#PinkTutuBlogNYC: New York, New York, It's a Ballet Lover's Paradise! (Post #973)

Hello my darling tutus! It's Monday, and you know what that means - it's time for a brand new #PinkTutuBlogNYC post! I'm so excited to share my latest adventures from the Big Apple with you. And believe me, these adventures were sprinkled with glitter, pirouettes and a healthy dose of pink!

I touched down in NYC last week, fresh off a whirlwind performance at the prestigious Royal Opera House in London. A girl’s gotta keep those pointe shoes well-worn, and what better place to dance my heart out than the bustling city that never sleeps? The thrill of taking the stage and feeling those applause reverberate through the grand halls is simply intoxicating! But let’s face it, you can’t just live on performance fees, so I make sure my travels are a balance of work and play.

This time, I’m focusing on all the magical things NYC has to offer, and let me tell you, it’s an absolute feast for the senses. Think dazzling Broadway shows, glittering couture shops and charming cafes where you can lose yourself in a good book and a delicious cuppa (I love that English slang!). But of course, the pièce de résistance, as far as I’m concerned, is the glorious New York City Ballet!

A New York Ballet Love Story

Since I landed, I've been savouring every second of being here. I’ve even managed to squeeze in a couple of ballet classes – a vital requirement, don't you think? My body feels like it’s ready to take on anything (well, maybe not the entire New York subway at rush hour!).

I love everything about New York Ballet – from their incredible repertoire of classical and contemporary masterpieces to the incredible talent of the dancers themselves. It’s a magical combination of strength and grace that never fails to leave me in awe.

Today, though, I wanted to focus on a specific production – one that stole my heart and reminded me why I fell in love with ballet in the first place. It's the iconic Swan Lake, and oh my goodness, I’m completely smitten! The elegance, the drama, the pure ethereal beauty - I literally felt like I was transported to a fairytale land.

You see, dear readers, there’s something incredibly captivating about Swan Lake. The music, Tchaikovsky’s timeless masterpiece, simply transports you to another world. And the choreography! From the playful exuberance of the white swans to the haunting grace of the black swans, the story unfolds before your eyes, captivating you with its elegance and beauty.

Seeing it on stage, live, amidst the bustling city lights and with the sound of the orchestra filling the theater was a truly transformative experience. I felt a profound connection to the story, to the emotions swirling on stage, and to the sheer talent and artistry of the dancers.

But beyond the sheer talent of the performers, what I found particularly charming was the little details that the company incorporated into the performance.

When Beauty Lies in the Detail

There were playful nods to the history of the piece – subtle interpretations that gave the classic ballet a fresh, contemporary spin without ever diminishing its intrinsic charm. The costume designer, a true visionary in her own right, created a stunning array of elegant ensembles, a true ballet costume extravaganza. The costumes brought to life every nuance of the performance, and the breathtaking colour palettes and intricate detailing truly made them works of art themselves.

Speaking of costumes, I couldn’t resist treating myself to a new ballet tutu. You see, my dear tutus, it’s a matter of principle, really. I think everyone deserves a pink tutu, and why not embrace the pinkest of pink while I’m in the City That Never Sleeps?

The tutu I bought at a charming little shop in SoHo, complete with the most stunning pink silk ribbon you’ve ever seen, has already been on quite the adventure with me. From a brisk walk through Central Park (I swear, that park is like its own separate country – it’s so vast!), to taking photos in front of iconic landmarks like the Flatiron Building, it’s become a true part of my New York story.

And yes, you guessed it, I did a little pirouette outside the New York Public Library. Can you imagine? Me, twirling in front of those majestic lion statues! What a photo opportunity. I posted it on my Instagram with the hashtag #PinkTutuNYC, and let me tell you, the response has been amazing! It seems I’ve managed to inspire a few tutu-wearing fans!

But, it’s not just the tutus, my dears. Every little detail in this city, from the friendly faces of the locals to the architectural marvels you see around every corner, inspires me in new and wonderful ways.

A City of Fashion and Flair

So, now for the pièce de résistance: shopping! I simply adore NYC when it comes to fashion. Forget online, this is where I live for those exciting in-person moments in gorgeous stores. You know me and my obsession with everything pink, so of course, I’ve had to explore all the fabulously pink stores on 5th Avenue. My shopping basket is brimming with goodies – think pink ballet shoes (I’ve already decided they’ll be my go-to shoe for next year’s London performances), and of course, several stunning outfits for my evening out in the theatre tonight! I’m already picturing myself in my new tulle dress and pink fur stole as I walk down those dazzling red carpets in Times Square.

You see, the secret of dressing in pink in a big city is all about having fun. It's about not taking yourself too seriously, embracing colour, and letting your personality shine through! My trusty pink tutu helps me stay true to my personal style, and that, my dears, is priceless.

Adventures on the Subway

When you think New York City, you can’t leave out its iconic subway system. Oh my, I’ve had some adventures there, from dodging those bustling rush hour crowds (don’t worry, I managed to keep my pink tutu spotless!) to watching the diverse tapestry of humanity pass me by. It’s truly an incredible journey!

One of the highlights of my recent subway journey was striking up a conversation with a fellow ballerina on her way to a performance. We swapped stories, shared advice, and realized that, despite being miles away from each other, we share a deep passion for dance. It's these unexpected encounters that make this city truly unique. I even overheard a little boy asking his mum if he could wear a pink tutu, and oh, did she have a pink tutu in her bag. That little anecdote truly warms my heart, making me believe in the power of spreading joy, one pink tutu at a time!

And talking about spreading joy, today, it's 'National Get to Know Your Customers Day'! I thought that would be an appropriate topic to focus on for today’s #PinkTutuBlogNYC post as I wanted to tell you all, my dear tutus, how much I appreciate you reading this blog and sharing my passion.

More to Come from New York City

I’m just beginning to explore all that New York City has to offer, so there's so much more to come from my New York adventures. Expect to hear about more fabulous fashion finds, more spectacular performances and even more inspiring moments of beauty, grace and yes, lots of pink tutus!

For now, my dearest tutus, I leave you with this: never underestimate the power of a pink tutu. It has the power to make you smile, to express yourself, and to inspire you to live your life with a sprinkle of sparkle and a dash of grace!

Keep dancing, my loves! And remember, I’ll be back next Monday with more stories from my adventures in #PinkTutuBlogNYC!

Until then, happy twirling!

Love, Emma
