#PinkTutuBlogNYC: A Twirling Tale from The Big Apple! (Post #1153)

Monday 10th July 2017

Hello lovelies! I'm Emma, and I'm writing to you from the vibrant streets of New York City, and oh, it's been an absolute whirl! I mean, that's the only way I can describe it. Honestly, I haven't stopped twirling since I touched down in this magnificent metropolis!

Now, some of you know I've been making my way around the world on a mission - yes, it's a mission, a pink mission to encourage everyone to put on a pink tutu and experience life with a sprinkle of twirling magic. And where better to spread this message than in New York City, the city that never sleeps!

This week, I've been soaking up the energy of this iconic city, dancing through its legendary streets, and let me tell you, I’m in tutu heaven! From the buzzing Grand Central Station to the theatrical energy of Broadway, New York is truly the city that has it all - including a plethora of beautiful dance performances.

Tutus and the Subway

As you all know, one of my favourite ways to explore a new city is via the underground railway network. That's right, I absolutely love the metro, it's just a huge adventure! So, last week, after an incredibly elegant, yet affordable (for once!), morning of clothes shopping (more on that later!), I boarded the L line and was quickly captivated by the kaleidoscope of humanity passing by. Now, some of you might have raised an eyebrow at a young lady in a pink tutu making her way through the metro - but let's be honest, I get a little excited sometimes, right?! It's all part of spreading the #PinkTutu message, you know?!

That said, if you find yourself travelling by metro in the future, why not channel your inner prima ballerina and step onto the carriage with a touch of flair? Let your pink tutu be your beacon of joy and watch as people smile back! It might just brighten up their commute and perhaps even inspire them to buy a pink tutu!

Broadway Bling

Speaking of flair, have you ever seen a Broadway show? If not, get your dancing shoes on, hop onto that subway train, and head straight to Times Square, New York’s fabulous entertainment district. Trust me, it’s a must for anyone visiting this wonderful city.

I managed to snag tickets for “The Lion King.” It was utterly magnificent! And as the curtain went up, a chorus of 'ooooohs' and 'ahhhhs' swept through the entire audience. I honestly don’t think you can come to New York City and not experience the thrill and the pure genius of a Broadway show. Just try not to clap along - even if you want to, there’s a certain protocol, you see! Don't worry, I learned quickly and have since been doing my ballet research. You really want to come prepared and get it right!

New York's Fashion Paradise

Of course, being a big fan of fashionable attire, no trip to the Big Apple would be complete without exploring the fabulous fashion scene in Manhattan. My shopping escapades usually centre around Soho, but I do tend to find myself getting hopelessly lost - but in a good way, of course! There are endless shops and boutiques around here. You've got everything from quirky vintage shops that you could easily spend a day or two getting lost in, to stylish boutiques where you can get your glam on with gorgeous new ensembles!

My biggest tip - plan ahead, pack light and, as much as I adore pink tutus, take your ballet shoes! I always find myself indulging in the luxury of ballet classes wherever I travel, and luckily New York is overflowing with them! I was lucky enough to catch a wonderful dance performance at the magnificent Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in West 55th Street last week! The dancing, choreography, costumes, the lighting, it was incredible, truly moving. You have to check it out!

Ballet Class in The City

And speaking of dance, I've been loving all the dance studios across the city - they've been such an inspiring and supportive place to let my inner ballerina loose! So many of you have been reaching out to me saying that you are inspired to try a class, and I must say, you should absolutely go for it! If I can manage to fit ballet class into my hectic schedule when travelling, then I know you can too.

The Pink Tutu Challenge

So here's the challenge for this week. Grab a pink tutu, pop on your most fabulous ballerina shoes, grab a delicious coffee, maybe grab a croissant and wander around Central Park - or whichever city you’re currently in, of course. Spread the pink tutu joy! Tell the world what pink tutus stand for - confidence, fun, a positive attitude, and maybe even the pursuit of dancing on tables. It's ok to embrace your inner child! You can thank me later, but honestly, don't - I’m just thrilled to help you unleash your inner dancer.

Looking Back - Derbyshire

You know I like to keep this #PinkTutuBlogNYC up to date, and my trips have already inspired me to make a quick return to my beloved Derbyshire. So in preparation for my imminent trip home, I have been catching up with friends and colleagues who haven't yet had a chance to get their hands on a pink tutu (gasp! Some people really are not familiar with their powers!). Oh well! They have so much to learn from the #PinkTutuNation, don’t they? It’s amazing what a little pink tutu can do to help everyone to find their inner joy.

As my time in the City That Never Sleeps comes to a close, I’ll miss it so very much. It's been amazing and there are so many amazing memories to be made. You never know where your journeys might take you and all the amazing experiences you might stumble across.

And don't forget to keep checking back to www.pink-tutu.com. You've got to know where I’m heading next, I mean, the world is literally my stage - my pink tutu stage!

Until next time - happy twirling!

Lots of love,

Emma
