Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 2017-05-29 - She Danced in New York City

Good morning, darlings! It's Monday morning here in New York City, and I'm just settling into my chic little hotel room after a whirlwind weekend that was filled with more pink tulle than a tutu factory! This week's blog post is all about my incredible weekend adventures, including a stunning ballet performance that had me absolutely spellbound, a spot of shopping that left my wardrobe a little fuller, and a Broadway show that truly brought the magic to life.

Welcome to the Big Apple - And a Pink Tutu!

The journey over from Derbyshire, England, was surprisingly smooth. As always, I travelled via the trusty, comfy metro (the tube, to us Brits!), which feels like a cosy cocoon of pink and white. There's something wonderfully reassuring about that deep rumbling sound, like a lullaby, as you're whisked away towards your next adventure.

Of course, I couldn't possibly arrive in New York without my trusty pink tutu. The big city has a distinct energy all of its own, buzzing and bright, a sort of a joyful chaos, and it simply demands a statement of feminine grace and flair - a splash of vibrant colour. The tutu definitely does that! You'd be surprised how often strangers stop me on the street to chat about it. Turns out, a pink tutu sparks joy. Just the other day, a woman stopped me to tell me it made her smile, just seeing me twirl on the platform. I’d be happy to give everyone a pink tutu to wear and just imagine the sheer loveliness!

First Stop - Ballet at the New York City Ballet

I made my way straight to the theatre for my very first experience of the New York City Ballet. The majestic Lincoln Center is a glorious temple of the arts, and as I stepped into the hallowed halls, I felt a familiar, tingling excitement course through me, a wave of anticipation. The moment the lights dimmed and the music began to swell, the sheer magic of ballet washed over me. The dancers moved with such precision, such grace, such effortless artistry, it was breathtaking. The performance was a truly magnificent tapestry of human movement, telling stories of passion, joy, and heartbreak, all set to a heart-stopping score. It left me mesmerized, with goosebumps that lingered long after the curtain call.

Tutu and Shopping - The Perfect Combination

I couldn't have ended the weekend without a good old-fashioned shopping spree. I ventured to one of the city’s most iconic stores, the infamous Saks Fifth Avenue. Now, I confess, the store is rather overwhelming, with a dizzying array of exquisite designs. You could get easily lost, surrounded by so much style and beauty, it is a truly sensory experience! Luckily, I've always been quite confident about what suits me, so I took a deep breath and embarked on my mission: to find the perfect outfit for a big, glamorous night out.

My strategy was simple. First, I had to find a perfect statement piece - something that truly felt "me," something as vibrant and joyous as the New York City Ballet itself. The answer? A gorgeous emerald-green dress, draped with beautiful metallic detailing. It’s quite long and flowy, like a ballet skirt, perfect for swirling and twirling, as if on a grand stage, and I couldn't resist a splash of shimmering pink lipstick. For my feet? Of course, a pair of shoes in a stunning shade of pale pink. With my perfect statement pieces selected, it was just a matter of pulling everything together. A delicate gold necklace with an intricate rose motif and a cute, tiny black hat completed the look. I knew the dress would feel magical, so my other choices were just gentle touches of chic and glamour to keep it classic.

Broadway Magic - And a Twinkle in my Eye

After all that shopping, I was absolutely ready to catch a Broadway show, something with a little bit of sparkle and glitter. My pick for the evening was the acclaimed musical "The Book of Mormon," known for its edgy humour and clever lyrics. It was the perfect way to round out my weekend - a kaleidoscope of singing, dancing, and laugh-out-loud moments, leaving me completely entertained, and more than a little inspired. I couldn't help but admire the sheer energy and dedication of the actors on stage, bringing the characters to life with such charisma and flair. I found myself clapping along to the rhythm, my heart pounding with each beat of the music, and a playful grin on my face, feeling like a true, genuine New York City enthusiast.

My Big Pink Dream: Spreading the Tutu Joy

You know what’s funny? Here in New York, everyone is so focused on getting things done, so much hustle and bustle - there’s a lovely energy to it, that is true, but maybe it also takes a bit of lightness. I often think about my journey, about my desire to share a bit of joy, a dash of whimsy and feminine grace through the power of a pink tutu. And what better place to spread that message than in the heart of this city that never sleeps? I believe that there is magic to be found in a simple twirl. That a pink tutu, like a brightly coloured feather, can catch the light and bring a bit of brightness to a busy, fast-paced world. My biggest wish? To see a sea of pink tutus swishing across the city, filling each and every corner with a touch of vibrant happiness.

And with that, darlings, I'm going to end this week’s post! New York City has certainly lived up to its reputation for electrifying excitement, a true spectacle, and I’m feeling ready to face another week, another whirlwind, of all things pink! If you’d like to get involved and make the world a more colourful, more whimsical place, you can tag me in your tutu pics - it will be my pleasure to share your fabulousity.

Don’t forget, keep those twirls tight and keep those tutus bright. See you next Monday, darling!
