#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2015-07-06: New York City in Pink Tutu Paradise!
Hello lovely readers! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind week in the Big Apple! As you all know, New York City is my absolute favourite place in the whole wide world, and this week was particularly exciting! Let's dive inā¦
Post #1048 (Just in case you're keeping count!)
It was another scorching New York summer, the kind where even the pigeons are fanning themselves. Luckily, my trusty pink tutu was ready for action. After all, who wouldn't want a swirly, pretty pink tutu on a muggy July day? š
This week's #PinkTutuNYC adventure was all about the vibrant fusion of theatre, ballet, and the city itself. From Broadway to Ballet, the energy here is electrifying! My feet are still sore from all the walking (and twirling!) I did, but my heart is brimming with joy.
A Little Slice of Derbyshire in NYC:
As much as I love exploring New York, a little bit of Derbyshire always follows me wherever I go. This week, my flat was filled with the smell of my Nana's famous Bakewell Tart. (If you've never tried it, it's like a mini-birthday cake in every bite!). My Nanaās recipe book even travelled with me, and I managed to find some good quality ingredients to whip up a batch. A piece of home makes any trip even more special!
Broadway Brilliance:
Okay, so you know my weakness is a good ballet show, but I couldnāt resist seeing a Broadway musical! This time, I was mesmerized by āThe Book of Mormon.ā The jokes had me in stitches, and the talent was out of this world. Itās a fantastic, witty musical, and if youāre in the city, itās a definite must-see. Just be prepared to be quoting its hilarious lines for days afterward!
Fashion Frenzy:
Speaking of witty lines, "Youāre not my mother, you canāt tell me what to wear!ā screamed from the inside of me as I walked into a quirky little boutique in Greenwich Village. I donāt think thereās anything I love more than finding a hidden gem filled with vintage clothes and accessories. The shop was an absolute treasure trove - every piece unique and bursting with personality. And you canāt beat the prices, let me tell you! I came home with a fabulous beaded clutch bag that even the pigeons were envious of!
The Metās Majestic Ballet:
As if the Broadway show wasn't enough, I hit up the Metropolitan Opera House for a performance of the American Ballet Theatre. You canāt go to New York City without witnessing the grandeur of this legendary theatre! As a ballet lover, watching a company of such incredible talent was like a dream come true. Their artistry was breathtaking.
The choreography was masterful, the costumes stunning, and the entire performance left me spellbound. I just wish my phone's camera could capture the emotion and grace I saw onstage! But honestly, some things are just better experienced live.
Dancing in Central Park:
After a packed weekend, I decided to take things a little easier on Sunday and soak up the sun. Thereās nothing quite like the atmosphere in Central Park! You could hear the clink of ice in cups from street vendors, the excited chatter of children playing, and of course, the iconic music of the musicians busking in every corner. I even treated myself to a little spontaneous ballet lesson! Thatās the magic of Central Park, it truly provides an outdoor stage for everyone!
The Art of the Subway:
As always, I found my way around New York via the trusty metro. Itās amazing how efficiently it transports millions of people every day, and let's be honest, the view from a carriage speeding through the underground can be just as thrilling as any view from above ground. In fact, I find the whole metro experience strangely hypnotic and strangely fascinating. You never know what you'll encounter!
Tutu-ful Travels:
I must admit, sometimes it feels a little strange being a tutu-wearing ballerina in the bustling streets of New York City. The crowds seem to stop and stare, the little ones gasp in wonder, and even the old New York cabbies give me a double-take. But every time, without fail, someone gives me a smile, and sometimes even a heartfelt "You look fantastic!" Now, if thatās not enough encouragement to continue spreading the tutu love, I don't know what is!
From Derbyshire with Love:
Being a pink tutu ballerina isn't just about the tutu, it's about spreading joy, embracing your inner child, and never being afraid to express yourself. Whether I'm dancing on stage, shopping on Broadway, or twirling on the subway, I always try to keep in mind where I've come from - the little girl in Derbyshire who loved twirling and playing pretend, and most of all, dreaming big.
It's not just about the city, or the clothes, or the performances; it's about the people, the laughter, the energy that radiates from this place. And above all, it's about chasing dreams, embracing your individuality, and sharing a bit of magic with everyone around you.
So, let your inner tutu princess shine, embrace the fun, and be the best version of yourself! I hope this weekās adventure inspires you to chase your own dreams and twirl into a little pink happiness!
Until next Monday, New York City, stay sassy, stay chic, and keep on twirling!
