#PinkTutuBlogNYC: New York City, Where Dreams Twirl! (Post 1151)

Hello my lovely Tutu-tastic friends! It’s Monday morning, and as you know, that means it’s time for another installment of #PinkTutuBlogNYC! The sun is shining (well, not quite, it’s New York, after all!), but the air is full of that electric buzz only the Big Apple can provide. I’ve been hopping about the city all weekend, taking in all the wonderful things New York has to offer, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Grab your favourite pink tutu (don't forget, a pink tutu a day keeps the bad times away!), pour yourself a cup of something delicious, and settle in for a fabulous read!

A Derbyshire Girl in the City that Never Sleeps

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, haven't I? You see, dear readers, I’ve been doing what I do best - dancing my little socks off, making beautiful music with my feet, and, of course, indulging my passion for all things sparkly, chic, and fashion-forward! I just got back from a rather thrilling whirlwind tour around the UK. I performed in Derby (home sweet home!), Manchester, and Leeds. Such beautiful venues, such wonderful audiences - truly, they were filled with the most fabulous people, ready to support the arts and be swept away by a story told in motion.

The sheer joy of performing is just exhilarating, but you know me, I always manage to squeeze in some time for shopping. My Derby stop was especially fun - a treasure trove of vintage boutiques awaits just around the corner from the theatre, each one crammed full of quirky treasures, waiting to be brought home and given a new life. I scooped up a couple of dazzling vintage gowns - perfect for a posh cocktail party or a chic performance night! My collection is forever growing and, trust me, there's always space for more glittery additions!

Back to the Big Apple

But enough about my travels. You are all here for a peek into my life in this magnificent city, so let’s get to it, shall we? New York is, of course, the ultimate playground for any ballerina. The streets are buzzing with dancers and dreamers, artists and performers of all kinds. You can see the pulse of the city in the vibrant rhythm of the subway, hear the music of life in the clatter of a thousand conversations, and feel the sheer creative energy crackling through the air. It’s a place where even the cobblestone streets seem to want to sway to a lively waltz.

A Pink Tutu Wonderland!

This weekend was packed full of delights. On Saturday, I discovered a little boutique tucked away in SoHo that absolutely stole my heart. They called it 'Pink Palace,' and trust me, it lived up to its name! Rows upon rows of fluffy tutus in every shade of pink imaginable, with glittery tiaras and satin ballet flats in matching hues. I indulged myself in a magnificent fuchsia tutu, perfect for twirling in Central Park on a sunny afternoon. I may or may not have purchased a few other frilly delights, but who's judging, right? A pink tutu a day keeps the blues away, darling!

Afterward, I had a divine tea party at the legendary ‘Lady Mendl’s Tea Salon’ in the heart of Greenwich Village. The salon is incredibly charming and romantic - like a time machine straight back to the Belle Epoque! The delicate sandwiches and the divine tea (not to mention the incredibly dainty scones!) made me feel like a princess in a fairytale.

On Sunday, I finally got to go to a ballet class at 'The Dance Conservatory' in the Lower East Side. It’s a hidden gem with teachers from around the world and a beautiful, intimate studio that reminded me of those small dance studios tucked away in charming Derbyshire villages. The class was intense and demanding (I am always trying to up my game!) but it was an absolute blast.

*The Enchanting 'Cinderella' *

Of course, I made time to indulge in some theatrical magic. On Saturday evening, I had the honour of seeing a stunning production of 'Cinderella' at the Metropolitan Opera House. The costumes were absolutely spectacular, and the stage design was a true work of art. It made my heart throb, it was so moving!

You see, there's something special about the theatre - the way the lights go down, the silence descends, and the world just melts away as you're swept into the story. And then, when the last note is played, you emerge from the theatre feeling lifted, inspired, and ready to take on the world.

Emma’s Travel Tips:

  1. Plan ahead: The metro in NYC can get busy, especially during peak hours. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and allow for some unexpected delays.

  2. Wear comfy shoes: You'll be doing a lot of walking in this city! Make sure to wear shoes that are both stylish and comfortable, because your feet will thank you for it. (And remember, those beautiful ballet flats you purchased are not exactly for dancing in on cobblestone streets!)

  3. Be prepared for the weather: New York is known for its unpredictable weather. Carry an umbrella and be ready for anything, whether it's a blustery day or a scorching hot summer afternoon. (Maybe even wear a jacket on the metro; you never know!)

  4. Embrace the unexpected: The beauty of New York is that there’s always something new to discover, even in the familiar places. Stay open to new experiences, and let the city surprise you.

  5. *Bring your pink tutu!: * A touch of pink always makes a city look better! (That's my personal motto!.)
