Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1034 - A Week of Whirlwinds in the Big Apple 🍎✨
Monday 30th March 2015
Hello my darling readers! Can you believe it's Monday already? I swear, time just flies when you're twirling through New York City! This past week has been a whirlwind of fashion, performance, and, of course, pink tutus. Let me fill you in on all the lovely happenings!
A Blast from the Past at Lincoln Center
Wednesday night was pure magic! I had the absolute pleasure of attending a performance of "Swan Lake" at the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center. The music, the dancing, the costumes… it was pure ballet heaven! I confess, I teared up a bit during the second act, particularly when Odette, the white swan, danced so gracefully with her mournful eyes. It really got to me, that emotion, the storytelling, the vulnerability. It’s just one of the many reasons why I adore ballet so much.
Before the performance, I made sure to take some gorgeous pictures of myself in my vibrant pink tutu outside the theatre, with Lincoln Center’s stunning architecture as a backdrop. It was the perfect place to showcase this fabulously feathery creation from a vintage shop on Bleecker Street.
The shop itself is a treasure trove of gorgeous frocks and accessories - it's my absolute go-to for finding something special. I’m thinking of bringing in my trusty pink tutu for a little restyle with their expert help… maybe some sparkles? Or a delicate floral trim? My mind's racing with possibilities!
Shopping, Tea, and the Fashion Week Frenzy
Thursday, the city was buzzing with fashionistas. Fashion Week was in full swing, and the streets were practically a runway! It’s one of my favourite times to be in New York. I adore people watching in the city.
I, of course, made the most of the stylish vibes, taking a detour through the boutiques on Fifth Avenue. The latest collections were dazzling, showcasing bright colours, bold silhouettes, and luxurious fabrics - a veritable feast for the eyes!
To take a break from all the retail therapy, I found a charming tea room in the West Village. It was just what I needed after all that browsing, a chance to relax and indulge in a delightful afternoon tea.
There’s something truly romantic about sipping a steaming cup of Earl Grey in a cozy, book-filled tea room. The scent of tea, the clinking of teacups, the soft chatter of ladies in elegant hats… it's pure bliss! I felt like I was transported back to a vintage Jane Austen novel, and that feeling? It’s incredibly calming.
Broadway Bound and a Whirl Through the Metro
On Friday, I decided to see "Wicked" on Broadway. I've always loved the movie, and the musical just surpassed all expectations. It’s definitely not to be missed, the music is glorious! And of course, I added a pop of pink to my outfit, rocking my tutu alongside my new floral-patterned dress I picked up during my Fashion Week shopping spree. I swear, pink really pops against all those vibrant flowers!
Getting to the theater was a real New York adventure - I navigated the busy subway system, bustling with fellow theatergoers. It's a truly fascinating experience - there's such an amazing diversity of people from all walks of life coming together, all headed for the same destination, ready to be swept away by the magic of the theatre!
I find something undeniably charming about the chaos of the metro. There's this unspoken harmony within the whirlwind of commuters - it's the soundtrack of New York.
A Stroll Through Central Park
The weekend arrived with a promise of sunshine and I knew exactly where I needed to be. I spent Saturday morning taking a leisurely stroll through Central Park. The crisp autumn air, the golden leaves swirling in the breeze, the sound of laughter echoing through the trees… it was picture perfect.
The park always feels like a world apart, a serene oasis within the urban jungle. It's my favourite spot for a little me-time and to contemplate my next dance step - figuratively and literally.
That evening, I headed to a local jazz club, with my trusty pink tutu adding a splash of colour to the already vibrant atmosphere. It’s surprising how many opportunities there are to twirl in this city! It seems to be a part of my daily life now.
A Night of Dance and Inspiration at a Ballet Studio
Sunday was dedicated to the source of my passion - ballet! I made my way to a delightful studio on the Upper West Side, and the afternoon just melted away. I loved taking the beginner class, reconnecting with the fundamentals of ballet - the pliés, the tendus, the graceful elegance of each move. There's just nothing quite like it!
I met some wonderful fellow dancers who share a common love of the art form, which, in my mind, always strengthens my commitment to getting more people twirling. What is more inspiring than a room full of fellow pink-tutu dreamers?! That, my darlings, is a scene worth remembering.
I finished the evening at the ballet studio with a delightful cup of peppermint tea with some of the lovely dancers I met. You know me, I’m a total tea addict.
Back to Derbyshire for a Few Days - But NYC Is Calling!
My friends from Derbyshire will be here soon, to join me in New York, so I'm catching a plane to see them for a few days before they jet off to the Big Apple.
It feels slightly strange to leave this exciting city for even a minute but I am so excited to catch up with my friends from home and fill them in on all of my incredible experiences here in NYC. My adventures may take me back to England for a little while, but you know that my mind will be dancing with all the opportunities awaiting me here in the Big Apple. I’ll be back before you know it - I can’t wait to explore some more hidden treasures and fill you in on all of my adventures in my next post!
In the meantime, don’t forget, a little pink tutu can add a touch of magic to any occasion. So put on your twirling shoes, embrace your inner ballerina, and twirl your way through the week!
Keep twirling and dreaming, my darlings! 💖✨
