Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Edition - Post #1300

Monday, 4th May, 2020

Oh, darling! What a whirlwind weekend! New York City never disappoints, and this trip was no exception. I'm so excited to share it with you all. Now, before I get into the fabulously fun bits, grab yourself a cuppa and get comfy, because this post is going to be a long one!

From Derbyshire to the Big Apple - With a Pink Tutu in Tow!

It's been a while since I graced the streets of Manhattan with my presence. This weekend trip felt extra special because, well, it's New York! I simply can't get enough of this buzzing metropolis. From the dazzling lights and endless energy to the incredible theatre scene and, of course, the fabulous fashion, this city is my happy place.

Speaking of fabulous fashion... how else would I have arrived at my first ballet performance of the weekend? By Metro, naturally! But not just any metro ride, this time I went for full "ballet in motion" - you guessed it, I wore my favourite pink tutu! I'm so pleased to see that pink tutus are becoming increasingly popular - a dream come true! The way people smiled at me as I strutted through Grand Central was a delight.

The performance at the New York City Ballet was divine. It was an evening filled with grace, poise, and those magical moments that make your heart sing. This week, the performance featured Balanchine's **The Four Temperaments, which really made me ponder on the different ways people express themselves. The performance of Jerome Robbins’ Afternoon of a Faun was simply enchanting and truly captivated me. Of course, I did a little dance move of my own at the end! Let's just say my rendition of the swan lake "pas de deux" brought down the house - or, you know, just my local audience of two elderly ladies who couldn't stop giggling at my twirling!

Shopaholic in the City

Saturday was a day dedicated to one of my favourite pastimes – shopping! The shops in NYC have the most stunning outfits and, oh my goodness, the shoes! It was a challenge, I tell you, to resist the allure of every fabulous shoe shop. From SoHo to Greenwich Village, I sashayed through the streets like a graceful flamingo, seeking out the latest in designer trends and keeping my eye out for any special pink tutu bargains, just for you lovely lot!

I managed to score an amazing deal on a pair of rose-gold ballerina flats. They're perfect for dancing, strolling through the city, and everything in between!

Speaking of which, how much did I adore walking along the streets of New York City? From Times Square to the Met steps, the vibrancy of the streets and the ever-present bustle of this amazing city simply never fail to inspire me.

A Broadway Ballet: A Breathtaking Treat!

Sunday evening was for more of the amazing theatre. We watched "Moulin Rouge! The Musical." What a spectacular treat! Imagine the iconic movie, only magnified in every way imaginable. The sets were beyond incredible. And, that choreography! They truly nailed the dazzling beauty of the classic Can-Can. Even my dad, usually a little hard to please with musicals, found himself singing along to “Lady Marmalade” by the end! The music, the singing, the dancing - I was truly transported to another world.

My Favourite Place on Earth: Broadway

For me, there is nowhere in the world quite like Broadway. You have a choice between incredible theatrical productions, the world's best Broadway musicals, and live music everywhere. The sheer abundance of culture in one location is a treat for the soul.

Back to London... And On to the Next Adventure!

Although I could spend weeks exploring the city, it was time to head back to London and a very special ballet class for beginner dancers. Yes, I know it sounds strange, but I love teaching these eager beavers to embrace the magic of dance. Sometimes, you have to get back to basics!

Until next week, darlings!
