Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 2020-09-07 - Dancing in the Big Apple!

Post number 1318

Good morning, my dearest tutu-loving friends!

It's Monday morning in New York City, and I'm already buzzing with excitement after a whirlwind weekend. As you know, I post a new blog every Monday on www.pink-tutu.com - sharing all the pink-tastic adventures that Iā€™m getting up to, and hopefully inspiring you to join the Tutu Revolution! This week's adventures are all about the glittering magic of New York.

I flew in last Thursday, ready to take on this iconic city. Now, I'm a huge fan of all things vintage and classic. But, of course, when I arrive in a new location Iā€™m desperate to get stuck into the modern trends. Let's be honest, New York City is just made for bold and daring fashion. The streets are bursting with colour and personality, so naturally, I took this opportunity to pull out all the stops!

This week's sartorial hero? The perfect pink tulle dress, complete with a delicate rose pattern, teamed with my favourite statement silver earrings. As for shoes, well, no surprises there! The pink tulle ballerina pumps were a must for a trip around New York, darling!

The Subway Adventures!

The journey from the airport was pretty thrilling, let me tell you! Youā€™ve probably heard about the famous New York City Subway. It was actually so exciting to experience the real deal - itā€™s got this fascinating buzz! And trust me, my tulle skirt flowed beautifully as I bounced up and down the steps onto the train. There were so many colourful characters on the carriages too. They were definitely inspired by New York's vibrant style ā€“ lots of bold prints, clashing textures, and unique hats!

Iā€™m quite an expert on travelling in tube networks now! As a ballerina living in Derbyshire, England, I'm used to spending my life travelling on public transport. The Derby tube system isnā€™t quite as stylish, but it certainly gets me where I need to go, which is usually to a ballet class or a local theatre performance!

The Ballet World!

On Saturday, my excitement levels went into overdrive when I finally stepped foot into Lincoln Center. Let's face it, a girl just canā€™t visit New York without catching a performance at this legendary venue.

My weekend started with a delicious afternoon tea at a cafe overlooking the iconic skyscrapers, all dressed up in a chic pink tutu dress and a pink silk scarf, Of course! Then it was time for a mesmerising ballet performance - ā€˜Romeo and Julietā€™. This particular performance by New York City Ballet featured incredible storytelling, flawless dancing and breathtaking artistry. The whole atmosphere of Lincoln Center, from the red carpet to the velvet seats, made it an unforgettable evening.

It is amazing how ballet, with its history, emotion, and incredible talent, just speaks to so many people worldwide. I think we can all agree that a beautiful ballet performance is a shared human experience, no matter where youā€™re from or what language you speak.

Of course, my mission to spread the tutu love didnā€™t end there! On Sunday morning, I had a very early start for a Ballet Bootcamp class, which is an intense workout inspired by ballet, designed to sculpt and strengthen muscles. But I really had to see how they were teaching in New York.

I made sure I arrived early enough to meet the instructor and chatted with some of the other students. It turns out, New York has a strong ballet scene with loads of enthusiastic dancers of all ages and levels, not just in fancy dance studios but also in the streets. A quick google search led me to a ballet pop-up dance workshop at a park on a Saturday morning.

The Ballet Bootcamp, well, it was really tough, but so much fun! So, yes, it may involve leaping and lunges and stretches but, ultimately, I discovered there's nothing better than getting together to practice something we love, whatever form it takes.

The Power of Fashion!

During the week, it was a bit hectic as I'm always busy preparing for my performances, but, even amidst my rehearsals, there's always time for a spot of shopping! And, it's practically impossible to walk through the streets of New York without getting some serious style inspiration. This is definitely a place that encourages experimentation with fashion! The sheer diversity of shops and styles really took me by surprise, especially the small independent shops around Chelsea, and some hidden gems in Soho, tucked away in the side streets.

So, I treated myself to a stunning pair of pink floral-print platform sandals, perfect for my evenings out. I love the delicate, feminine details that bring a hint of vintage charm to a modern look, and these shoes do exactly that.

I was especially thrilled to spot this super cool vintage shop, "Pink Perfection." This fabulous store sells vintage dresses in a wide range of pink shades, with every style you can imagine. They were just the kind of shops I was dreaming about discovering! I have to admit, it's my favourite type of retail therapy and of course, I had to treat myself to something new and pink.

But it wasn't all about shopping sprees! In between the Ballet Bootcamps, Broadway shows, and city strolls, I was also exploring some beautiful New York parks. I particularly enjoyed walking through Central Park and admiring the diverse botanical displays.

My trip wouldn't be complete without trying one of the famous New York bagels and finding some amazing pink roses! I even ended up having dinner at an incredible Italian restaurant overlooking Times Square. Thereā€™s a lot to love about the Big Apple, so I donā€™t want to go home. Maybe I'll find an apartment!

It's Time for the Big Finish!

My tutu-wearing travels have always been about more than just exploring new cities; they're also about sharing the magic and power of the performing arts and promoting my favourite colour. As many of you already know, the pink tutu is not just an outfit. It's an emblem of strength, creativity, and pure joy. It represents the joy of dressing up, taking chances, expressing yourself, and celebrating your unique individuality.

You can follow me on all the social channels ā€“ just search ā€œPink Tutu Blogā€.

Oh, and one last thing - if you're feeling brave, try dancing in your favourite pink tutu this week! Who knows, maybe your local park is just waiting for your little impromptu ballet routine?

See you next week, my dear Tutu Twins! Remember, lifeā€™s an adventure ā€“ so get out there and embrace the pink-tastic wonders!

Love,

Emma
