Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1186 - Dancing in the Big Apple!
Hello my lovely readers! It’s Monday morning and time for a new post from your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, writing to you live from the Big Apple! This is my 1186th blog post - can you believe it? I’ve been chronicling my adventures in fashion, dance, and everything pink since 2013, and honestly, it’s been the most magical journey.
This week, I’m in New York City, where the streets are my dance floor, and every corner a potential performance. The city is abuzz with energy, the sound of honking taxis a thrilling soundtrack to my twirling. My suitcase is brimming with tutus – enough for every occasion, from a casual coffee in Central Park (think a soft tulle in blush pink) to an evening at the ballet (a show-stopping sequined number in fuchsia).
And speaking of ballet… how lucky am I? This week, I’m attending a spectacular performance by the American Ballet Theatre at the Metropolitan Opera House. I’ve always admired the beauty and grace of classical ballet, and there’s something about the New York Ballet that simply electrifies the stage. Imagine twirling alongside the finest dancers in the world, all against the backdrop of the stunning Metropolitan Opera House – it's truly a dream come true!
Before I go into detail about the incredible ballet, let's chat about fashion. No trip to New York is complete without a pilgrimage to the city's legendary department stores. The sheer volume of clothes and accessories here is overwhelming in the best possible way! Think rows upon rows of luxurious fabrics, shimmering jewels, and countless shoe designs that make your toes tap in excitement. I particularly love Bergdorf Goodman. It's an elegant emporium, brimming with exquisite gowns and statement pieces - perfect for creating a glamorous look for the ballet!
Outfit Inspiration:
Since I'm a ballet enthusiast, I chose an outfit that would honour my love of dance, whilst still incorporating some New York City flair. My choice for this outfit is:
- A sparkling pink tutu: It’s a vintage number I found in a small boutique in Soho. It has beautiful layers of pink tulle, sparkling with tiny sequins. I absolutely adore its classic and whimsical vibe.
- A silky black top: This top features a plunging neckline and elegant cap sleeves, creating a perfect balance with the tutu's fullness.
- Black heeled pumps: A pair of classic stiletto heels with a tiny bit of a kitten heel (comfortable is key for a day of walking the streets) and elegant detailing to compliment my black top. I’ve discovered so many wonderful little shoe stores around Manhattan.
New York's Charm: Beyond Ballet:
Of course, New York City has so much more to offer than just its dance scene. From the towering skyscrapers that touch the sky to the vibrant street art that bursts from every corner, the city has a certain magic that I simply can’t get enough of. It’s a city that inspires creativity in every form - from fashion to art to music.
One of the best ways to truly experience this magical city is by hopping on the subway. The “L” train is the best choice - there's something about gliding underground that reminds me of dancing, it's an exhilarating and unique experience that sets New York City apart from any other place in the world. I even managed to capture a few adorable snapshots for Instagram in a couple of underground stations – it was practically an impromptu photoshoot with the perfect New York backdrop.
What To Do This Week: An Evening at the Opera:
My evening started with a stroll through Times Square, that dazzling wonderland of lights. It's exhilarating to stand in the heart of the action and watch the city come alive! Then, with the first notes of music drifting from the opera house, we entered the world of "Swan Lake."
Watching the dancers perform such complex and delicate movements on stage was absolutely mesmerizing. Every pirouette and jeté seemed to float effortlessly, every graceful leap filled with grace and emotion. The performance took my breath away - and left me craving more.
Afterwards, we headed for a celebratory dinner. The bustling energy of New York is so infectious, the joy is contagious. We sat outside a small Italian restaurant, the air crisp and clear. I knew as we ate and drank the best pasta and wine the city has to offer, this was a memory to savour. I had my perfect tutu-fied day, my perfect day. And New York City certainly has a way of making you feel utterly glamorous. Maybe this time, I’ll finally conquer the steps to The Nutcracker!
I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my world, my lovely readers. Be sure to tune in next Monday, for more Pink Tutu Blog fun, right here on www.pink-tutu.com
