Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #991 - Monday, 2014-06-02: New York City, Ballet, and a Tutu-ful Dream!
Hello my lovely Tutu-ettes! It’s Emma here, reporting live from the Big Apple! I'm positively buzzing with excitement after a weekend filled with twirls, tutus, and that inimitable New York City magic.
As you know, this is my ninth-hundred-and-ninety-first blog post from this wondrous city – you know me, always one for making lists and counting! - and, frankly, it just keeps getting better.
This week, I'm talking about all things pink, tutus and ballet, with a sprinkle of fashion and a touch of travel magic! If that's your jam, grab your favourite tutu, settle in with a cuppa and get ready for a whirl-wind adventure.
From Derbyshire to New York: The Tutu Takes Flight!
It's been another incredible journey here in New York City. I feel so blessed to share my experiences with you, to spread a little tutu magic, and to remind everyone that it's ok to wear pink and embrace your inner ballerina.
You see, I never could have imagined a girl from Derbyshire, a small village tucked away in the English countryside, dancing her way to the bustling streets of New York. But here I am! I fund my travels by performing in ballet shows, and honestly, what could be more magical?
A Week in the Life: New York's Ballet Beat!
My week in NYC was a tutu-filled dream. I hit the ground running with a dazzling performance at the Joyce Theatre on Tuesday. The stage was electric, and I swear I felt the entire audience on their feet as the curtain dropped. Later, we celebrated with a traditional New York pizza - delicious!
Wednesday morning started with a refreshing jog through Central Park, all the way to the Met! Oh, how I adore the Metropolitan Museum of Art - there's so much inspiration to be found within those walls! And of course, I couldn't resist a quick spin in front of the Egyptian collection, which always brings a little extra magic to my day.
Later that evening, I discovered a charming new tea room near my flat. Honestly, their afternoon tea was a real delight, especially the delicate rose petal biscuits!
The Broadway Blitz!
My Thursday night was a real highlight - a night out at Broadway, you see. The energy is just electric in that famous theatre district! I saw a spectacular revival of a classic, but, of course, I can't give you any spoilers - you'll have to see it for yourselves! Afterwards, the bright lights of Times Square invited me in for a spin. There's nothing quite like a twilight stroll under those iconic billboards.
Friday saw me take on the subway for a thrilling trip downtown to SoHo, a district brimming with unique boutiques and hidden vintage gems. The hunt for that perfect tutu is an adventure in itself! (For those wondering, it's a beautiful silk tutu with a stunning swirl of pink and blush, almost like a summer sunset). It just needed to find its way home to my ever-growing collection!
Saturday afternoon brought me face to face with the iconic Chrysler Building. As a self-proclaimed "tutu enthusiast," it’s impossible for me not to compare its beauty to a stunningly sculpted ballerina. What can I say, it’s an artistic mind at work! Later, a delicious picnic at Central Park in the warm New York sunshine wrapped up a lovely weekend, you know how much I love fresh air! The aroma of fresh pastries mingling with the laughter of the children - absolute bliss!
And Sunday? Well, Sunday brought the calm before the storm, or, shall I say, the calm before another week in New York City, filled with tutu magic! I spent my day relaxing at home with a good book and my favourite hot chocolate, the perfect blend of luxury and simplicity.
New York: The City that Never Sleeps and Never Stops Twirling!
What I love most about New York City is its endless energy and possibilities. It's a city that never sleeps and never stops inspiring, a constant flurry of colour, creativity, and joy. And, of course, I can’t forget the fashion! Walking through its bustling streets is like stepping into a fairytale, with so much to discover, and such a fantastic mix of people! It's a vibrant and colourful city that captures my imagination.
Pink Tutu Dream!
My aim in life, and it might just be a crazy one, is to get everyone to wear a pink tutu at least once! Because wearing a pink tutu, believe it or not, has become about more than fashion to me, it's about celebrating a playful spirit, a passion for life, and a little touch of whimsy!
Don't you just feel happy when you see someone twirling around in a tutu? The smiles it brings are priceless, and that, my dear Tutu-ettes, is why we wear pink.
Looking Forward, and to Another Tutu-filled Week!
So that, my darlings, is my week in a tutu-nut shell! I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey with me. If you’re ever in NYC, come find me, we can share a slice of pizza and swap tutu tales! I'll be posting weekly, so keep an eye out on www.pink-tutu.com every Monday.
Until then, remember, be bold, embrace the pink, and don’t be afraid to twirl!
Sending you lots of pink and love!
Emma x
PS: Today is a special day in New York! It's National Doughnut Day! (Oh yes!) You know I couldn't miss the chance to share this news. There’s nothing better than a fresh donut dipped in delicious icing on a sunny day, wouldn't you agree?
And because it's Monday, and it's pink, I’m sharing my favourite recipe for pink strawberry glazed donuts!
Pink Strawberry Glaze Donuts
Yields: 12 donuts Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 box of donut mix (or your favourite homemade donut recipe)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup fresh strawberry purée (or you can use your favourite strawberry jam or sauce)
- 1-2 tbsp milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of pink food coloring
- Sprinkles (optional, but highly recommended!)
Instructions:
- Prepare your donuts according to the box instructions (or your own recipe). I love to add a touch of pink to the batter too.
- In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, strawberry purée, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add pink food coloring until you achieve the desired pink hue. I recommend a pastel pink!
- Let the donuts cool completely before dipping in the pink glaze. You can use a pastry brush for an even application.
- Once the glaze is set, decorate your donuts with a sprinkle of colourful sprinkles!
- Now for the important part – EAT! Enjoy!
I'd love to see your pink tutu outfits and pink strawberry glazed donuts. Be sure to tag #PinkTutuBlogNYC on Instagram and Twitter, so we can all share in the pink goodness!
And don't forget, we can all dance, and we can all wear pink!
Have a wonderful week, everyone!
