Pink Tutu Blog: NYC - Monday, 16th July 2018 (Post #1206)
Helloooo darlings!
Well, I'm back in New York City again! The Big Apple is always a magical place, and I've missed it so much. As always, I'm buzzing with excitement for everything this week has in store - amazing ballet shows, fabulous fashion, and oh, so many pink tutu opportunities!
I swear, I have the best luck when it comes to finding ballet performances, especially here in NYC. You know, there's this secret magic that surrounds these things. I like to think that when I slip into my pink tutu, the city itself practically throws open its doors and welcomes me with a grand ballet gesture! 😉
This week, I'm so thrilled to be seeing "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Lincoln Center. Just thinking about all that intricate choreography, the glorious costumes, and the haunting melodies fills me with such giddy joy. There's something so timeless and captivating about the stories of princesses, handsome princes, and of course, the ultimate happily-ever-after. I'm going to try my hardest to take you along for the ride – maybe even attempt some fancy Instagram snaps. But you’ll have to forgive my amateur photo-taking, because sometimes the most beautiful things can't quite be captured with just a few clicks. It’s just gotta be experienced.
Speaking of beautiful things… you guys, my suitcase is absolutely bursting at the seams with some serious fashion finds! I finally landed on the perfect pale pink summer dress – perfect for strolling through Central Park. (And if anyone can tell me where I can find a pink tutu-esque bicycle basket, let me know - a girl’s gotta keep up with her sartorial style, even on two wheels!)
As much as I love exploring new shops and finding those unexpected treasures, it’s really the people here that truly make this city a joy. There’s an infectious energy in New York City that radiates from everyone, from the street artists in Greenwich Village to the street performers in Times Square. You really feel it when you’re zipping around on the subway.
Actually, speaking of the metro, you wouldn't believe the conversation I had this morning! This friendly lady, Mary, overheard me talking about ballet (I can’t help it, it just naturally slips out) and we had this hilarious chat about our favourite dancers and all things pink.
“I know you're from England, love," Mary told me, her eyes twinkling, "You must be here for that ‘royal wedding’, eh?"
"Oh, Mary,” I laughed, " I don’t know how anyone would even try to compare my love of pink tutus with their royal wedding! They should be embracing all things pink, you know, it's all the rage!.”
Turns out Mary was quite the pink fan herself, especially after she told me how much her granddaughter loved my blog! We were both tickled pink, and it felt so lovely to meet someone so supportive of the whole pink tutu ethos – she even said she was going to wear pink shoes to the ballet this week! Now that's the kind of neighbour I'd love to have!
So what's on the schedule this week?
Besides “Sleeping Beauty," there are some exciting performances at the Theatre District! My new friend, Mary, recommended this hilarious musical that uses nothing but interpretive dance and, well, lots of pink. So needless to say, I'm on board with that!
You can't tell me New York doesn't have something for everyone. I mean, even when I find myself simply taking in the view from the balcony of my hotel room, with a warm summer breeze ruffling through my pink tutu, it feels like something magical is about to happen! And with my favourite ballet shows, captivating city sights, and of course, the delicious smell of freshly-baked cupcakes from that charming little bakery down the road, how could anything possibly go wrong?
Stay tuned, my darling tutus! I’ll be keeping you updated on all my New York adventures.
Until next Monday! XOXO Emma
