#PinkTutuBlogNYC: Dancing in the City That Never Sleeps!

Monday 11th June 2018, Post 1201

Hello, darling readers! I'm Emma, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-clad ballerina, and it's time for another Monday morning dose of New York City glamour! Today, I'm buzzing with excitement - not only because it's a new week, but because I'm finally writing from the heart of the Big Apple itself! That's right, my darlings, I've landed in New York City, and let me tell you, it's everything I dreamed it would be and more!

But first, a quick update on what led me here! As you know, I'm a big fan of travelling, and I love experiencing the world in all its colour and vibrancy. And this trip to New York has been a dream of mine for years!

Now, you might be wondering how a girl like me, a self-proclaimed tutu-obsessed ballerina, funds all these wonderful adventures? Well, it's all thanks to my dancing! You see, I have a real talent for ballet, and I've been performing for as long as I can remember. It's my passion, my art form, and itā€™s the perfect way to travel. After all, ballet truly is a universal language. I get to share the magic of dance with audiences all around the world, and that magic keeps me dancing, travelling, and most importantly, twirling in my pink tutu!

Speaking of which, my new tutu is quite a sight, darling. Itā€™s a vibrant pink, with a generous layer of shimmering sequins and a sprinkle of glittery tulle. It really is a spectacle, and I couldn't have chosen a better outfit for my New York City adventure!

Iā€™ve got so much to tell you about my time here so far! Iā€™ve been dancing, exploring, and indulging in all the delights New York has to offer. It's been non-stop from the moment I arrived. From exploring the vibrant streets of Greenwich Village and Times Square to catching breathtaking Broadway shows, my time here has been an absolute whirl of excitement!

As I said, Iā€™m writing this from my New York apartment. Itā€™s cute as a button - just like a fairy tale princessā€™s room! I have a tiny balcony with a perfect view of the iconic cityscape! It's just too perfect! Oh, and it goes without saying that the room is awash with pink. Youā€™ll understand this as soon as you step in.

Oh, how I love New York City! I know what you're thinking - New York, thatā€™s where I want to go! If you ever decide to visit, remember, pink is always the best way to embrace the Big Apple, especially in a tutu!

So letā€™s talk about all the lovely things Iā€™ve experienced here, starting with...

New York City Style: A fashionista's dream

New York City, it goes without saying, is a sartorial paradise. And I, being the tutu-wearing ballerina that I am, couldnā€™t resist taking full advantage! The streets are filled with bold, beautiful people, each with their own unique style, but the vibe is definitely one of chic elegance and confident individuality!

Oh my gosh, where to begin! From Fifth Avenue's designer boutiques to the independent stores on Bleecker Street, Iā€™ve been absolutely spoilt for choice. Of course, I've treated myself to a few pieces - Iā€™m in New York, darling, so you have to have a splurge once in a while!

Day One in New York

So, let's rewind a little to my arrival day. The second I stepped off the plane, I knew I was in for a treat. The energy in New York City is simply electrifying!

As soon as I checked into my cute apartment, I couldn't wait to explore. My trusty, fabulous pink tutu made an appearance and of course, my cute little pink suitcase - you always need an accessory in this city. I made my way out of the apartment building, down to the metro station and headed straight to Times Square! And trust me, I wasn't disappointed.

Iā€™ve always loved New Yorkā€™s energy - this feeling that anything is possible and everyoneā€™s always on the go! Of course, itā€™s completely different to my charming, peaceful Derbyshire. But who needs peaceful when you have this vibrancy? And whatā€™s best, this whole energy seems to encourage even a ballet girl like me to be bold!

This energy meant, of course, shopping had to be part of the day. Let's be real, my favourite things to shop for are, of course, tutus and clothes for my dance performances. I do also have to find time for some pink-tinted fashion essentials. There are no such things as too many pink things, after all! So I headed straight to a boutique on Fifth Avenue that has the most exquisite dresses. I found this amazing pink sequined dress that will be perfect for the grand gala that Iā€™m going to on Friday. I have this incredible feeling itā€™s going to be spectacular! Itā€™s the type of gala you want to attend wearing something magical and sparkly. I am really excited about Friday now. And to finish it all off, of course, I also found a beautiful pink tulle top! It is, after all, absolutely necessary for my wardrobe here. You never know, I may meet a special someone hereā€¦ and he will absolutely adore the little ballerina in a pink tulle top.

After my first day shopping, I went to Central Park. What an incredible green haven right in the heart of the city! So tranquil. The first day, I couldnā€™t resist a lovely walk amongst all the people. You wouldnā€™t believe how much fun it is to watch people enjoy the city around them! From lovers holding hands, to mothers taking their kids for a walk - there's something really heartwarming about the moments you witness in a city park like Central Park. I sat on one of the park benches and had a little bite from my adorable picnic basket!

Now, a good day, like any good dance show, always has to have a grand finale. And I must say, I'm completely smitten with the beauty and the grace of New York's theatre scene! My New York adventure simply had to include seeing a Broadway show, so I went to see ā€œPhantom of the Operaā€! The energy was simply electric, and the performance was a stunning feat of music and storytelling. I was completely captivated by the spectacle and the drama, and it truly was a perfect ending to my first day in New York.

A Monday in the Life of a Pink Tutu Ballerina

Back to the present. Today was the day for my weekly dose of ballet class. Of course, when you are in New York City you canā€™t just attend any ordinary ballet class. It needs to be a class with the top teachers and I found just the one, a fantastic studio that's frequented by many professional dancers! I joined their morning class, which was challenging but exhilarating! The instructor was really knowledgeable and had amazing experience working with professional ballerinas and actors from New York's biggest shows, and I really think the techniques she used helped me get closer to reaching my true dancing potential. This amazing morning class made me feel that much closer to making the leap from my life in Derbyshire and finding a way to dance full-time here in the city that never sleeps. I just know that if I could achieve my dreams of dancing in New York - Iā€™d be unstoppable.

Before I forget, I have to talk about the metro, because for a Londoner girl, it is truly something else. You see, London and New York both have these grand metro networks - both bustling with thousands of people every day - but New York seems to have this magic about it! It has that chaotic, ā€œno-stoppingā€ feeling about it. This exciting and slightly nervous energy makes the city come alive and the journeys extra special. You see, my dear reader, the subway, for all of its flaws, truly connects people and creates this extraordinary social energy. Even when the metro's delayed or there's a lot of pushing and shoving to squeeze onto the trains, I think everyoneā€™s still loving the feeling of togetherness it creates, of being part of this vibrant heartbeat of the city. For me, this social buzz of the city is as addictive as chocolate cake!

But you know, one can't simply rely on the city for entertainment - as you well know, I love having my own fun, too! So after ballet class, I grabbed my picnic basket, put on my favorite pink tutu, and took a long walk in Central Park. As it turns out, the weather was perfect! Sun and blue skies. After the walk, I picked a spot amongst all those lovely, colourful flowers to sit down for a peaceful lunch and admire the lovely day. The perfect combination of exercise, fun and fresh air. What a wonderful morning!

I did of course indulge myself with a hot chocolate. It has been a real hot day in New York today! Oh, my goodness. And then in the evening, I saw my very first performance of New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center. My heart skipped a beat - that incredible energy you feel when you step into an actual theater, into the heart of what a performing arts space is all about. The energy was amazing! Everyone dressed to the nines.

Now, I was hoping to get a photograph of me dancing with the New York City Ballet but my pink tutu has really turned some heads, and it wasnā€™t appropriate for the photo shoot. It looks as though this tutu isnā€™t as acceptable in the formal spaces as it is on my adventures around the city. It just goes to show - you have to always adapt to the situation. What a valuable lesson in style, as always. It just goes to show that even a girly-girl like me has to learn to adjust her style. And I still got to have an incredible experience and I got to wear my sparkly ballet shoes and a sparkly outfit that suited the occasion! The only thing I could do to make the experience even better was to grab a scoop of gelato on the way out! I love New York so much - I get the feeling this could be my new city. And I have to tell you - even if I have to find another tutu or two - the possibilities here are simply endless! I cannot wait to see what I get up to this week.

You never know - it might even turn into an unexpected ballerina storyā€¦

Until Next Monday!

Emma.
