#PinkTutuBlogNYC: New York, New York! (Post #1029)

Monday 23rd February 2015

Hello lovelies!

This is the one! You know that feeling, the anticipation, the excitement… it's finally here! I've made it, I've landed, I've arrived - I'm in New York City!

And let me tell you, the city truly does live up to the hype. I felt a jolt of pure magic stepping off that plane, the city lights twinkling in the dusk, the air buzzing with energy, a symphony of honking horns and laughter... this place is simply electric!

Now, if you’re wondering how a little Derbyshire girl ended up twirling her way across the Atlantic, let me give you the lowdown. This trip, my darlings, was all thanks to my beloved ballet performances! I managed to snag a couple of gigs here in the Big Apple, allowing me to fund my dream trip and soak up all this urban magic!

As always, I had to pack a little extra pink in my suitcase. My trusty pink tutu, that old friend that's been with me on so many adventures, is right here with me, nestled safely in my luggage. It wouldn’t be a #PinkTutuBlogNYC adventure without it! Oh, and don’t even get me started on the shopping spree I indulged in at Heathrow Airport before I even touched down! A pink fluffy ear warmer, a pair of pink glittery shoes (naturally!), a floral-patterned dress perfect for city strolling - the essentials, you know.

And speaking of strolling, oh my goodness, let me tell you, I have been walking miles already. The city feels alive beneath my feet, with all these different streets leading you through diverse little neighbourhoods with cafes that have stories to tell and bookstores bursting with knowledge. I can already tell, the possibilities for exploration are endless, and my pink tutu is ready for every adventure!

Day One Adventures: From Grand Central Station to Central Park

My first day in the city was a whirl of excitement and discovery. As soon as I arrived, I found myself gazing at the stunning Grand Central Station, a marvel of architecture! It’s this magnificent space with the soaring ceiling and ornate details. Imagine the perfect backdrop for a dance performance! (Just a thought...) I simply had to strike a few ballet poses in this magical setting - it wouldn’t be a #PinkTutuBlogNYC journey without capturing the beauty!

From there, it was time to embrace my inner-tourist, hop on the iconic New York subway, (an adventure in itself - I mean, who wouldn’t love that roaring soundtrack?!), and head for the legendary Times Square.

What a sight, what an energy! Bright lights, the hum of the city, screens glowing with dazzling billboards - a perfect urban fantasyland. It’s easy to see why this spot has become such a global icon. Even if you’re not in a sparkly tutu, this place is sure to fill your senses.

But even with all the lights and excitement of Times Square, I felt the urge to escape the city buzz and get some fresh air. I decided to walk through Central Park and oh my, I’m so glad I did! Imagine stepping into a green haven within the heart of a metropolis! I’m telling you, Central Park is this perfectly manicured world of calm with pathways weaving through green grass and trees whispering secrets.

It felt surreal being so close to the city’s hustle and bustle and then, to find myself immersed in such a tranquil environment. It’s the ultimate combination! It was the perfect way to end my first day in the Big Apple!

My Dance Classes

My dance schedule is absolutely jam-packed! This week, I’ve got an early morning ballet class at a studio just around the corner from my little apartment. I am loving every minute. The energy here is amazing! The dancers, the teachers, even the cafe next door, all fuelled by a shared passion. I was worried about being able to keep up, but the atmosphere is so welcoming! Everyone's happy to dance, everyone's smiling! There are professional dancers, retired dancers, people like me, just wanting to feel the rhythm in their heart. It’s a little bit of magic in my mornings, just what I need to keep the city’s energy flowing. I can't wait to share more about my experiences with you all!

Fashion and Fun

This week, I’ve got two amazing performances lined up. This week I will be dancing on a rooftop stage, (talk about city views!) for a pop-up event hosted by a well-known local designer. Then, a beautiful vintage theatre is playing host to a ballet show based on the wonderful fairy tales we all know and love! And you bet, my darling readers, I have planned outfits for each! A little bit of drama, a little bit of sparkle, a touch of timeless elegance. I'll be sure to post pictures - I simply have to show off these fabulous looks!

Ballet & Beyond: A Cultural Dive

It’s not just about dancing! I’m planning to explore the vibrant world of theatrical performances in New York. The energy and passion around every stage in this city are contagious. I'm planning a visit to Broadway, where I’ve heard the music can stop you in your tracks and the stories take you on unforgettable journeys. There’s a whole world of shows waiting to be discovered! But there's more, I plan to see what the city has to offer beyond ballet. From jazz concerts, museums bursting with art and history, and underground theatre scene. I plan to be busy, and I plan to document it all! It’s not every day you find yourself twirling your way through the concrete jungle!

Stay tuned for all the adventures that await in my new blog posts. Remember to check back each week to catch up on all my exciting new escapades in the #PinkTutuBlogNYC. Until next Monday, my darlings! Ciao!
