Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post #1100: A Fourth of July Frolic in the Big Apple!

Monday 4th July 2016

Hello, my darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing blogger, reporting live from the Big Apple itself! Oh, the excitement, the sheer exhilaration of being back in New York City, that dazzling metropolis that never sleeps, never stops! The energy, the rhythm, the pulsating heartbeat of this city - it’s simply intoxicating.

And wouldn’t you know it, I just had to be here for the most patriotic holiday of all – Fourth of July!

It’s amazing how even a girl from Derbyshire, England, who has always cherished the calming sights and sounds of the rolling countryside, can fall in love with the frantic, exhilarating pulse of New York.

This city gets right under your skin, whispers its secrets into your ear, and sets your soul ablaze with possibility.

Of course, my first order of business was to get my outfit sorted. I just couldn’t wear a regular dress for such a celebratory occasion.

So I strutted down to my favourite pink wonderland, Bloomingdale’s, where I found the perfect tutu for the occasion – a glorious vision in deep ruby red. And let me tell you, this was no ordinary tutu, darlings! It was the stuff dreams are made of, complete with shimmering red sequins that practically demanded attention.

I paired it with a crisp white cotton blouse, adorned with dainty red cherries, and a little white beret for that chic Parisian flair. It was absolutely perfect!

Then, I couldn’t resist a pair of shimmering ruby red pumps that added a touch of extra sparkle to my already stellar look.

With my outfit complete, I took to the streets of New York, radiating joy and pure exuberance, and let me tell you, every head turned!

First up, a stop at Bryant Park. The atmosphere was incredible - families were picnicking on the grass, enjoying ice cream and popsicles. Kids were giggling and playing while their parents took advantage of the sun-drenched day and strolled through the gardens.

My eyes sparkled at the vibrant colours of all the balloons – bright reds, blues, and whites swirling through the air like joyous, free spirits. And I have to say, it made my heart soar!

But my true passion, my real love affair in New York City, lies within its vibrant arts scene. So, I ventured into the heart of the theatre district, my tutu bouncing with glee with every step.

You know how much I adore ballet and musical theatre – and I am so fortunate that I get to use the income from my ballet performances to fund these little getaways! After all, you know what they say – dance your way around the world!

I’d heard that ‘On The Town’ was a must-see. Now, anyone who knows me knows I’m a total sucker for a good Broadway show! I love the theatricality, the drama, the passion - it’s like stepping into a storybook, with the actors bringing every detail to life with such infectious energy.

The dancing was sensational - a whirlwind of twirls, leaps, and delicate pointe shoes gliding across the stage! And, my darling, I’m not talking about your typical classical ballet either! This show featured jazz, tap, and all sorts of dynamic and expressive movement that left my heart skipping a beat. It was a sensory feast, from the vibrant costumes to the rousing musical score.

My favourite scene involved the iconic ‘New York, New York’ musical number - the entire stage exploded with colour and life as the ensemble performed a dazzling routine in front of the towering backdrop of the New York skyline. It felt so electrifying and so, so New York!

You know, for a little while, I forgot I was from Derbyshire, far, far away. For those few precious moments, I felt like I could become one of the dazzling inhabitants of this thrilling metropolis, my pink tutu spinning alongside the dancers on stage.

Then, to end my perfect New York night on a sweet note, I strolled down to a little cupcake bakery just around the corner from the theatre. I grabbed a giant cupcake, the kind with a mountain of fluffy icing and a single pink cherry perched on top. Oh, the sweetness of it all!

Before heading back to my charming little hotel room, I popped by Central Park. The crowds were thinner now, but the air buzzed with a special kind of magic, the kind that only comes after a day full of excitement and discovery. I felt the cool evening breeze against my skin, the city lights beginning to twinkle like scattered diamonds across the horizon, and it felt so very, very right.

And that, my darlings, is what New York City does to you. It wraps you in its intoxicating embrace, lets you be whoever you want to be, and leaves you wanting more, more, more!

But as for me, my heart is full and my senses satiated, ready for my journey home and a delicious bowl of my Mum’s freshly baked Victoria sponge. Oh, I do love my England!

See you next Monday, with even more delightful tales from my tutu-clad adventures in New York.

Until then, stay stylish, stay happy, and don’t forget to wear pink!

Love always,

Emma
