tourists snapping selfies and businessmen rushing to their next meeting. Yet, even in this frenetic energy, I see beauty and creativity everywhere - the rhythmic tapping of tap dancers on a street corner, the flamboyant costumes of a street performer, and even the graceful arc of a pigeon taking flight.
Yes, I'm embracing this vibrant city with open arms, and of course, my pink tutu!
A Ballet Celebration:
Tonight is a night to truly celebrate! My favourite, the New York City Ballet, will be performing a magnificent double bill at Lincoln Center. Imagine the elegance, the breathtaking precision, the artistry that explodes from the stage! It's a symphony of motion, a visual masterpiece that I simply cannot miss. The program is nothing short of spectacular – Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet, two classics that I've dreamed of seeing since I was a little girl twirling in my own pink tutu in Derbyshire.
The beauty of New York, though, is that you can find a bit of magic on any corner. And, you'd be surprised at the number of hidden gems I find while exploring the city. Earlier today, I stumbled upon a little ballet school tucked away on a quiet street in Greenwich Village. There, amidst the laughter and the thump-thump of music, I was transported back to my own ballet classes in Derby, where the joy of dance first bloomed within me. I watched a class of aspiring ballerinas – all in their bright leotards and sleek tutus, stretching, leaping, and embracing their passion. My heart sang with the familiarity, the common thread that binds us all through dance.
Shopping Spree!
New York is a wonderland for the discerning shopper, and me? I'm certainly not immune to its sartorial allure. From vintage boutiques to chic department stores, this city boasts a fashion scene like no other. And I'm definitely on a mission to find the perfect tutu to capture the energy and flair of NYC.
The iconic Bloomingdale's has a delightful selection of feminine frocks, frilly blouses, and – of course – the most enchanting collection of tutus I've ever seen. From a sleek and chic black tulle for a night at the theatre to a vibrant hot pink masterpiece for a weekend of fun in the city, Bloomingdale's truly caters to every pink tutu princess, whether she’s a budding ballerina, a confident professional, or just a girl who loves a touch of whimsical sparkle.

Of course, a trip to New York is not complete without indulging in some of the world-renowned theatre productions that grace its stages. I already booked tickets for a production of "Hamilton", which I hear is a truly spectacular experience – a vibrant celebration of history and music. Just imagining the dazzling costumes and captivating performance sends a shiver of excitement down my spine. I even managed to get my hands on two of the most coveted tickets in the city - for "The Book of Mormon". It's guaranteed to be hilarious and full of Broadway energy, and what's a girl to wear? Of course, it has to be a hot pink tutu! The combination of satire and sequins will be pure Broadway magic!
Metropolitan Magic:
Let's face it, getting around New York can be a challenge, but with the help of the iconic Metro, a.k.a the subway, I’ve embraced the city's pulse and learned its secrets. It’s more than just a transportation system - it’s an ever-evolving art form! The graffiti-covered trains are like moving canvases, each a story waiting to be told.
Even in the crowded carriages, amidst the cacophony of noise, I've found pockets of peace and shared smiles. Sharing a seat with a fellow tutu lover - a little girl proudly sporting a sparkly purple one! It's a delightful reminder that we’re all connected, united by our shared love for everything whimsical and a touch of fabulous pink!
A Taste of New York:
This journey to New York wouldn't be complete without tasting some of the city's famous treats. I indulged in a quintessential New York hot dog, a true street food delight, with that unmistakable crispy skin and sweet relish. Of course, I’ll be sharing all the delicious culinary discoveries I encounter in the coming days - think steaming bowls of Brooklyn chili, succulent bagels with cream cheese, and even a slice of classic New York cheesecake - a true sugary treat to savour!
