Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, back from the magical city of New York! My week in the Big Apple was just divine – a whirlwind of tutu-twirling, fabulous shows, and, of course, shopping, shopping, shopping!
Landing in New York, Pink Tutu and All!
I landed at JFK airport, ready for a big week in New York. It was so exciting – you can’t believe the thrill of walking into a brand new city, especially when you're wearing your signature pink tutu! It definitely makes you stand out – even among the bustling crowds at the airport. As I waltzed through the arrivals hall, I caught so many smiles. New York is a city that seems to welcome bright colours and fun – the perfect place for a tutu-loving ballerina!
Living in the Heart of the City
I snagged a delightful little flat in the Upper West Side. My apartment wasn't massive, but it was perfect! A cute little nook, perfect for planning my outfits for the week. There's nothing I love more than dressing up before venturing out into the city – each outfit was carefully planned to reflect my mood, and of course, showcase the amazing, pink-hued ballet wear that makes me who I am.
A Metro-Riding Ballerina!
Being a seasoned Londoner, I absolutely love travelling on the Metro. And New York’s Subway is an amazing adventure, even if you don't quite get the 'art' of hopping off just as the doors shut. A lot of sideways walking for this ballerina! I've never really liked taxis – they always seem to smell of the street. But the subway is amazing! It takes you right to the heart of everything and is an experience in itself, filled with vibrant, colourful people, just as lively as a backstage rehearsal room! I'm absolutely besotted by the Metro – and the incredible journey to see some of New York's best shows.
My Ballet Adventures in New York
Of course, one of the main reasons I came to New York was to see a ballet performance! New York City Ballet has a truly special reputation. This week, I went to the legendary David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, home to the New York City Ballet. Let's just say the ballet performance absolutely blew me away!
There were graceful leaps and pirouettes galore! Watching all those amazing ballerinas twirl effortlessly across the stage... I almost found myself joining them myself, with my heart yearning to be dancing among them. Their outfits were divine! Some very impressive tutus – a mixture of both classic, graceful styles, and innovative modern interpretations. Some gorgeous bold, modern ones – one, I saw, featured the most incredible intricate pink design, I simply couldn’t tear my eyes away!
The Shopping Heaven of NYC!
Every time I travel to a new city, my tutu gets more than its fair share of use. This time was no different – in New York, my outfit plans were constantly being adjusted and added to with new, fabulous purchases!
For this week’s adventures, I ventured into the magical world of the Empire State Building – with the most impressive view ever, which definitely called for a special tutu! I treated myself to the prettiest pink tutu – this one featured stunning, sparkly stars around the bottom, making me feel like I was in a whimsical fairytale. And what a place for photos – let's just say there are a lot of pictures of a tutu-clad ballerina gazing out over the incredible city that is New York.
Of course, I explored the famous Fifth Avenue – an avenue made for twirling! I felt like I was stepping onto the pages of a fashion magazine, where you have to just expect the unexpected! My main mission was to find a sparkly new outfit, in the gorgeous pastel pink that was very on-trend in New York this Spring – and let me tell you, this city is definitely the place for dazzling outfits and eye-catching ensembles.
A Magical Encounter
There I was, on Fifth Avenue, when my heart practically leapt out of my chest, in excitement – because it’s something that would only ever happen in the fabulous world of New York. I bumped into a stunningly dressed woman on Fifth Avenue. We’ve all got those days, haven’t we, when you’ve been out, and suddenly find your energy dropping. She was wearing a soft pink maxi skirt, which I immediately wanted to get a look at! It was so beautifully soft – a real dream. So of course, I asked where she had got it.
And so, there I was, deep in conversation about clothes, and all the shops on the avenue with a lovely stranger. We laughed and joked – it felt like we were already old friends. The lovely woman said to me – "I must tell you, you look absolutely fantastic – that tutu looks divine on you!" And then – the real icing on the cake – she reached into her bag, pulled out a soft pink fabric flower and said "Here, my darling, this would look stunning on you, go on, add it to your hair." I couldn’t have been more delighted! That small gesture brought my New York shopping adventure to a really lovely close – it just shows you can meet the nicest people when you are out in your pink tutu – just trust me, it always helps with getting great tips on where to go shopping!
Pink Tutu and the Stage!
This is a blog for dancers, and New York has so many great dance performances. Of course, it wasn't just ballet I was taking in! This week, I also went to see 'Moulin Rouge!', at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre – a fabulously sparkly, colorful show. Just imagine, the Moulin Rouge in London! It definitely captured the vibrancy of Paris and was so very impressive, not just in the music but also the amazing choreography, right there on the big, stagey Broadway setting! I just had to go and buy myself some Moulin Rouge, glitter makeup the next day!
I found an adorable little shop that made its own beautiful cosmetics and had just launched a 'Moulin Rouge' collection - perfect!
Time for Tutu-Time and Saying Farewell
So that, my lovely friends, is all I’ve got for this week! A big, big thank you for taking the time to catch up with my pink tutu adventure. New York definitely took me out of my comfort zone – it made me see the world, in all its colorful glory, and try a little bit of everything! And I hope to return – there’s still so much more to discover in this magical city! I know it will only be a few more weeks until I’ll be able to return to this enchanting metropolis – with my latest new pink tutu purchase!
For now, remember, if you feel like letting your hair down and letting your heart twirl, embrace your inner ballerina and wear a pink tutu. My blog is always here to celebrate the beauty of tutus and everything pink – so keep twirling and don't be afraid to wear pink.
See you next week, my darlings! 🩰

PS What was my favourite find? I found an absolutely incredible little boutique called “Tututopia”! This store is crammed with some amazing vintage, hand-knitted tutus – each one so individual, with exquisite pink, white, blue, and yellow designs, all lovingly displayed on a large carousel, in the middle of the store. I bought myself the most delightful pink and white tutu which, of course, was covered in twinkling gold sequins – I couldn't leave without it. They definitely know how to treat a ballerina!
