Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1380 - New York City, New York - Monday 15th November 2021
Oh my, oh my! New York, you are absolutely phenomenal! I can't believe it's been a whole week since I landed in the Big Apple, and what a week it's been! From the glittering lights of Broadway to the stylish sidewalks of SoHo, this city truly does have it all.
As I sit here in my favourite pink tutu (of course!), my coffee warming my hands, I'm buzzing with memories. Remember when I was little and dreamt of dancing on a stage? It was a world away from the fields of Derbyshire, a place where dreams took flight, all thanks to my favourite pair of pink ballet shoes and the magical world of ballet. This trip is living every single one of those childhood dreams and more!
This week has been a whirlwind of shows, shopping and sightseeing. Every moment has been so colourful, exciting, and I'm already planning my next visit - oh, to live in this incredible city!
Friday night fever: A magical night at the theatre
I began my New York adventure on Friday night. After a delicious meal (which involved a lot of pasta, as you can imagine - a carb-loading session before all that dancing!), I headed to see "Moulin Rouge! The Musical". I have to say, the entire experience was utterly magical. The costumes were fabulous (especially the ones with feathers - always a win!), the music was incredible, and the story was simply heartwarming. It had me hooked from the first note.
Of course, no evening at the theatre would be complete without a little pink. My tutu, as you know, is a must-have wherever I go! And it certainly made an entrance that evening.
The ultimate Saturday retail therapy
Saturday was all about finding the perfect outfits for the week ahead! Starting with SoHo, the energy of the street is electric - you can almost feel the fashion in the air! From vintage shops with designer finds to quirky boutiques brimming with unique designs, I was spoilt for choice. You can't miss the fantastic shops on Fifth Avenue, especially Tiffany & Co. The bling really is stunning! And, of course, the windows at Saks Fifth Avenue, I always stop to admire those!
A tutu, after all, can only look so fabulous if there's a stylish ensemble to wear with it! You just know, right?
Subway shenanigans
Let's be honest, New York's metro is a sight to behold! The energy of the subway stations, the chatter, the bustle - you can feel the beating heart of this city beneath your feet! While I navigated its underground labyrinths with a pink tutu in tow, I was mesmerised. Every turn and twist reveals a new part of New York, a story etched into the very walls of the tunnels. And yes, I did take some pics! I might just share a "Subway Style" post this week! I bet you'd like to see those!
Sunday Brunch: All that jazz
My Sunday began with a scrumptious brunch at a cute little cafe on the Upper West Side. The food was delectable, but the real treat was the live jazz band playing. Their soulful tunes perfectly encapsulated the vibrant, bustling energy of New York. Oh, the atmosphere! It truly is a feeling you have to experience for yourself. I almost started to tap my feet... I really could have jumped onto the stage in my tutu and danced with them!
* Ballet Dreams: A night of elegance*
My Sunday evening culminated in the grand highlight of my week: I saw The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center! Now, let's be honest - it's one thing to be at the theatre, it's a whole other level when you're experiencing a legendary ballet company like New York City Ballet! I almost couldn't believe I was actually there! The energy was electric, I loved the dancing, and of course, I was completely swept away by the enchanting story.
It is my dream to dance on a stage like that someday, you know? In the meantime, I'll just have to make do with my little ballet performances back in the UK.
Keeping the pink tutu dream alive!
It may not be a sparkly princess tutu that twirls to Tchaikovsky, but even when I'm back in my small English village, I carry the pink tutu spirit with me. You can always tell when a day is going well by the fact that the pink tutu ends up on. It's my lucky tutu and reminds me to believe in my dreams, no matter what! Because, believe me, I'm more determined than ever to turn my passion into a full-time dance career - maybe I'll even make it onto that stage one day!
Now, what to wear tomorrow... I have a busy day of sightseeing ahead! Perhaps I'll go for a chic outfit with a dash of pink, so my tutu can enjoy a rest day. But of course, that might just make it harder to dance in!
*Have a lovely week! *
