Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 2018-09-03 - Tutu-ing Around New York City!

Post Number: 1213

Hello, lovelies! It's your favourite tutu-wearing, pink-obsessed, ballet-mad blogger back again for another whirl through the wonder that is New York City. I'm currently perched on a park bench in Central Park, surrounded by squirrels, joggers and dog walkers - the perfect setting for a cuppa and my weekly blog post for you lovely lot.

Itā€™s been a fantastic week in the Big Apple! Youā€™ve probably guessed it from the title - Iā€™ve been dancing in New York City! (That sentence alone makes me squeal with delight). It all kicked off on Wednesday, when I took part in an absolutely stunning open-air ballet class right here in Central Park. The backdrop of the skyline against a glorious summer sunset just about made my heart explode.

Remember how I said my aim in life is to get everyone wearing a pink tutu? Well, this class was almost there. Youā€™ve never seen so many pink tutus in one place before! And if that doesn't sound fabulous enough, the class was taught by a world-renowned ballerina (who wore a pink tutu, of course). Talk about achieving tutu-clad ballerina goals!

But hold your tutus - the fun didn't stop there. After that whirlwind of pirouettes, I met up with some of the most stylish dancers in New York City (all, unsurprisingly, rocking gorgeous pink tutus). We giggled and gossiped over lattes (and maybe a cupcake or two - you can never go wrong with a New York City cupcake), and talked all things ballet, fashion and fabulousness. Itā€™s the little things, really - the connections you make with fellow dance lovers and fellow pink tutu fanatics that truly make my travels magical.

Of course, being in New York City is all about the sights and the experiences. This weekend, I saw a Broadway show that simply blew my mind. It was so moving and so wonderfully choreographed, I honestly cried (but only a little). Youā€™re all going to love it when I review it in the next couple of days! I love seeing shows in New York - the sheer energy and creativity is incredible. And speaking of energy, New Yorkers truly have so much of it. Itā€™s contagious, and it pushes you to do everything with a little bit more pizazz. (They are big fans of my pink tutu, too!)

But no trip to New York City would be complete without a little shopping. (Anyone who knows me, knows I always need to do a little shopping). This time, I went straight for a gorgeous blush pink sequinned dress at Saks. Iā€™ll be pairing it with my trusty pink tutu for a performance coming up in a couple of weeks - imagine the sparkling combination! Plus, I'm planning to showcase it for you lot when I film my next YouTube video - stay tuned!

You know, what I love most about my adventures is sharing them with you guys. Youā€™re my support system, my tutu-loving cheer squad, my everything. And I feel incredibly grateful that I can share this little slice of the world, my passion for dance, and of course, my love for all things pink with you! So, keep your pink tutus ready, lovelies. Thereā€™s so much more fun to be had!

Until next Monday!

Love,

Emma x

*PS: * Did you know September 3rd is the day we celebrate International Tutu Day?

What? You havenā€™t heard of it? Donā€™t worry - I hadnā€™t either until just recently. Now Iā€™m telling you all about it.

The story behind International Tutu Day is a fascinating one! It's all about appreciating the impact of ballet, the strength of female dancers and, of course, the magical elegance of the tutu! Itā€™s like a birthday for the ballet world, and who am I to miss celebrating such a wondrous occasion?

To celebrate International Tutu Day (and of course, to do it in the ultimate New York City style), I decided to dance in a tutu on the subway! I canā€™t think of a better way to celebrate the joy and freedom of movement. It certainly turned heads and sparked a few conversations - in a city that never sleeps, it was a good reminder to wake everyone up to the fun of dancing. It was my little way of bringing a touch of grace and joy to New York City. And just in case you were wondering, a pink tutu just screams ā€œNew York Cityā€, wouldnā€™t you say?

Speaking of the New York City Subway, I must say, riding the Metro is truly a fantastic adventure in itself. Imagine all those characters from movies - I swear Iā€™ve spotted more than a few. But hey, you never know who youā€™ll run into on a New York City Metro journey! You never know, you might just bump into yours truly rocking a tutu!

Anyway, back to the tutu! If you havenā€™t already, make sure to celebrate International Tutu Day by:

  • Dancing your heart out! Turn up the music and let your body move. You donā€™t need a stage or a fancy studio - even your living room will do!
  • Ditching the regular clothes for a tutu! Iā€™m talking everything from tutus at the shops, at a park or even on your next journey on public transport ( just watch out for the long tulle!) - Letā€™s fill the world with pink and sparkle.
  • Sharing the love for dance! Get your friends and family in on the fun. Tell them all about the beauty of dance, the impact of ballerinas and, of course, the absolute joy of twirling in a tutu!

So, donā€™t forget to wear your pink tutus on the 3rd of September, or better yet, every day! Itā€™s a small, but incredibly joyful gesture that speaks volumes about our love for dance, fashion, and letting your inner sparkle shine!

Until next Monday!

Love,

Emma x

*What to wear for this September trip: * As the weather in New York is just about to transition from sizzling hot summer to a lovely, crisp autumn, my fashion game has been adapting too! While my love for tutus hasn't changed a bit (they're my all-time favourite outfit!), I've been experimenting with textures and styles for this transitional period. Here are a few pieces I've been loving and think would be perfect for a touch of feminine glamour with a New York City twist:

Top Tip: Every stylish New Yorker knows itā€™s about layers. That way, you can peel off when itā€™s hot, and stay warm and fabulous as the sun sets.

  1. A chic white shirt: You can't go wrong with a crisp, elegant white shirt in New York. This staple is versatile, chic, and perfect for layering with a tutu!
  2. A blush pink silk scarf: Nothing screams feminine elegance quite like silk, especially when itā€™s in my favourite shade! Tie it around your neck for a sophisticated touch, or tie it loosely around your ponytail, perfect for an off-duty ballerina look!
  3. A classic black cardigan: The perfect partner for breezy evenings in New York! This cardigan can be draped over your shoulders when it gets chilly. The timeless elegance of black also sets off the vibrancy of pink brilliantly!
  4. A trusty black blazer: Another versatile layer! Wear this with a casual outfit or dress it up for an evening out. A touch of tailoring will instantly up the ante on your fashion game, making you feel ready to take on New York in your pink tutu.
  5. A pair of high-heeled ankle boots: Not only do these make your legs look fantastic, they add that cool city chic element to your outfit! They work perfectly with skirts, dresses, or jeans - a total wardrobe essential!
  6. And of course, a pink tutu: My absolute must-have! Wear it under a dress, with a shirt and trousers or just by itself. If you want a touch of sparkle and a truly unique style, choose a tulle tutu - the movement of the fabric as you twirl in the bustling streets of New York will make heads turn.

If you're headed to New York, or even just out and about in your hometown, remember that your style is all about personal expression! Let your inner ballerina shine and embrace a playful sense of fashion with a little touch of pink - just remember that tutu is an absolute must. And always remember, your unique style, paired with a sprinkle of pink magic, will transform your city into a ballet wonderland!

Love,

Emma x
