Pink Tutu Blog: NYC - Post #1149 - Monday, 12th June 2017 - Dance Under the Big Apple! 🩰🗽✨

Hello, my darlings! Welcome back to the Pink Tutu Blog, coming to you live from the concrete jungle itself - New York City! It's Monday, the start of a new week, and that means it's time for your dose of pink tulle and all things beautiful! 💖

This week, I'm thrilled to share with you all the delightful adventures I've had in the Big Apple, swirling through the streets in my favourite pink tutu and soaking up the magic of this amazing city.

You see, darlings, there's just something about New York City that makes me feel like a ballerina, twirling on stage under the spotlight. The energy, the pace, the incredible architecture... it all feels so vibrant and full of life, much like a ballet performance!

This week, I've been hopping around town, indulging in all the fabulous things that New York has to offer, from watching breath-taking ballet performances to browsing through the city's countless fashion boutiques.

Monday Madness: The Metro

Let's rewind the tape to the start of the week. My journey began at the bustling station in Derby, where I said goodbye to my family, my fluffy white bunny, Percy, and all things Derbyshire, as I embarked on my journey to the City that Never Sleeps.

Stepping onto the London Underground felt like stepping back in time, with its charming old carriages and bustling crowds. I was surrounded by a kaleidoscope of faces and styles, making me feel like I was part of a real-life painting!

Reaching my connection at Euston, I slipped into the Tube again, heading towards the gateway to the world - Heathrow Airport. My heart beat a little faster with excitement as I felt the anticipation for my adventure rise inside me.

Once I arrived at JFK airport, the sense of wonder only grew! It felt like I'd stepped into a different world! The air buzzed with activity and the vibrant city lights were a sight to behold! I couldn't wait to dive right in and experience all that New York City had to offer!

First on my agenda was the iconic New York subway. My pink tutu seemed to brighten up the normally gloomy, concrete-lined platforms.

One thing that fascinated me was the incredible diversity of people who travel on the subway. Every single person seemed to be a story in themselves! The hustle and bustle was something else, and you could feel the palpable energy surging through the tunnels. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly overwhelmed at times! But as a true ballerina, I glided with grace through the crowds, my tutu trailing behind me like a pink cloud! 🩰

I found the best way to navigate the subway system was to look at the lines as if they were a stage - with each station as a different scene. This made the experience far less confusing and gave me a sense of excitement and anticipation as I made my way through the city.

Tuesday Treat: Broadway Magic

Tuesday was a whirlwind of activity! The day began with a luxurious ballet class in Midtown, taught by a legendary Russian ballerina. My pink tutu seemed to twirl with an extra dose of joy as I pirouetted in the studio, learning the delicate movements of the elegant classical dance form. It's amazing how ballet can transport you to a whole different world, and in New York, it felt as if the dance was just as captivating as the city itself!

The highlight of the day, however, was the opportunity to witness the breathtaking "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway. The stage design, the costumes, the music… it was simply a feast for the senses. The show transported me to the haunting world of Parisian Opera House, full of intrigue, passion, and the magical touch of the Phantom's mysterious melodies. I was particularly moved by Christine Daaé’s beautiful, soaring vocals, and her emotional connection with the phantom, a character as compelling as he is heartbreaking. I was in awe of the performance and, if I’m being honest, there were tears in my eyes during certain moments.

The whole experience was exhilarating, a testament to the transformative power of the stage. Watching the show, it dawned on me that Broadway isn't just a place; it's a melting pot of cultures, talents, and dreams, a showcase for the magic of storytelling and a vibrant part of New York's cultural identity.

Wednesday Wonderland: Fashion Fiesta

Of course, a trip to New York wouldn't be complete without some serious shopping! So on Wednesday, I set off for a fashion adventure through the heart of Manhattan! 🛍️

Walking into the vibrant Fifth Avenue, my eyes popped out of my head in delight. There were countless high-end designer stores showcasing their most coveted collections. The atmosphere felt as exhilarating as a performance!

My first stop was, naturally, the infamous Saks Fifth Avenue! The dazzling shop windows displayed rows of gowns fit for a princess! With my favourite shade of pink glistening everywhere, my inner ballerina screamed for joy! I ended up choosing a dazzling, flowy pink dress perfect for a romantic evening out – something every girl should have in their wardrobe, right?

I also fell in love with a quirky vintage boutique called “The Dressmaker's Daughter” that I stumbled across down a small side street in Chelsea. I was transported back in time, with vintage dresses hanging on racks and stunning pieces of jewellery showcased in glass cases. I left with a collection of stunning floral headbands, a pearl necklace and an absolutely incredible feather boa for my collection – the perfect finishing touches to any performance, I think!

Thursday Time: A Bite of the Big Apple

To make my time in New York City complete, I treated myself to a classic NYC culinary experience – a visit to a local food truck in Times Square. It seemed fitting to experience New York's energy with a street food experience! There was something about standing in the middle of this busy and lively intersection, holding a steaming hot pretzel with a huge, pink sparkly drink. This really felt like the heart of New York. The sights and sounds of the city created a truly authentic atmosphere, making me feel like a part of this diverse and ever-changing cityscape!

I loved the energy of Times Square, a perfect snapshot of this bustling city! The towering billboards flashed and dazzled, and the crowds pulsed with a contagious energy. It felt like every corner was bursting with new sights, new sounds, and a plethora of things to see and do. This definitely gave me inspiration for my next Pink Tutu blog post!

Friday Flight: Ballet Dreams

No trip to New York City is complete without indulging in its world-renowned ballet performances. On Friday, I treated myself to an evening at the New York City Ballet. The lights went down, the music swelled, and I was swept away by the stunning grace of the dancers on stage!

The performance I attended was of "Swan Lake," a ballet masterpiece! It was the ultimate expression of ballet artistry, full of elegance, grace, and emotional depth. Watching the beautiful ballerinas and their beautiful, captivating movements made me reflect on the elegance of ballet as a form of storytelling – it tells tales without using a single word, but with expressive movements and heartfelt storytelling through the medium of movement. Each graceful pose felt like an expression of a hidden story – each twirl, a chapter in a secret fairytale, and the intricate steps, a beautifully woven tapestry of emotions. It truly made my heart sing!

Watching those dancers, I couldn't help but feel inspired by their talent, precision and commitment to their craft. This really is what I strive for every time I step into my ballet shoes – that dedication and commitment.

Saturday Splendour: Brooklyn Bounce

No trip to NYC is complete without experiencing the city’s thriving arts scene, so on Saturday, I took the metro over the iconic Brooklyn Bridge to immerse myself in the artistic atmosphere of Brooklyn! 🎨

I headed for Williamsburg, where the streets were filled with vibrant murals, independent galleries, and funky vintage stores. Brooklyn definitely offered a unique energy – a sense of community and creativity.

And of course, the highlight of the trip was a wonderful outdoor performance of ballet in an open-air park! Watching these young and talented dancers performing under the clear blue sky gave me such a feeling of peace, as if the dancers had somehow transferred that peaceful energy to the entire audience!

Sunday Serenity: A Walk in Central Park

Sunday brought a moment of peace and tranquillity. I took a stroll through Central Park, soaking up the city's beauty from a different perspective. This sprawling green oasis in the middle of Manhattan provided a much-needed breath of fresh air after a week of bustling city life. The vibrant green foliage, the peaceful ponds, and the vibrant street performers – everything felt like a fairytale. It felt amazing to let the city fade into the background and feel like a ballerina dancing on a stage.

It felt fitting to spend my last afternoon in this beautiful park, a place full of history and romance, where every path is an adventure and every tree holds a story! It gave me an extra dose of that iconic "New York charm" that’s synonymous with the city!

Coming Back for More!

It is a city that captures your heart in an instant – it's an experience for all senses, offering a delightful blend of glamour, chaos, culture and artistic energy.

As I bid farewell to this vibrant metropolis, I find myself filled with a mix of excitement and bittersweetness. New York City, you will be missed dearly, but I have a feeling this won’t be the last you see of this ballerina in her pink tutu!

But for now, it's back to the countryside – back to my fluffy white bunny, Percy, my beloved tutu collection, and all things Derbyshire!
