Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 986 - New York, New York! (Monday 2014-04-28)

Helloooo darlings! It's Monday, and you know what that means? Time for another Pink Tutu Blog NYC post! This week, I'm positively bouncing with excitement, because guess where I am?! That's right, I'm in the Big Apple, New York City! 🍎

Now, you might be wondering how a little ballerina from Derbyshire ended up here in the heart of the concrete jungle. Well, you see, darling, a couple of months ago, I snagged a lovely little ballet gig - think high-kicks and pirouettes at a glittering charity gala! (The most divine dress was involved, naturally - think shimmering pink sequins!). With the generous commission for my performance safely nestled in my ballet bag, it was time to make a dream come true – to take a trip to New York! I'd been planning it for years!

I was SO excited to land at JFK. I'd been dreaming of New York ever since I was a little girl, mesmerized by the bright lights of Broadway, and picturing myself swirling across a stage, a delicate pink tutu dancing in the spotlight. I arrived on a crisp Friday, all sunshine and hope.

You know how it is, darling, when you get to a new city, it's almost like a delicious rush of possibilities! Every street corner seemed to be brimming with energy, with sights, smells and sounds you could only dream of back in the countryside.

This trip's about more than just pretty ballet shoes and dazzling stage lights, you know. This is all about living life in a pink tutu, about exploring, and celebrating the sheer joy of fashion, ballet and everything fabulous!

Now, my first priority – gotta hit up that amazing Zara on Fifth Avenue! I snagged some seriously stunning new outfits – let's just say, this little ballerina is ready to rock New York! After a quick stop for a super cute (pink, naturally) Starbucks Frappuccino, I hopped on the subway.

Have I mentioned the subway? It’s truly an adventure! I was mesmerised by all the sights and sounds – a vibrant melting pot of humans all weaving their way to their own little stories. I confess I did take a rather splendid selfie with a pink-tinted subway mosaic – definitely going on Instagram! The New York subway is actually rather charming. People are rushing but they always make room for me on the crowded carriages, I guess because of the tutu!

Speaking of things pink – have I mentioned the most amazing bakery? It's right near the Empire State Building and they have the most glorious, heart-shaped raspberry macaroons. Every time I see them, I feel a little piece of ballet bliss – just the right amount of sweet and delicate, like my favorite ballet pointe shoes.

Oh, and have you seen this new Broadway show “Hamilton”? It’s revolutionary. I’m pretty sure the actors are channeling a bit of ballet magic on that stage! It’s amazing to be surrounded by all the passion, creativity and pure excitement that’s right there in the heart of theatreland.

My biggest regret so far, darling? Not taking a pair of pink tutus! But let’s just say my dancing shoes have had a whirlwind trip, exploring Times Square, Central Park (where I had a fabulous picnic!), and all the cool vintage shops around Soho. I was so proud to wear them amongst the elegant New Yorkers!

Tomorrow, I’m going to head to Lincoln Center to see a special performance of “Swan Lake”. I can't wait to be surrounded by such incredible artistry! There’s something truly magical about witnessing the magic of ballet in a city so full of energy and culture.

What I love most about travelling, though, is the chance to truly embrace the local fashion! I’m seeing some amazing things! From sleek and sophisticated, to cool and edgy – this city never ceases to inspire me! I picked up the coolest little silver locket at a vintage shop – and you’ll never guess what I’ve popped in there… yep, a teeny, tiny, miniature pink tutu. It’s perfect, darling!

Being in New York just feels right, doesn’t it? It’s this magical combination of hustle and bustle and artistry, where every street feels like a catwalk. It’s kind of like a fairytale for a ballerina! And I can tell, I'm definitely going to have some more fantastic adventures to share in future blogs – the ones I can talk about, that is. Some of them will be top secret, and you'll just have to come on the trip with me next time!

But for now, darlings, it’s back to my hotel room. After a fabulous afternoon wandering through museums, I’m going to do what every ballerina does on a Monday night - stretch out in my prettiest, softest pink tutu, and dream of New York. Until next Monday, keep twirling and keep shining!

Much love, Emma xx
