Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1229 - Twirling Through the Big Apple

Hello my darling readers!

This week’s Pink Tutu blog finds me in the glittering heart of New York City, the Big Apple, the concrete jungle, whatever you want to call it, I’m absolutely smitten! It’s a place that truly has it all: a heady mix of history, culture, shopping, and a buzz that just can’t be replicated anywhere else. I’m living in a state of pure wonder, with my tutu practically twirling on its own from pure excitement!

And I couldn't have picked a better time to visit. The Christmas spirit is thick in the air, New York City is positively glowing, and I can almost hear the music from the various Christmas markets as I sip my festive latte! There are twinkling lights and beautifully decorated trees on every corner, plus the most stunning Christmas displays I’ve ever seen. My little pink heart is positively exploding with delight!

Of course, a trip to New York City isn't complete without seeing some Broadway shows. And my goodness, have I been indulging myself! This week, I've caught a delightful production of 'Wicked', where the green lady of Oz truly captivated my attention with her voice and storytelling! I nearly burst into a spontaneous pirouette in the middle of the auditorium when 'Defying Gravity' soared through the air.

Speaking of which, let's talk tutus. It’s been tricky trying to pick which tutu is best suited for the city’s streets, because, to be perfectly honest, I love them all. But I decided to take a cue from the dazzling and colorful displays of Times Square, and opted for my bright pink, sparkly, twirling delight, that truly pops amidst the hustle and bustle of this metropolis. I even tried a tutu inspired by the snow, opting for my silvery sequin version, and I felt like a genuine winter fairy!

While I absolutely adore seeing Broadway, no trip to New York City is complete without a visit to the American Ballet Theatre, one of the world's leading ballet companies. To step into that beautiful theater with its incredible energy was a dream come true. The dancers were incredible! I felt myself transported to a whole new world of artistry, with each movement of their graceful bodies. I may be biased, but ballet really is a form of art unlike any other. And if you ever find yourself in New York City, it’s an experience you truly should not miss.

In addition to the performances, my love of ballet led me to one of New York City's oldest ballet studios. Imagine, this studio is where ballet royalty has danced – just thinking about it sends shivers down my spine. And, despite my tired legs after a weekend of exploring, I couldn't resist squeezing in a ballet class at this hallowed space. It's all about connecting to the history of ballet and embracing the magic that it holds. And trust me, my tutus were twirling with excitement for the entire duration.

But it's not just ballet that fills my days in New York City. There's an unparalleled shopping experience here. From the legendary department stores, such as Bloomingdale's and Macy's, where I've been spending an obscene amount of time, to the charming little boutiques nestled in every nook and cranny. You really can find everything from couture pieces to adorable pink ballet shoes and accessories! I couldn’t leave without a few new tutus of course! Oh, the joys!

And speaking of the joys, can we talk about the subway? It might seem daunting at first, especially if you're a tutu-wearing, ballet-loving English girl, but it's such a great way to see the city! It's always a fun adventure to see the faces around me, everyone moving about with such a sense of purpose. I must admit I find myself doing impromptu pirouettes in the station, especially as everyone's busy rushing by. Luckily, it always elicits smiles!

To fuel all my shopping adventures and twirling activities, the food in New York City is amazing! From the quintessential New York City bagel to delicious Italian dishes in Little Italy, to all the world’s cuisine, you'll find a delicious, fresh meal waiting around every corner. Plus, I find a lovely coffee shop on almost every street corner, with endless varieties of my favourite, latte.

New York City is a melting pot of culture and opportunity. You can find everything here, from Broadway shows and street performers to bustling art markets and world-renowned museums. There’s a special charm that comes with feeling as though every single corner of the city is bursting with something unique. It truly feels like the centre of the world!

One of the most inspiring parts about this vibrant city is its diverse community, from local dancers to Broadway stars, fashion designers, musicians, and entrepreneurs. Every person is striving for greatness and I'm truly inspired by everyone's passion, drive and creativity.

And as I sit here, sipping my coffee with my favourite pink tutu and planning for next week's New York City adventures, I feel a sense of gratitude. It’s a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by so much art and beauty, especially while experiencing all that New York City has to offer.

If you are ever visiting the Big Apple, do make sure you pay attention to those twinkling lights in the trees that appear on 24th December as it's Christmas Eve and a truly magical time of year. You can also watch the live tree light up on Rockefeller Centre if you’re lucky enough to be in town! And if you’re looking for a way to show the world your unique, vibrant, pink spirit, why not throw on a pink tutu, hop onto the subway, and take New York City by storm!

Remember, there's no need for a formal invitation, simply take a big step into this magical place and explore everything that it has to offer, it really is a whirlwind of experience and joy, guaranteed to leave you with lasting memories.

Stay fabulous, my darlings!

Yours in Pink Tutu,
