#PinkTutuBlogNYC Monday 2017-09-04 she danced in New York City

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, back with you all from the glorious, bustling, and ever-so-pink metropolis of New York City! I know it’s Monday, and maybe you’re still dragging yourselves out of your duvet, but I promise you, once you get a glimpse of my fabulous week here in the Big Apple, your day will be brightened right up.

This week marks post number 1161 of my #PinkTutuBlogNYC! Every week I bring you a little piece of my world, filled with tutu twirls, sparkling city lights, and a whole lotta love for this crazy city. And what better way to start the week than with a big, bold, pink hello to the most iconic city in the world!

So, grab a cuppa, settle into your most comfortable seat, and get ready to join me on an adventure, because… well, because it’s Monday, it’s New York City, and darling, it’s going to be fantastic!

I arrived in New York late last week, flying straight from a performance in Derbyshire, and let me tell you, the energy here is electric! The minute I stepped off that plane and onto the hot, busy streets, I knew I was back in my happy place. The sheer vibrant energy of this city always re-energizes me, making my heart thrum with anticipation and excitement. I am already smitten by the dazzling displays in the shop windows, the cacophony of city noises, the delicious aroma of hot dogs and pizza wafting from street vendors, and the endless streams of people rushing by, each one with a story to tell.

I had to kick things off right, so I decided on a little shopping spree along Fifth Avenue. Did I say a little? Okay, perhaps “extensive” is a better word. It’s almost impossible to walk past the designer boutiques and their window displays showcasing the most fabulous fashion pieces. Oh, the things I saw! Every designer you could imagine, and enough gorgeous handbags to make a girl swoon!

Of course, I had to indulge in a little retail therapy. I wouldn’t be a true #PinkTutuBlogger if I didn't, wouldn’t I? I managed to find the most exquisite blush pink cashmere sweater and a pair of classic, sparkling silver ballerina flats that will go perfectly with my tutu. The joy of finding the perfect accessory for a twirling ballerina never gets old, it’s pure bliss. I can already imagine twirling in these babies along the Brooklyn Bridge, my tutu billowing in the wind!

After all that retail therapy, I knew the perfect way to recover: a visit to the world-renowned Lincoln Center! 🩰 You just can’t be in New York and not soak up some culture, can you? This city is famous for its vibrant theatre and performance scene, and a trip to the ballet is absolutely non-negotiable. I headed straight for the New York City Ballet.

Let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed! The sheer elegance and technical brilliance of these dancers took my breath away. From the mesmerizing choreography to the exquisite costumes and sets, the whole experience was breathtaking. They were twirling, leaping, and gliding across the stage, making me wish I was out there with them, performing alongside those talented professionals! It was a pure joy to witness the dedication and skill that poured from their movements. It reminded me that nothing inspires me more than seeing a dance performance executed with absolute perfection.

Afterwards, I sat outside the building and enjoyed a steaming cup of hot cocoa, watching the world go by. It’s a fascinating mix of city bustle and culture. A truly captivating and inspiring experience, if I do say so myself!

One thing you absolutely cannot avoid in New York City is the incredible food! And I’m not just talking about the quintessential hot dogs and pizza (though those are always welcome!), New York has everything. I had the most incredible vegan pizza in a little Italian trattoria tucked away in Greenwich Village. I’m talking about thin crust, perfectly seasoned, topped with fresh mozzarella, arugula, and cherry tomatoes, it was so good it made me cry!

And what’s a trip to New York without an iconic, steaming hot dog, right? I devoured the juiciest, most perfectly seasoned hot dog from a street vendor near Central Park. It was a true delight, and of course, I added a healthy serving of pickles and mustard to create the ultimate New York City hot dog experience. I couldn’t resist getting a picture with it too! I even managed to convince the vendor to join in on the picture. A bit of silly fun never hurts, does it?

New York is all about experiencing everything the city has to offer, and let’s face it, who wants to walk for hours and hours, especially in these amazing stilettos? A truly delightful way to see the city is via the subway. Not only is it incredibly efficient, but it’s a real glimpse into the everyday life of the New Yorkers, so very different from Derbyshire. It’s always exciting to be jostling among the locals, rushing between the different boroughs.

This week I took a leisurely ride through the heart of the city, observing everyone's lives going on around me. The subway has such a captivating vibe. It’s busy, it’s loud, it’s sometimes a little chaotic, but it's always exciting. People come and go, each with their unique story. There are artists showcasing their talents, buskers filling the station with beautiful melodies, musicians and dancers, and even a group of teenagers sharing some silly dance moves – just another slice of that captivating New York energy!

Of course, you just can’t ride the subway without feeling inspired! And as usual, I was captivated by the creative energy of this fantastic city. I got to chatting to an artist selling their handmade jewelry and bracelets in the subway station. You know, she reminded me of the kind of creativity that reminds you why it's so important to follow your passion! She shared her vision for the pieces, and she really impressed me. She was absolutely buzzing with inspiration, just like me when I see the twinkling city lights at night.

And if there's one thing that I’ve learnt, it’s this: New York is a city full of colour, a city that encourages you to be yourself, a city where every corner throws a new, exciting experience your way! I couldn’t resist taking a few photos of the interesting characters on the subway! The perfect mix of creativity and energy in one of the busiest cities in the world,

By the end of the day, my head was spinning with the sights, the sounds, and the energy of this fantastic city! But it’s only Monday, so we’re not finished yet! There’s a lot more to discover, a lot more to experience, and of course, a whole lotta tutu-twirling to do in the days ahead! But for now, I’m going to enjoy this gorgeous view of the city skyline and leave you all with a thought that keeps popping up in my mind while I'm in New York. You can do anything you set your mind to. Dare to dream, my darlings! It’s a very empowering and encouraging reminder! I just love New York for that, that spirit of “yes we can”. It’s truly infectious.
