Pink Tutu Blog: NYC ā€“ Monday 13th June 2016

Good morning lovelies! It's Monday, which means a new post, and guess what?! I'm in New York City!

Dreams Really Do Come True

I've always wanted to visit New York. The bright lights, the energy, the sheer magnitude of it all, it just seemed so incredible! And now, thanks to some stellar performances at the Royal Opera House, here I am, exploring the Big Apple, tutu in tow of course.

A Pink Tutu for New York

When it comes to travel, I'm not exactly known for packing light! I knew I couldn't just waltz into the heart of Broadway in my regular tutu, so I've picked a brand new, bright, fuchsia pink creation, complete with a gorgeous floral embellishment. It's practically begging to be photographed in front of the Empire State Building!

Subway Style

I couldn't wait to get out there and explore, so this morning, armed with my pink tutu and a map, I plunged into the heart of the New York subway system. The tunnels and trains were a kaleidoscope of faces, all moving to the same rhythm.

Itā€™s the Destination, Not the Journey

Oh, the thrill of the journey! From Central Park to Times Square, it was a whirlwind of sights, sounds, and smells. But it was worth every single second, just for the feeling of being in the city that never sleeps.

Dancing into the City That Never Sleeps

Today, Iā€™m taking a masterclass at the American Ballet Theatre. How exciting! My excitement about this has actually turned into nerves! What if it's way too advanced for me? And my hair hasn't quite gotten used to the humidity here, but oh well, just going to embrace it. I'll let you know how it goes!

The Ballet That Will Take Your Breath Away

Later this evening, I'm finally off to see "Swan Lake" at the Metropolitan Opera House. This is one of my all-time favourite ballets, so Iā€™m expecting to be blown away. You know what they say - even after all this time, there's no place quite like New York, and nothing quite like the beauty of "Swan Lake."

Time to Shop ā€˜Til I Drop

But before that, I have some shopping to do. You see, I think the pink tutu is looking a little lonely in my suitcase. Perhaps I'll pick up a few new accessories - a gorgeous sequined clutch, a bold pair of heelsā€¦and maybe a sparkly crown for a little extra sparkle!

Sharing my Experiences

You know I canā€™t wait to tell you all about it! Stay tuned for my post tomorrow ā€“ I promise it will be filled with beautiful photos, outfit inspirations, and all the fun stories from my New York adventure!

A Derbyshire Girl in New York

Coming to New York was such a dream, and it truly feels like something out of a fairytale. For a Derbyshire girl like me, seeing the incredible skyscrapers, bustling crowds and vibrant energy of New York City was an amazing and slightly surreal experience. Even if I have had to keep stopping to pick up my jaw off the ground!

Life Through a Tutu Lens

But really, isn't it all about embracing those moments that take your breath away, those moments that remind us to believe in magic? Thatā€™s what I'm all about. My life is a ballet, a graceful pirouette of pink tutus, travel adventures, and finding the magic in everyday life.

Join the Pink Tutu Revolution!

I believe every woman can be a ballerina. That doesnā€™t mean you have to dance professionally or even in public! It just means finding that little something that makes your heart sing and living your life with joy, confidence, and grace.

So put on your pink tutu and join the revolution! Letā€™s dance our way to happiness.

See you tomorrow!

[Day Two]

Good morning darlings!

As you know, my Monday was spent discovering New York City. And oh my! This city certainly has the 'it' factor! My American Ballet Theatre class this morning was amazing! Everyone there was so welcoming, so friendly, and of course, there was so much talent in the room!

Masterclass Memories

Although my dance teacher was extremely tough! My legs are feeling a little like jelly right now, and my muscles definitely protesting. That said, what a fantastic experience. She said I had potential ā€“ imagine that! She had to say it to be nice, surely. But it certainly gave me the boost of confidence I needed!

More of those Magic Moments

After my class, I decided to try out one of the many yoga studios dotted around New York. The place was packed! And there was everyone you could imagine: Wall Street traders looking all super zen, yummy mummy's on their lunch breaks, even a group of grannies looking cool!

Letā€™s Dance in the Street

Speaking of which, as I left, I came across a street dancer. He was just an absolute joy to watch. There were all these amazing acrobatic moves ā€“ he even jumped into the crowd to give us some dance tips, we all took turns showing off our own steps and then he asked if I wanted to join in! And let me tell you, after an exhausting yoga session and a tiring ballet class, this street dancer made me want to grab my tutu and show off my moves in the middle of Times Square!

Oh, Those Gorgeous Outfits

You might be thinking what am I wearing in this big, tough, exciting city? It's actually been my lucky tutu so far. Yes, that big fuchsia one, with the floral embellishments and a few delicate pink feathers. I even added a fabulous hat with a pink flower that made me feel right at home amongst all those towering buildings!

Tutu and Tea

I donā€™t know about you guys, but I really need a spot of tea! So later, I'm going to try afternoon tea at one of New York's more traditional establishments - they do proper afternoon tea in NYC you know! This has to be one of my favourite ways to get that much needed English afternoon break, a place with cute, old-fashioned furnishings and of course, enough cakes and pastries to make me squeal!

Shopping and ā€œSwan Lakeā€

And finally tonight is the much-anticipated night ā€“ Swan Lake! This ballet is so captivating, so moving! I can hardly wait! I think I need some extra sequins for the occasion, but of course, those sequins have to be pink. Right?! That means a shopping trip in Fifth Avenue and another post about my favourite outfits ā€“ itā€™s basically my job at this point!

Donā€™t Miss My Next Post!

Iā€™m really loving my trip here in New York. Stay tuned for my next post to see all the new dresses and outfits I have bought to match my new tutu for New York.

See you soon, darlings!

[Day Three]

Happy Tuesday lovelies!

Have I told you how much I am loving New York yet?! My, what a wonderful experience! So as you know, last night I saw Swan Lake. Well, it was amazing! And as I expected, it was just absolutely captivating! The costumes, the story, the music, the sheer brilliance of the dancing...Iā€™m still swooning over it!

A Pink Tutu Dream Come True

The music at the ballet was magical, all these enchanting melodies ā€“ it made me want to twirl around the stage in my own sparkly pink tutu, but then I would have had to get on stage! (Not sure if they'd like thatā€¦) It had me longing to just pirouette around a brightly lit stage in the most beautiful costume!

Fabulous Shopping

But I guess I can fulfill my ballet dress fantasies by going shopping! So I took a trip to Fifth Avenue, a real haven for fashion! There are stores there I only dreamed of seeing. I bought myself the most delightful pink and silver dress ā€“ complete with sequined embellishment. Itā€™s going to look just divine under my tutu! Of course, it wouldn't be a New York shopping trip without stopping by one of the legendary department stores ā€“ a few more dresses to keep that tutu company in my suitcase. And all the lovely things you could dream of, a little clutch to hold those sequins for emergencies, a stylish new jacket and I found this gorgeous new pair of pink ballet shoes which were just divine ā€“ oh, and did I mention I found a crown, just perfect for that princess-like moment on my balcony here in New York! I'll try and post pictures of my shopping loot in the next couple of days!

Ballet Bootcamp

And today, Iā€™m off to explore Central Park and to join the classes again at the American Ballet Theatre. A whole day filled with ballets and classes! You might think this is all a bit much, and it is exhausting but such a blast.

A Day Out in Central Park

After classes, I want to see if I can find the place where they film all the scenes in the films - yes Iā€™m a massive fan of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and anything else where Audrey Hepburn appears, and well ā€œThe Notebookā€, what can I say I'm a sucker for a romantic story. Maybe a ā€œNew York Romanceā€ will happen whilst I'm here.

A Final Day of Discovery

The great thing about being in New York, and I really don't want to sound like some cheesy tourist brochure, but really, it is so easy to see how a simple walk through a park can feel magical here, especially if it's Central Park! Iā€™m going to enjoy a final day of exploration before returning home. It's going to be a bittersweet goodbye to this enchanting city!

A Heart Full of Glitter and a Wardrobe Full of Tutu Inspiration

And remember girls - it doesn't matter where you are, embrace your inner ballerina!

See you tomorrow, darling!

[Day Four]

Oh hello there! What an exciting, busy and whirlwind couple of days here in New York. What a glorious and exciting week I've had. As much as I enjoyed shopping on Fifth Avenue and my classes at the American Ballet Theatre, my true love has been New York's most famous park, Central Park.

Central Park is Magical

Where else could you see so much? Where else could you witness this diversity and joy within a single park?! There's something magical about walking along those paths, seeing those tall trees, and the little shops along the way, Itā€™s as if New York paused, just for a moment, to catch its breath and allow the energy to settle, even if itā€™s only for a couple of minutes. I found the fountain where the famous ā€˜Breakfast at Tiffanyā€™sā€™ scene was shot.

So much more to explore..

I also discovered that there's so much more to New York than I ever imagined. So many different restaurants, the Broadway theatre district with its dazzling shows, and all these little art galleries, museums, and vintage clothing stores, the more you look, the more you find.

A Tutu for Every Occasion

And of course, this fabulous city, all its sights and stories and energyā€¦ it's an inspiration. What better way to capture those moments than through fashion?! Today's been dedicated to finding the perfect tutu to wear at my performance tonight at the Met, at least, the performance at the ballet class this evening, My ballet teacher will just love it. There are, I think, too many tutus in my luggage. Itā€™s actually a bit ridiculous. I think the whole family back in Derbyshire must think I'm insane, sending those overflowing suitcases of tutus back to them. They may well think this entire New York trip is insane too!

Taking a Deep Breath Before I Leave

Before I leave for the ballet class tonight I'm going to visit the Chrysler Building, and try and squeeze in a Broadway show and take lots and lots of photos ā€“ New York is one of those cities where you can do so much and it is always different every time you visit.

See You Next Week!

That is all from New York. Tomorrow I leave and go back home to the good old U.K. It has been a truly magical journey and one Iā€™ll cherish forever!

Oh, before I go ā€“ donā€™t forget: Put on your pink tutu and live life with joy!
