Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post #997: Twirling Through The Big Apple!

Monday, 14th July 2014

Good morning, darlings! It’s Monday, and you know what that means... a brand new Pink Tutu Blog NYC post, just for you! I’m writing this from a sunny corner cafe in the West Village, with a steaming latte in one hand and my trusty pink tutu swirling around my ankles - yes, you read that right! My trusty pink tutu always accompanies me on my adventures, wherever I go! This week, however, I’m absolutely giddy with excitement, as it's been an absolute whirlwind of a weekend, exploring the magical city of New York!

The city that never sleeps truly lived up to its name this weekend. I had a truly dazzling schedule: the grandest of ballet shows, a bit of shopping therapy at the coolest boutiques, and a little stroll through Central Park with a cherry on top. What more could a girl ask for?

But before we dive into the fabulously pink details of my NYC adventure, I must confess something: New York's energy was overwhelming, even for a seasoned traveller like me. It was exhilarating, exciting, a constant stream of colour, music, and motion. My usual composed Pink Tutu style was practically screaming "hold my pink tulle, I’m about to take on the Big Apple!"

Let’s start with my Friday night escapade: a truly magnificent ballet performance at the New York City Ballet. Oh, how I adored those graceful ballerinas and their shimmering costumes. I simply cannot describe the pure, unadulterated beauty of that evening - the stage was lit, the music was enchanting, and I was absolutely mesmerized. Honestly, you can practically hear me from here - "Aaaaaah!" I felt transported, right into a whimsical world of grace and elegance. This was no ordinary performance, darling. This was ballet heaven. And it goes without saying, the iconic Lincoln Center was a spectacle in itself, bathed in the golden light of sunset.

"The city is my stage, darling."

Afterwards, I had dinner at one of those charming little bistros you see in the movies. The ambiance was enchanting: low lights, twinkling chandeliers, the soft hum of conversation - and of course, the menu was a delightful symphony of culinary delights. Oh, the food, you simply had to be there. I finished off the evening with a delightful walk along the shimmering East River, with the magical lights of the city reflected in the water. I know what you’re thinking, and yes, even a pink tutu makes an appearance during these enchanting evening walks! It's just me. After all, my trusty tulle doesn't mind a bit of urban exploration. She knows my motto, you know: "The city is my stage, darling."

On Saturday, I explored a neighbourhood with some serious shopping therapy, which, for me, is always a must when in New York. The vibrant energy of Greenwich Village instantly enchanted me! Cobbled streets, quaint shops tucked into colourful buildings, and the smell of fresh bagels - what's not to love? My credit card may have suffered, but hey, you can’t put a price on those perfect pieces for my growing pink wardrobe, can you?

Let’s just say, my trusty pink tulle took a lot of photos, as she helped me navigate the streets, sniffing out the best deals! She certainly makes finding those adorable little boutiques a breeze, and the shops are usually ecstatic when I waltz in with her - just like me! She really adds something special to every outfit.

My biggest score was a magnificent vintage dress, with cascading layers of lace and a vintage feel. I just couldn't resist! I imagine wearing it at my next ballet performance back home in Derbyshire - you know, the little, local shows I love doing for charity, to help fund my big city travels! (Yes, you could say I'm practically an expert in mixing tutu's and charitable work). Oh, and did I mention, I got the most perfect vintage brooch adorned with glittering pink stones to compliment it? It's absolutely exquisite, don't you think?

I indulged in some divine ice-cream - just a simple scoop of vanilla but so fresh and creamy, it was truly heavenly. Then, I decided it was time for a visit to the very iconic and picturesque Central Park. The sunshine was out, and the whole atmosphere was so lively and friendly. It was the perfect spot for a picnic!

A little picnic blanket, a small selection of goodies, and some delicious iced tea - what could be more idyllic? And of course, my trusty pink tulle was the centrepiece, shimmering under the sun, while I enjoyed my impromptu, little feast. This is my favourite part about travelling - being able to simply savour the moments, take in the vibrant atmosphere and embrace every experience, pink tutu and all.

And of course, it wouldn't be a trip to New York without seeing the majestic skyline. I found the perfect spot by the Hudson River, where the cityscape unfolded before me in all its glory. The glittering buildings seemed to reach for the sky, creating a truly breathtaking sight, a perfect setting for a Pink Tutu photo opportunity, if you know what I mean!

Pink, in every form

The thing about New York, darling, it's always a whirlwind. There's so much to do, so much to see, so much to explore, even when the day feels like it's coming to a close. This city is simply bursting with energy, so by Sunday evening, even the ever-optimistic, and somewhat pink-tutu obsessed me, found myself feeling the need for a bit of downtime.

So, where do you go in a city like this when you just want to relax? A place I discovered - the ultimate chill-out spot - was none other than a stunning art deco cinema with luxurious armchairs and dimmed lighting. Just imagine: I sank into my velvet seat, a bowl of buttery popcorn resting on my lap, while I got lost in the latest rom-com - "He’s Just Not That Into You," I think it was called? I couldn't resist a good, old-fashioned film, with a touch of drama! Oh, what a delightful contrast to my busy week!

But, what was particularly interesting about this place was, you guessed it - Pink! It was painted in every shade of pastel pink, with pink-and-white candy stripes! It felt as though I had stepped into a dreamscape of sweetness, which just about topped off my weekend of adventure and fun. I even felt inspired to add a bit more blush and pink to my outfit, just to be in line with the surroundings! You know how I love my pink. I love pink, really love pink!

And then, back to Derbyshire, and that’s what we call the perfect balance between travelling to magical places like New York City, and the comfort of home.

And I've had so much fun writing this blog! Now I must go and write another chapter of my pink-tutu novel... oh, wait. Do I ever tell you? I'm writing a novel - about my pink-tutu travels! You know, all about the joy of a girl in a pink tutu travelling around the world! A bit crazy, maybe, but I am going to be one of the biggest names in contemporary literature - just you wait. I know I am going to make it big, but the pink-tutu lifestyle isn't easy, darling. I get up before sunrise, practise my dance moves every day, create costumes, find fabulous, pink outfits (sometimes in vintage shops!), and yes, write a novel, too! You could say, it takes dedication. And it is exhausting at times, too! It’s been so lovely writing to you this week - and let me tell you, your positive comments really inspire me. Oh, and my trusty pink tulle just whispered that she thinks you’re fabulous, too! Keep those positive vibes coming, my darlings, and be sure to check out next week’s blog post - there’s so much more pink-tutu magic to be revealed!

See you soon!
