Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Monday 18th October 2021 - Post Number 1376 🩰

Hello darlings!

It's Monday morning here in New York City, and I'm sitting in a charming little café just off Central Park, sipping on a latte and trying to work out how many pink tutus I can fit into my suitcase for my journey home to Derbyshire this week! It's been a whirlwind of a week, packed with all the fun and excitement New York has to offer, and I've got so much to share with you all!

This trip to New York has been absolutely fabulous. As always, it's been all about the pink tutus and the glitter! Of course, what trip to New York would be complete without a visit to the majestic Metropolitan Opera House, a veritable temple to the art of dance? I'm afraid my pink tutu may have drawn a few amused glances, but hey, a girl's gotta stand out, right?

Let me rewind a little for those who are new to the Pink Tutu world. I'm Emma, and I'm a ballerina from Derbyshire, England, who's obsessed with tutus and pink (no, not just obsessed, completely and utterly enamoured!) This blog, Pink Tutu Blog NYC, is my love letter to the city that never sleeps, and I update it every Monday. I fund my travels by performing in ballet productions, so I'm always on the lookout for a new stage to twirl on!

This past week has been an absolute whirlwind of events: from soaring over the city with breathtaking views from the top of the Empire State Building to finding the perfect vintage-inspired outfit in SoHo, to catching an unforgettable ballet performance at Lincoln Center, there was never a dull moment.

Fashion Fix:

My first stop on this trip was always going to be a pilgrimage to Fifth Avenue, New York's fashion mecca. Imagine, rows upon rows of luxurious boutiques bursting with every color, fabric, and style imaginable. I, of course, was on the hunt for some fabulous pink-tastic finds. Let me tell you, finding the perfect outfit in New York is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack! I spent a good couple of hours dodging the hordes of shoppers (ahem, I mean 'fashionistas') before stumbling upon the most adorable boutique, just off the beaten path. It was called 'The Twirling Ballerina' - destiny, perhaps? Needless to say, I came away with a treasure trove of outfits. Think billowing silk skirts in candy floss pink, velvet blouses that whispered elegance, and a stunning tulle tutu in a shade of blush pink that would make even a princess jealous.

I love pairing my tutu with more everyday looks. The juxtaposition between classic fashion pieces and this quintessential ballerina item is both chic and eye-catching. And you can't underestimate the impact of a splash of pink in your wardrobe, whether it's a vibrant statement piece or a delicate, playful accent.

Food For Thought:

It wouldn't be a trip to New York without indulging in its culinary delights! I absolutely love the food scene here. My favorite way to get around the city is by metro, especially after a delicious meal, so I get to observe the daily hustle and bustle through the windows.

From iconic street food vendors with their tempting smells and flavors, to Michelin-starred restaurants serving culinary masterpieces, there's something to tantalize every taste bud. And don't even get me started on the fabulous bakeries – croissants that melt in your mouth, colorful cupcakes bursting with sweetness, and my absolute favourite, New York-style cheesecake!

Ballet Bound:

Of course, no trip to New York City is complete without attending a spectacular ballet performance! On Tuesday night, I took myself to see the "American Ballet Theatre" at the magnificent Metropolitan Opera House. The elegance and precision of the dancers, the stunning costumes, and the heart-stopping choreography left me spellbound. I felt as if I was being whisked away to a fairytale world, and I swear I caught a few teary eyes amongst the audience, not from me, I hasten to add! I felt a deep pang of nostalgia for the world of ballet, for the dedication, discipline, and artistry that go into every performance. I'm lucky to be able to combine my love of fashion with my love of ballet. I'm determined to get every person to dance in pink tutus - why not, after all?

Speaking of performances, I just returned from a mesmerising night out in Times Square. A young ballerina, named Lily, performed a truly incredible street ballet show. Watching her move gracefully amidst the neon lights and the bustling crowds was a magical experience. The power and beauty of her dancing resonated throughout the square. And what was Lily's most defining costume element, you ask? Of course, you guessed it, a magnificent, dazzling pink tutu!

Exploring NYC:

The last few days have been dedicated to immersing myself in New York City's vibrant energy. I ventured into the enchanting neighbourhoods of Greenwich Village and the Lower East Side, marveling at the cobbled streets, quaint boutiques, and art galleries around every corner.

City Of Dreams

Every street in New York City is a tapestry woven with the stories of millions of people who come from all over the world, hoping to achieve their dreams. This melting pot of cultures and ambitions fills every corner with an electric buzz that is truly infectious. It’s hard to leave!

My mission:

As you may know, my mission in life is to get everyone in the world wearing pink tutus. You might be surprised, but the power of a tutu can be truly liberating. When you twirl in a pink tutu, you’re free to be yourself. You feel powerful, you feel confident, and you definitely stand out!
