Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Adventures! Post #1224 - Monday 19th November 2018

Oh my darlings! What a whirlwind week itā€™s been. As always, the Big Apple has been buzzing with excitement. Let me tell you all about my latest escapades in the pinkest city in the world (I may be biased, but hear me out).

It all started in a flurry of sequins and silk. This weekā€™s dance performance took me to the majestic Brooklyn Academy of Music. Can you even believe it? They have an exquisite art deco interior with stunning marble floors, itā€™s the perfect venue for ballet!

The show was a modern piece, "The Labyrinth of Dreams", full of captivating movements and a touch of the theatrical. As soon as the music began, the dancers, dressed in breathtaking black costumes, brought the story to life. Itā€™s amazing how the sheer strength and agility of their bodies tell a whole narrative through the language of dance. Every pirouette and grand jetĆ© had me mesmerised. Of course, it would have been an absolute dream to dance alongside these graceful beings, but alas, I had to be content with applauding them from the audience (a truly delightful alternative, Iā€™m sure you agree).

The Fashion Files

As for my wardrobe choices this weekā€¦ well, itā€™s simply been too much to choose from! New York City is a veritable haven of sartorial inspiration. I popped into Saks Fifth Avenue for some shopping therapy. You just know thereā€™s going to be some serious luxury finds there. I snagged a gorgeous blush-pink satin ballet skirt, adorned with shimmering sequins and a statement bow. You can imagine the level of ā€œpinkaliciousnessā€ achieved!

After a quick pit-stop at a lovely cafe where I enjoyed a (pink) iced latte, I headed over to Barneys New York ā€“ just because the windows are simply exquisite. Itā€™s a whole other level of luxury! Iā€™ve never seen so many incredible clothes. They even had a display featuring vintage designer gowns from the 1920s, a feast for the eyes, let me tell you. The colour scheme was pure perfection - silk slips, floor-length velvet, feathers and velvet ribbons - all in the most delicate shades of pink, blush and cream! Oh my! You'd be forgiven for thinking you'd stumbled into a vintage couture film set. I can still practically hear "Singing in the Rain" in my mind!

Taking the Subway to Adventure

With my shopping bags laden, I hit the subway ā€“ New Yorkā€™s trusty mode of transport, where the vibrant rhythm of the city truly comes alive! I love the sense of shared energy. Itā€™s like a collective heartbeat, pulsating through the tunnels and spilling out onto the bustling city streets!

I took the train to the Empire State Building, just a short ride from where I was staying. I adore those iconic, twinkling lights that adorn the skyscrapers at night, especially in the autumn with the leaves starting to turn! Standing up at the top of the building and looking down, gazing out across the dazzling cityscape... it makes you feel as if you could touch the stars! The lights create this magical illusion, like you are on stage yourself and the city is your audience!

A Romantic Stroll with a View

The city, by night, really shines, donā€™t you agree? This weekā€™s moon was absolutely gorgeous! It hung like a pale orb, throwing soft, silver light onto everything like a fairy godmother's spell. After all my adventures, it was time to put on my favourite pink tutu ā€“ I do like to celebrate my achievements ā€“ and head down to Bryant Park for a romantic stroll. I have to admit, a pink tutu against a cityscape background really gives my Instagram feed that little ā€œextraā€, if you catch my drift.

The autumn breeze, carrying the crisp scent of pine, whipped my tulle gently. Bryant Park was a scene of pure magic, a twinkling haven amidst the chaos of city life. It's almost surreal to feel that sense of calm amidst all the activity. I watched the couples twirling, enjoying their dates, and the children running around, laughing and giggling, Their simple joys were such a delight to observe, a gentle reminder that even amidst the fast pace of urban living, a sense of magic still survives!

Dancing Through New York

And because, darling, Iā€™m always up for some movement, I booked a couple of ballet classes, one in the heart of Manhattan, right beside Central Park and another by the East River ā€“ the views were breathtaking. My class in Manhattan was a traditional ballet class, perfect for getting those ballet muscles fired up. There were people from all over the world - so fascinating and inspiring! The diversity of people just makes New York so captivating. The second class, by the river, was more contemporary, which allowed for freer movement and a more expressive style of dancing. It felt so liberating.

But before I sign off, my darlings, I wanted to tell you all about a particularly delicious find, a little gem of a restaurant nestled amidst the city streets! I popped in for dinner on Wednesday, the perfect mid-week treat. They had a spectacular pink and white theme... from the chinaware and linen to the flowers on each table... It was absolutely delightful! Of course, they had pink cocktails! It was the perfect location to soak up all the city vibes and let my tutu take centre stage!

So, darlings, thatā€™s a little peek into my latest adventures in the dazzling, ever-changing city of New York! Next week, Iā€™m thinking a trip to Brooklyn Bridge for a few photo shoots... maybe a ballet session in Central Park. I will keep you posted.

As ever, remember my little message to the world...

Wear your pink tutu and let your inner ballerina shine!

Until next Monday! Emma
