Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where pink tutus and twirling adventures are the order of the day (and night)! It's Monday, 23rd January 2017, and I'm writing to you from the heart of New York City - a place where dreams truly do come true, and where pink tutus are definitely not out of place (trust me on that one!).
A Derbyshire Lass in the Big Apple
As many of you know, I'm a Derbyshire lass at heart, but my love for the magic of dance and the dazzling world of fashion has taken me all over the globe. And New York City, with its endless possibilities, has become one of my favourite places to explore.
This past week has been absolutely jam-packed with tutus, twirls, and everything sparkly! So grab a cuppa, settle in, and let me whisk you away on a journey through the dazzling delights of my New York adventure...
A Glittering Start to the Day: Broadway Bound!
My day began with a very special performance at the gorgeous New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. The air was electric with excitement as we entered the beautiful theatre. The plush seats were the perfect setting to be swept away by the graceful movements and captivating choreography of the dancers. Their poise, strength, and elegance simply took my breath away! I don't know about you, but a performance at the NYCB always puts a spring in my step, and a twinkle in my eye!
After the performance, I treated myself to a quick but oh-so-delicious lunch at a charming French bistro just off the bustling Broadway, indulging in a croque monsieur with a glass of bubbly. Now, who needs a theatre performance after a good croissant, right?!
A Day of Retail Therapy
A trip to New York wouldn't be complete without some serious retail therapy, would it? So, armed with my trusty tutu and a twinkle in my eye, I set off to explore the vibrant fashion scene of SoHo. Now, if you haven't discovered the magic of SoHo's independent boutiques, you're truly missing out. Each shop is a wonderland of colour and style, a haven for those who love to embrace their individuality!
This time around, my treasure hunt led me to a hidden gem, Alice + Olivia, where the stunning array of dresses and statement pieces was a sight to behold! It felt like a fairytale! They have these stunning sparkly tops I'm in love with, which I've promised myself I will treat myself to... in a pink shade, of course. 😉 My credit card might be crying a little, but I'll make sure to treat it to a luxurious evening out in return, to soothe the pain!
Evening Glamour and Street Art: The Magical Union Square
As the sun began its descent, casting a warm golden glow across the city, I ventured into the vibrant energy of Union Square. This is a haven for street artists, musicians, and those looking to soak up the unique charm of New York. The atmosphere was vibrant and infectious, with artists creating incredible street art that whispered stories in every brushstroke.
There's just something about this city that never sleeps! Everywhere you turn, there's something new and exciting to discover! And I'm loving every second of it!
My Pink Tutu Makes its Appearance... and the Subway Adventure Begins!
The highlight of my evening had to be a visit to the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's a cultural landmark that is always filled with surprises. And let's face it, a tutu is practically mandatory for any museum visit in this city! This time around, I even managed to sneak in a spontaneous photoshoot in front of the museum's famous Great Hall. Don't tell the curator, but my pink tutu felt very at home among the neoclassical grandeur.
Afterwards, I headed back downtown and hopped on the subway, ready to catch a Broadway performance (which one is a secret… you’ll have to follow me on my adventures!). The New York subway, like everything else here, has its own charm and quirks! The chaotic rhythm of the underground was almost a dance of its own. I found myself charmed by the quirky commuters, their stories echoing through the subway cars. Of course, my tutu added a touch of extra flair!
A New York Farewell, Until Next Time!
As my time in the city came to an end, I felt a pang of sadness but also an overwhelming sense of contentment. New York City had captured my heart once again, with its endless energy, its vibrant spirit, and its ability to make even the most ordinary day feel extraordinary.
And remember my gorgeous ballet bunnies, every adventure needs a soundtrack! This week, my soundtrack is none other than the "Waltz of the Flowers" by Tchaikovsky. A timeless piece that perfectly encapsulates the grace and beauty that surrounds me in New York.
As I make my way back to England, I know I'll be reminiscing about this amazing city for a long time. But my New York adventure will always live on in my blog and in the memories that are tucked away in my heart!
