Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1072 – New York City, New York, 21st December 2015

Oh hello lovelies! 🩰💖

It’s Emma here, reporting live from the most magical city in the world - New York City! 🗽🍎 This week I’m all about embracing the festive spirit. Who doesn’t love a bit of Christmas cheer? I’m sporting my favourite red and green festive tutu and matching reindeer headband for this post, naturally! 🎄

It's amazing being back in this concrete jungle, even if it does feel a little bit like Christmas just isn't quite the same here, unlike back home in Derbyshire where the entire town centre transforms into a winter wonderland! I can't deny a little pang of homesickness every time I see a snowman! ❄️

But, NYC makes up for it with its sheer buzz! The streets are buzzing with Christmas carols, shoppers frantically searching for that last-minute gift and the smell of gingerbread in the air – oh, and let's not forget the festive light displays, every single one vying for the title of “most magical”. ✨

Speaking of magic, I managed to squeeze in a couple of absolutely fantastic performances this week! On Friday I went to see "A Christmas Carol" at the magnificent New York City Ballet, you know, the iconic venue with the dazzling chandeliers. I always make a point of catching a ballet during the holiday season. There’s nothing more beautiful and moving than seeing such elegance and grace on stage as the story of redemption and hope unfolds.

The next day, I hopped on the subway to Broadway for the incredible performance of the Nutcracker. It just wouldn't be Christmas without it, you know? From the moment I stepped into the theater I was completely captivated! I was mesmerized by the beautifully painted sets and the costumes - so exquisitely detailed, they looked like something from a fairytale. I'm still buzzing with excitement over those twirling snowflakes!

Oh, I can't forget about the shopping! I absolutely adore browsing the shops on Fifth Avenue! This week was particularly exciting because I stumbled across this adorable vintage tutu shop. It had everything from fluffy, powder-pink, tea-length tutus perfect for an afternoon at the park, to classic, white tutus that you could just picture ballerinas twirling in at the Bolshoi! Needless to say, I treated myself to a stunning blush pink tutu - a must-have for any tutu enthusiast, wouldn't you agree? You’ll all get a glimpse in my next blog post, because this little gem is going to feature in one of my upcoming photoshoots in Times Square.

Since you’re in the mood for Christmas magic, here’s a special treat for my fabulous readers. Here's a glimpse of my New York City Ballet adventures – let’s call it my “Christmas Ballet Diaries”. Think tutus, sparkles and Christmas cheer:

My NYC Christmas Ballet Diaries – Day One

Let's set the scene, darling! It's Friday evening in the heart of Manhattan, snow is softly falling and the twinkling Christmas lights lining Fifth Avenue create an ethereal glow, You can almost hear the melody of Christmas carols floating through the air!

To be honest, I wouldn't trade these frosty evenings for anything! I find there’s just something incredibly magical about walking through the city at this time of year. It feels like stepping into a holiday card, only much more vibrant and lively!

My mission this Friday night? A trip to the New York City Ballet to catch a special performance of “A Christmas Carol.” It’s the epitome of Christmas spirit - beautiful music, heart-warming performances, and just the right amount of twirling tutus, naturally!

To make this a truly fabulous evening, I decided to pull out all the stops. I slipped on my most magical tutu - a deep, ruby red tulle delight with a hint of gold embroidery for that extra festive touch. It sparkled beautifully as I sashayed through the subway, attracting a few curious glances. Nothing beats a twirl or two in a glittering tutu to make you feel like the princess of your very own Christmas story! 👸

Speaking of princesses, the ballet itself was magical! I loved the story's message of redemption. The ballet was so beautifully executed – a feast for the senses! Every time I go to a ballet, it reminds me of just how passionate I am about this art form. There’s something really special about being in a room filled with other ballet enthusiasts who all share that same love for graceful movement, elegant costuming, and captivating music.

My NYC Christmas Ballet Diaries – Day Two

My journey continued on Saturday as I took a quick subway ride over to Broadway to enjoy the iconic spectacle of “The Nutcracker” – this is another one of my favourite ballet productions, especially during the festive season! 🎄🩰

From the very first moments of the ballet, I was utterly enchanted! The scenery was completely immersive - it literally took me to a world of candy-striped trees and giant snowglobes. It felt like I'd stepped into my very own winter wonderland! I was lost in the twirling snow sprites and delicate snowflakes – they danced so elegantly, each movement like a perfectly-choreographed snowflake.

You see, darling, this ballet always manages to fill me with so much Christmas cheer, from the playful waltz of the Sugar Plum Fairy to the captivating charm of the Sugar Plum pas de deux.

Of course, no trip to the “Nutcracker” is complete without a beautiful tutu! So, for this occasion I chose a soft, pastel pink, tea-length tutu – just a hint of Christmas magic to blend seamlessly with my festive attire. 🩰✨

As I stood in the midst of excited families and eager children, all decked out in their festive finery, I found myself reflecting on the magic of dance, the power of story-telling, and the pure joy of the season! It’s these special moments that make NYC, in all its festive glory, simply magical.

And you know, when I see all those families enjoying the beauty of ballet, it only encourages me even more to inspire others to take the leap, to wear their very own tutu and let their inner ballerina shine! Perhaps this little dance fairy tale might just be a gentle push to step outside of your comfort zone, to add a splash of color, a bit of whimsy, and perhaps a little bit of magic to your own life. It might even convince some of you to ditch your sensible attire, embrace your inner princess, and become a tutu-wearing aficionado like me!

Well darlings, that's all from me this week! Until next Monday, stay tuned for a spectacularly fabulous photoshoot. Keep your eye out for those sparkly new tutus I mentioned earlier. As always, keep twirling! ✨

Happy dancing and a merry Christmas to all you fabulous Tutuistas! 💖🩰

Yours always,

Emma
