Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Edition - #1158 - Monday 14th August, 2017

Good morning my darlings! ☀️

It’s a glorious Monday in New York City and I'm practically bouncing with excitement! It’s been an absolute whirlwind of a week – from twirling on Broadway to uncovering hidden treasures in the city’s fashion district, I've truly had it all. And you know me, I’m going to share it all with you! 😉

So pour yourself a cuppa, slip into something fabulous (a pink tutu, of course!), and let's dive into this week's New York City adventure.

From Derbyshire to the Big Apple

First, let's address the pink elephant in the room – how I manage to afford all this travelling? Well, darling, it's all thanks to the magic of ballet! I may have left Derbyshire behind, but I haven’t abandoned my passion. In fact, it's taken me on the adventure of a lifetime. I've been fortunate enough to earn my keep by performing in various shows across the city. You’d be surprised by how many places are desperate for talented dancers!

It's not just about the money, though. I’ve had the absolute honour of working with some phenomenal choreographers and dancers, learning new styles, and experiencing the thrill of sharing my passion with audiences. Each performance fills me with so much joy! 🥰

A Monday with a MetLife Twist

Now, about this glorious Monday. After a long but oh-so-inspiring rehearsal this morning (and yes, I was wearing my new blush-pink tutu, obviously), I decided to treat myself to a little luxury: a trip to the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Why? Because a certain world-famous pop star (whose name shall remain unnamed, though let’s just say he was in a “Teenage Dream” recently) is playing tonight, and I have tickets! 🎉🎉🎉

I know, right? This whole ‘ballerina-meets-pop-star’ thing feels straight out of a movie! Honestly, my life feels like one big, glamorous, pink tutu-tastic fairytale.

The train ride was a riot, especially since I managed to accidentally get into a conversation with a delightful lady wearing an actual feather boa. She was on her way to see a Broadway show, but I just couldn’t help but think – why not go the whole hog and rock a full-fledged pink tutu to the show?

It's a movement I’m hoping to start – making pink tutus the hottest fashion statement of the season! We could call it Pink Tutu Thursdays, or Tutu Tuesdays. What do you think? 😉

My Love for Broadway & Beyond

Before heading to East Rutherford, though, I wanted to soak up some quintessential New York City energy. My friend Alice (who you may recall from my post about the magical unicorn-themed café) joined me for a Broadway brunch, which we enjoyed at the chic and delightful eatery "Cafe Carlyle." We sipped cappuccinos and devoured blueberry pancakes while plotting out our week of theatre adventures.

After all, one of the reasons I fell in love with New York City is the thriving Broadway scene. There’s nothing quite like watching a powerful story unfold onstage with talented actors belting out show-stopping tunes, while dressed to the nines.

This week, we're seeing a revival of Chicago (my favourite!). You can be sure I'll be sporting my sparkly pink tutu with some glammed-up make-up – the whole nine yards, darling!

Ballet's Magic & The Pink Tutu Dream

Speaking of magic, did I tell you about the fantastic ballet performance I caught last weekend? It was the Swan Lake at the Lincoln Center, and let me tell you, it was absolutely mesmerizing. I can still picture the graceful movements, the beautiful music, and the sheer artistry of it all.

It truly is a special experience. And while watching these talented dancers flitting about the stage, I thought: what a glorious way to make a living. And not just for the magic of it all. For the opportunity to share a passion, to tell a story through movement and music, to be part of something so deeply beautiful.

That’s what I want to achieve with my pink tutu, too. To bring a little magic and sparkle to everyone's lives. Imagine everyone dancing down the street in a vibrant pink tutu, their faces lit up with pure joy. That’s the dream. The Pink Tutu Revolution.

I’m making my way back to my studio apartment right now, a whirlwind of memories and excitement. The weekend will be packed with shows, rehearsals, and perhaps a little retail therapy. (We can't talk about NYC without mentioning the fashion, darling! I discovered a vintage clothing store hidden in the Lower East Side, filled with treasures begging to be twirled in).

Stay tuned for all the pink tutu updates. And please, tell me your favourite New York City experiences. What are you loving right now? What are your pink tutu dreams? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Until next Monday,

Love,

Emma

Some shots are artistic close ups of Emma dancing, a few photos at the theatre shows, some candid snaps of her on the streets of New York, shopping, having brunch, travelling on the subway with a cheeky wink in a tutu].
