Hello darlings! It's Monday, and you know what that means… Pink Tutu Blog time! I’m Emma, and I’m a twenty-something, tutu-loving, ballet-mad gal from Derbyshire, England. My life mission? To get the whole world twirling in a pink tutu! This week, we're diving right into the heart of the Big Apple, New York City!
And oh, darling, it's simply magical! The city feels alive, bustling with energy. From the second my feet touched the pavement at JFK Airport, I felt a tingle of excitement running right through me. Of course, I'd arrived in style, my pink suitcase (because what else could it possibly be?!) practically exploding with enough tutu goodness to outfit a whole Broadway show.
Speaking of Broadway, New York City is basically made for tutus! Imagine me, skipping down 5th Avenue, the iconic yellow cabs zooming past, and the sunshine glinting off my twirly, pink perfection. My tutus were certainly a hit amongst the locals! Every little girl seemed to gravitate towards my pinkness. A sweet lady even told me I reminded her of the "Dancing Ballerina" mobile from her childhood – now isn’t that the most perfect compliment ever?!
A whirlwind of dance and delight:So, what have I been up to? Let's just say it’s been a whirl-wind of ballet, shopping, and city exploring – all with a healthy dose of pink thrown in for good measure. I’ve seen a fabulous ballet performance at the Metropolitan Opera House - and I’m still mesmerised by the sheer skill and beauty. It was like stepping into a fairy tale.
And what about this stunning new dance show I saw? "Ballet Underground"? It was edgy, contemporary, and I can’t believe it’s happening in the very heart of Manhattan! Every movement was a piece of art! I could hardly contain myself. I mean, you know me! I’ve got to get that inner ballerina twirling.
The magic of New York has swept me off my feet, darling! I mean, everywhere you look there's art, history, and just an indescribable vibrancy in the air! You really have to experience it for yourself!
City Sights & a Pink-Tastic Wardrobe Update:The thing is, this isn’t my first visit to New York! I’ve been here before – a few years back. But it still feels like my first time - and everything feels so exciting, new, and vibrant. Maybe it’s my pink tutus that are changing everything. Perhaps they're like magical portal-openers, allowing me to see the world through a pink-tinted lens - full of magic and wonder!
I can’t even begin to tell you how many fabulous shops and boutiques I’ve discovered! Oh, the things I've found! (I might have just acquired a stunning new pair of pink ballet pumps, oh and let’s not forget the absolutely fabulous pink glitter nail polish).
A Taste of New York and a Touch of Pink:We can’t talk about New York without talking about the delicious food. My taste buds are singing! So far, I’ve managed to indulge in:
- New York cheesecake - divine! Honestly, nothing else can come close.
- A perfect slice of pizza - I can't say no to a crispy, cheesy delight, especially with that New York flair.
- A mountain of steaming hot bagels - the ultimate New York breakfast, so yummy. I love the texture of these. And of course, a little extra cream cheese for good measure.
Every meal is a little celebration of this incredible city. The hustle and bustle of it all adds a little extra zest to each bite.
But even my adventures have a touch of Pink. My New York experience is all about finding that perfect pink balance – a sprinkle of colour and glamour that turns everyday life into a fairytale.
Ballet, City Escapades, and Pink - A Love Triangle:And if you think that ballet doesn't quite belong in this crazy, energetic city… well, you're wrong! This place is teeming with artistic talent.
Every corner of this city pulses with the energy of dance. You can feel the rhythm, even on the most crowded subway lines. And of course, let’s not forget the metro! That is another exciting highlight for me! You see, the city itself feels like a giant stage – a beautiful stage!
But let’s face it, the most beautiful sights of New York are found within those classic theatres! And the shows themselves – wow! I’m trying to catch as many as possible during my stay. Oh darling, Broadway is simply phenomenal!
This city is overflowing with creative passion and artistry! Everywhere I go, there’s a story to be told, a ballet to be witnessed, and a fashion moment to capture! New York truly knows how to put on a show, both on and off the stage.
And this pink tutu girl is right at the centre of the magic!
A Bit of London:I know, I know, I should be writing all about NYC, but you know how I am... My travels often have me remembering the UK, and of course, dear London, too! This past week I’ve had to make an exciting trip back to the UK. My London blog was up last week – which of course you all read! You just have to catch up if you missed it, dear!
And of course, I returned with an extra new tutu for my collection (oh, that one's a real beauty. You'll see!) But hey, that's the way it is, dear! The pink tutu is a true traveller - so naturally, it wants to go everywhere with me!
But wait, what is even more exciting?New York City has some rather grand and glamorous plans to come! The city is just getting started with a brand new festival happening this weekend. *Oh darling, it’s all about the ballet, of course! It’s "Ballet Extravaganza"! *
And just look at what it features:
*New York Ballet Masterclasses: * For a few precious days, a number of top dance schools will be offering free open-to-the-public classes. This is the perfect chance to watch the best of the best and try a few moves yourself.
An afternoon tea party for all the princesses in training! The sweetest little affair, held in the historic Hotel Plaza. I’m dreaming of pink macarons and teacup conversations - all under the magnificent crystal chandeliers!
Live performances: Featuring a selection of new, contemporary, and classical ballets - all performed by world-class dance companies and even up and coming students from some of the finest ballet schools. I can’t wait to watch those talented young stars shine!
Dance Fashion Show: What else would I include? A parade of tutus in the city's biggest ballroom. They will showcase the most glamorous ballet outfits of the season - think beautiful gowns, gorgeous headpieces, and of course, a whole lotta pink!
I have a pretty awesome schedule mapped out - even before I get started! This will involve an absolute whirlwind of activities and events that I can't wait to share with all of you.
It’s a busy schedule. But with my tutus twirling, and a healthy dose of optimism, I am absolutely thrilled!
And yes, it wouldn’t be right to come to this ballet festival in New York without giving my loveliest tutus the spotlight! That means a trip into the shops for more twirly goodness (did I mention that I’ve fallen in love with a gorgeous new fuchsia pink? I think I might just need a brand new creation…)
But in a very practical manner – how does one prepare for this festival of tutus?
My top three must-do’s:
*Step One – Shopping Time!: * I am going to be making a mad dash through the city's greatest shopping spots for the ultimate ballet wardrobe – I have so many outfits I just have to buy! We need glitz, glam and, of course, every single shade of pink. The hunt for the perfect pink begins here, in the heart of New York! And I already have my eye on a few fabulous pieces - let's just say those sparkly details are my current weakness.
*Step Two – Get ready for those Masterclasses!: * With a twinkle in my eye and my dancing shoes on, I’m ready for a few masterclasses. Oh, I have to make some room on my dance floor back home for these new moves! I will have to practice, and practice and… I guess I better grab my notebook because I will certainly need it! I will tell you all about them, darling!
*Step Three - Get ready for those delicious treats!: * I have my schedule set, so my next trip into Manhattan will involve my favourite bagel shop, of course, plus a few surprise delicacies I’m saving for my special trip this week. Oh, and that special pink pastry at my favourite New York pastry shop. I have my eye on a delicate macaron cake in my very favourite colour, with a few secret, sweet surprises hidden inside. Oh darling, you know me!
I promise you that each of those must-do’s will end with an incredible picture for you, so stay tuned!
