Pink Tutu Blog: New York City - Monday 3rd December 2018 - Post #1226

Oh darling, New York City is simply magic! It’s been another whirlwind week in the Big Apple, a week of waltzing through glittering boutiques, pirouetting through the snow-kissed streets, and of course, attending the most incredible ballet shows.

Let’s take a little trip down memory lane, shall we? Buckle up, my loves, it's going to be a long one.

This week has been a full-on dance marathon! Monday was a real ballet blur as I started the day with a masterclass in classical ballet at the renowned Steps on Broadway dance studio. It was an absolute delight to feel the wood floors beneath my pink satin pointe shoes, the air thick with the scent of sweat and dedication.

For a post-ballet treat, I ventured into the delightful neighbourhood of Greenwich Village. After all, who can resist a little bit of bohemian charm? The streets were buzzing with life - buskers playing soulful melodies, artists sketching vibrant portraits, and locals sipping cappuccinos in charming cafes. I fell head over heels for a little vintage clothing store tucked away on a cobbled street. I snagged the most darling pink beret, which was simply screaming to be paired with my beloved tutu, and I can’t wait to show you all how it looks.

The rest of the week flew by like a twirling ballerina, and soon I was stepping out to enjoy a beautiful, sparkling December evening. This is when New York City truly shines. It was like something out of a ballet – shimmering lights reflecting off the snow-dusted sidewalks, and the city pulsating with a captivating energy.

Tuesday evening found me nestled amongst a throng of excited theatre-goers, at the iconic Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The evening was dedicated to the timeless beauty of “The Nutcracker”. Let’s just say, my love for Tchaikovsky reached an entirely new level! And to top it off, I got a sneaky peak behind the scenes at the magical world of ballet.

It was fascinating to meet some of the incredible dancers – real-life ballerinas! I picked their brains about their routines, training techniques and all the drama that unfolds behind the curtain. Did you know that their warm-up routines can sometimes be as rigorous as the actual performance?

The costumes were just divine! The ballerinas truly looked like fairytale characters, dancing under a breathtaking chandelier. They seemed to be floating on air, defying gravity, like delicate snowflakes. The production itself was utterly captivating. The costumes, the music, the dancers... it all painted such an ethereal picture, transporting me into a magical, festive world of Sugarplum fairies, toy soldiers, and snow flakes.

To end my New York week, I whisked myself away on an enchanting metro ride to see the "Holiday Windows" at Bergdorf Goodman. My dear friend Mary, an interior designer from London, always reminds me to make a trip over to these wonderful display windows every December. You see, she told me about them many years ago and since then I always ensure they’re on my must-do list for every December trip. These beautifully curated displays, are a kaleidoscope of whimsical artistry, telling stories that truly capture the heart of Christmas, it’s like walking into a glamorous winter wonderland! It was simply too good not to share on Instagram. (Have you checked out my Instagram yet? @PinkTutuEmma)

To conclude my trip I dined in style, experiencing a delightful evening at one of New York City’s chicest Italian restaurants. I felt like a princess (and not a ballet princess but the kind who is wined and dined by a handsome Prince!) and tucked into an absolutely decadent plate of Spaghetti alla Carbonara. I’ll admit, my dinner was possibly just as impressive as any dance performance. It was the perfect way to end the most enchanting and glamorous week.

And what else? Did I tell you that the pink tutu is taking New York by storm? I can’t even go to the corner shop for a bagel without catching a glimpse of someone with a touch of pink tutu charm in their outfit.

To end this long but exciting blog, let me remind you - Pink tutus have a special magic about them. Remember to let your inner ballerina shine, whatever you're doing and whatever city you are in. After all, who needs to just “wear pink,” when you can don a magical tutu?

I'm now off to Derbyshire, England, for a couple of weeks but fear not, my lovely readers! My Pink Tutu Blog adventures continue on this website, www.pink-tutu.com every Monday. I'm taking bookings now for my “Pink Tutu Workshop,” where I can help you create your own dream tutu for every occasion, even that office Christmas party.

Until next Monday, darlings!

Much love, Emma xoxo
