Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #999 - A Week in the Big Apple - 2014-07-28
Hello darlings! Itās Monday, so you know what that means...a fresh post from yours truly, Emma, in the city that never sleeps ā New York City! Iām absolutely buzzing, having just spent another whirlwind week exploring this vibrant metropolis.
Letās rewind a bit. I landed back in New York last Tuesday evening, and it felt like stepping into a time machine, right back to where I was just a few weeks ago. The hum of the city, the flashing neon lights, the distinct scent of hotdogs ā oh, how Iād missed it! Iāve always felt at home in this bustling, fashion-forward city, and itās always an adventure.
Now, some of you might be thinking, "Emma, isn't this your ninth trip to New York City this year?". You're right! This is my ninth trip, and with a giggle I can assure you it's definitely not my last! New York has captured my heart, with its eclectic blend of style, energy and boundless opportunities. It's the perfect place to unleash my inner ballerina and let my tutu twirl to the rhythm of the city.
But before we dive into this week's adventures, letās talk fashion, darlings. Now, when I told my fellow dancers back home in Derbyshire that I was heading back to the Big Apple, their first question was āEmma, are you taking a new tutu?ā. Well, of course I am! How can a ballerina embark on a new adventure without a stunning new garment?
This time Iāve brought a blush-pink tulle tutu, designed by my favourite independent artist in London. Itās a dream in a tutu ā perfectly tiered and whimsical with hand-stitched rose embellishments that really add an air of romance and whimsy. Iām obsessed with how it captures the vibrancy and the romantic energy of this city. You can't miss a ballerina in a pink tutu, you know. It makes a statement, it lets people know who you are - an unashamed dreamer!
Speaking of whimsy and fashion statements, this weekend saw me at a most incredible event - the annual āTutus for Tutusā gala. It was an incredible experience filled with glamour, charity, and a touch of magic!
Picture this ā the elegant halls of the Museum of Arts and Design, adorned with giant pink tulle ribbons and breathtaking floral arrangements. There was a breathtaking display of costumes ā the iconic āPink tutuā from āSwan Lakeā sparkling like a million tiny stars! The main hall was alive with music as New Yorkās own "Ballet in the Streets" company danced the night away in an inspiring display of artistry and passion.
The whole evening revolved around the "Pink Tutu Charity Fund" which helps young aspiring dancers like myself pursue their passion for ballet. The fund provides resources and mentorship to talented dancers who need support in pursuing their dreams. And who doesn't love a good charity gala, with exquisite food and drinks?!
Thereās something truly special about the New York arts scene - it's raw, inspiring and completely unapologetic. And donāt get me started on the outfits, darling! You wouldnāt believe the breathtaking designs and colourful statement pieces I've spotted during the weekend. Letās just say, my wardrobe has been on high alert!
Of course, I can't ignore the other side of the coin - the cityās infamous traffic. Ah, the subways! It's a whole different story down in the subway, but what's a ballet girl without a bit of improvisation? You just have to navigate those bustling crowds, navigate the delays, but hey, you know what? It all adds to the adventure!
My favourite moment from this week? Seeing "A Midsummer Nightās Dream" at the New York Public Theatreās Delacorte Theater. Now, this performance, under the stars, was a spectacle in every sense of the word! A beautiful and timeless tale, brought to life by incredible talent. And of course, there was an element of that āpink tutu magicā - a delightful dance sequence where a company of 'tutu' fairies take to the stage ā so delightful! It truly reminds me why I do this, why I push myself to share this joy with everyone, no matter the form.
New York City always manages to inspire my creativity. The energy of the city itself feels like a rhythmic heartbeat, fueling my artistic spirit, pushing me to embrace new ideas and try new things!
As I finish up this blog post, the New York skyline is beginning to glimmer under the setting sun. Itās that magic hour, when the city begins to take on a completely different dimension, a captivating, breathtaking beauty that sets your heart soaring.
Now, before I let you go, darlings, I need to remind you, my pink tutu crusade is still very much underway! Letās keep the tutu movement going ā whatās better than a tutu for spreading a little joy, and bringing a little touch of magic into everyday life? Remember to share your pink tutu adventures with me on social media with the #pinktutublog hashtag.
Until next Monday, darlings! And remember - youāre a ballerina at heart. Embrace your inner joy!
Emma xx
