Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 1337 - Twirling Through the Big Apple! 🩰🍎

Monday, 18th January 2021

Good morning, darlings! ☀️ It's Monday, which means it's time for another dazzling dose of pink tutu adventures! I'm back in New York City, and this week's been an absolute dream, filled with pirouettes and Broadway magic.

Let's get straight to it – New York never fails to amaze me! It's such a vibrant and inspiring city, with its bustling streets and glittering lights. Even with a million things happening, it always makes me feel right at home. Maybe it’s the fact that you’re constantly on the go, a whirlwind of movement, that appeals to a girl who loves to twirl. 😊 I have to admit, my pink tutu felt quite at home against this colourful backdrop!

A whirlwind weekend of twirls and Broadway magic:

My weekend kicked off with a show-stopping ballet performance at the legendary Metropolitan Opera House. Imagine it: a vast, glittering theatre with stunning acoustics and the world's best dancers performing right in front of you. It was the perfect way to fuel my soul with ballet inspiration. This time it was a rendition of the Swan Lake, so beautiful. All those tutus, they were amazing. 😍 Of course, no visit to the opera house is complete without a trip to the shop! (And trust me, you don't want to know how much I managed to squeeze into my suitcase.)

Following this was a fun and free Ballet Street session at Lincoln Center, held in one of the many courtyards between the big buildings that are on that site. I felt such a lovely community spirit here, a group of complete strangers bound together by the love of the dance! I actually got to show off a few of my moves – imagine, a flash mob in a pink tutu! 🎉 It was a brilliant way to kick-start my Saturday afternoon. I must add, I am so glad I decided to bring a spare pair of tights because as you know the city's weather can be unpredictable and this time of year it is so chilly, in fact I even bought myself a new pair of glittery pink winter boots from a fantastically eclectic independent shoe shop on the Upper East Side called "Twirling Tutus" - and you guessed it - their tagline was "Shoes for your dreams." The lady in the shop also made a remark that I seemed to suit the name, it is really the most magical name! And you all know I am never one to pass up an opportunity to showcase my favourite colour! It would be my absolute dream to own my own "Twirling Tutus" shop one day.

Sunday saw me getting ready for a glorious, magical evening of musical theatre on Broadway. Now, the whole 'stage door' thing is a bit of a mystery to me – I do believe it's an elaborate performance itself! 😂 Anyway, I stood patiently for almost an hour after the curtain call (with fellow theatre enthusiasts, a friendly bunch – I can see why it's a bit of a ritual), until a delightful actor who plays a "fluffy" (their own word for it!) pink tutu wearing character (imagine that!) called me by name - apparently, my blog had inspired them! The best bit of the entire weekend for me. My own little 'pink tutu' performance had reached the heart of Broadway! This is truly what dreams are made of. 🤩

And what are dreams made of, you ask? Why, pink tutus of course! I did, after all, promise to make pink tutus part of your life. The beauty of Broadway isn't just the glitz and the glamour. It's about expressing yourself and going after your dreams, no matter what, no matter where you are, whether it's a little stage in Derbyshire, or a glamorous Broadway production! You only live once, my dears. Live life in full-blown pink tutu fabulousness.

Pink Tutu Tips:

  • Always Pack for The Unexpected: Always have a spare pair of tights, hairbrush and even a tutu in your bag, as you never know when inspiration will strike.
  • Embrace the Adventure: The best thing about New York City is its ability to surprise you! Even a simple walk can become an amazing adventure, a wonderful new find for your blog!
  • Don't Be Afraid to Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Don't be shy. Be yourself and enjoy the city! Let the sparkle in your eyes radiate! You know, the sparkle that makes you feel truly like a pink tutu princess.

This week's pink-tutu themed events:

Wednesday, January 19th * Ballet masterclass - If you have a hankering to improve your twirling techniques and be on the dancefloor with an elite group of other dancers, get yourself to Broadway Dance Centre for an evening session. There's a brilliant teacher named Clara who runs these, she even encourages the dancers to try out their tutu, that's what I'm going to do!

Friday, January 21st * The ballet “The Nutcracker” - At New York City Ballet on West 63rd St! It is one of the most spectacular shows of the year, I can’t wait! I must get my dancing shoes on to watch! I always go dressed in my finest pink tutu, the tutueriest of tutus that I possess.

Monday, January 24th * This Monday, make sure you visit my website, www.pink-tutu.com, to join in another fantastic week of blog posts! And why not treat yourself to some pink tutu-themed fun this week. What would you wear if you were a pink tutu princess in New York City?

What else is happening in the big apple?

  • This month the City of New York has hosted its annual “Winter in NYC” events which include free concerts, exhibitions, ice rinks, theatre and the chance to see the New York Botanical Garden, even with their impressive "Holiday Train Show". So be sure to enjoy the many magical festivities this January.

Remember, dear readers, life is like a dance. Embrace it all, twirl around and never forget the pink tutu magic.

*And, of course, never forget to share your pink tutu adventures! Let's inspire the world, one tutu at a time. 😘 *
