Good Monday morning, darlings! It’s me, Emma, your favourite tutu-clad traveller, bringing you another exciting escapade from the Big Apple! ✨ The wind's whipping past my pink tulle as I type this, perched on a comfy armchair in my favourite boutique hotel, surrounded by designer goodies. This week's adventures have been nothing short of fabulous, so grab a cuppa and settle in for a whirl through my New York diary!
From Derbyshire to Manhattan
Let’s rewind a little, shall we? Last week, I was back in my quaint little corner of Derbyshire, swapping my towering Manhattan high heels for trusty walking boots and exchanging the constant buzz of the city for the gentle rustle of leaves. It was a lovely change of pace, spent catching up with family and, of course, perfecting my pirouettes in my own little ballet studio. But, as always, my heart yearns for the pulse of New York City, and it wasn't long before I was back on the Metro, heading for another exhilarating adventure.
Ballet and Broadway
The first thing that brought me back to New York was a glorious evening at the New York City Ballet. A mesmerising performance of Balanchine's "Symphony in C" transported me to another world. The elegant dancers seemed to glide across the stage, their movements as effortless as if they were born under a spotlight. Every arabesque, every fouetté was a beautiful celebration of the human form, and it made my heart ache to dance with such grace and skill. I felt inspired, my tutu-wearing soul tingling with the desire to perform.
Of course, a trip to New York wouldn’t be complete without a Broadway show. This week, I snagged tickets to the "Moulin Rouge!" musical - oh my goodness! What a production! It's like stepping into a gorgeous, dazzling spectacle – so full of vibrant costumes, heart-stopping music and incredible performances. There's nothing like the electric energy that fills a Broadway theatre. You can practically feel the excitement thrumming through the air! I emerged from the theatre feeling exhilarated and, of course, completely in love with the glitz and glamour of Broadway.
Fashion Finds
You all know how much I adore clothes shopping, and let me tell you, New York City never disappoints! I spent a happy afternoon wandering through the boutiques of SoHo, where the newest fashion trends come to life. My personal favourite this season is a beautiful, cherry blossom pink silk scarf, a gorgeous statement piece that instantly transforms any outfit. I snagged a couple of trendy, floral print sundresses for the coming summer (it’s still chilly here, but sunshine is just around the corner!) – because a little hint of spring is always welcome. I always have an eye out for a statement piece that I can pair with my tutus - and believe me, New York City is a treasure trove of beautiful items!
Street Style and City Rhythms
My wanderlust led me down many side streets this week, each offering its own unique flavour. From the trendy vintage boutiques of Williamsburg to the vibrant street art in Bushwick, the city keeps me captivated with its diversity. Of course, I couldn’t resist taking advantage of all the street style inspiration! There's an almost infectious fashion energy in New York, a spirit of embracing individuality that's contagious. You’ll often find me capturing moments on my camera phone – I love how the city's spirit becomes captured in these tiny snapshots!
Speaking of spirits, the city is also buzzing with events. From the electrifying energy of a DJ set at a Brooklyn warehouse to the calming beauty of a poetry slam at an underground speakeasy, there’s always something new to discover in New York. Even when I just hop on the subway, it’s like a stage with its own performance playing out - a constant stream of humanity that makes the journey fascinating!
Pink Tutus Take Manhattan
Of course, I haven’t forgotten my mission - to get everyone dancing in pink tutus! My week in New York wouldn't be complete without sharing the pink tutu love. As I strolled through Central Park, I spotted a young girl with a sweet pink ballerina dress. I had to introduce myself! She seemed thrilled with my tutu (which is my new one – the shade is divine – a blend of blush and coral that glimmers under the sunshine!) and we had a fun little dance party in the park. The little girl’s mother even took our picture - who knows, maybe she’ll start rocking a tutu, too! You can't stop a good tutu trend once it takes hold!
Next Week: Upstate Adventure
My New York adventures aren’t over yet. Next week, I'm taking a detour out of the city, venturing into the beauty of the Catskills. I can't wait to escape the city's bustle for some peaceful mountain air, reconnect with nature, and explore the area's rich history. And don't worry, I won’t be leaving my pink tutu behind. You can’t keep a tutu from making an appearance, wherever it roams!
