Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Edition - Post #1387 - Monday, 2022-01-03

New York City, darling!

Can you believe it’s January already? Feels like just yesterday we were ringing in the new year, swirling and twirling under a shower of glitter in my favourite pink tutu. This week, I'm bringing you a peek into my magical adventure in the Big Apple. This fabulous city never fails to inspire, and of course, I wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu girl without sharing it with you!

So, what's a pink tutu-wearing ballerina doing in New York City? Let's just say I’m a big fan of combining ballet, travel, and my own unique fashion sense. As a budding professional, performing around the city, I'm fortunate enough to combine my passion with exploring new and exciting destinations. This week I've been swirling, pirouetteing, and shimmying around some of NYC's most fabulous sights.

Speaking of shimmying… oh darling! There's something about the energy in this city. Just walking along Fifth Avenue, feeling the vibrancy, the buzz, the incredible rush of life... it gets your heart pumping, and all you want to do is whirl around! And, of course, there's no better way to twirl in style than in a pink tutu.

This time I’m in my newest masterpiece. It's a dreamy concoction of the most vibrant shade of blush pink with shimmering silver embroidery. A classic tutu shape, just slightly fuller than usual, with a double layer of tulle. Honestly, it’s almost as though the tutu is catching all the magic in the air and sparkling with it. And wouldn’t you know it, the sunshine popped out right as I stepped onto the bustling streets of Times Square, creating a perfect pink and sunshine glow for my pictures! I simply cannot resist! I have to take a few snaps and share my twirling moments on Insta! It’s a must for every Pink Tutu girl.

Taking the Metro in Style

Now, as much as I love walking and taking in the incredible architecture of New York, there's also a real magic about travelling in the underground. Just picture it: me, in my favourite pink tutu, taking a scenic tour on the iconic NYC subway. People are looking at me - and who can blame them? I've seen a few confused expressions too! Some of them seem bemused. "Did that Pink Tutu Girl just hop on the subway?". You just can't deny that it brings a smile to everyone's faces - that’s what I like to see. A little pink sparkle makes a difference.

Of course, the highlight of the subway adventure was a spontaneous flash mob right in the middle of Grand Central Station! Suddenly, music started playing over the intercom, and a group of dancers in vibrant costumes launched into a captivating routine, inspired by modern ballet. The energy in the air was palpable, and even people rushing to catch their train couldn't help but tap their feet and grin. That's the power of dance! Even those most stoic city folk can't resist! A moment of pure delight that truly captured the vibrant spirit of New York. I swear I felt my pink tutu practically jumping for joy with excitement.

Ballet Performances & City Adventures

Talking about the power of dance, last night I was absolutely enchanted by a captivating performance at the American Ballet Theatre. I mean, who wouldn’t be! From the moment I saw the lights dim in the theatre, a hush falling over the entire audience as the stage lights blazed bright, it felt absolutely incredible. There were these beautiful costumes and intricate choreography, all done by an exceptionally talented troupe of dancers. I was completely mesmerized, transported right into the world of classical ballet, and all I could think was "wow, these performers are truly extraordinary, simply dazzling!". Their grace, strength and expressiveness just wowed me! It was as if I could feel their emotions right in my bones! It made me so proud to be part of the dance community and absolutely filled with excitement to work towards a career on stage.

And since I was in the neighbourhood of Times Square, I made the most of being so near to the legendary Broadway district! I indulged in some window-shopping at some of my favourite fashion stores, from Bergdorf Goodman to Bloomingdale's, with their spectacular displays, fabulous mannequins all dressed in fabulous outfits, and incredible window decorations! The atmosphere was buzzing, absolutely vibrant and inspiring! I saw something I simply could not resist. It's just so fabulous, darling. An utterly divine pair of high heeled pink ballet shoes. Perfect for a special occasion - let's just say I needed those in my life!

Then, I couldn’t resist a little treat of Broadway glitter. The sheer sparkle of the costumes in the musicals! Seeing the magic unfold before my very eyes, right in front of the stage... absolutely enchanting. It gave me some ideas for new Pink Tutu designs! Oh darling, you’re going to love it! And to top it all off, a truly exquisite performance of the iconic musical "Moulin Rouge"! This production blew me away! The colour! The costumes! The dancing! And let's not forget those fabulous feather boas! Oh darling! I just wanted to jump on stage with the performers.

But for today, I have other plans…

A Tutu Fashion Extravaganza at Central Park

New York has endless options. The city truly is an endless fountain of fashion, a wonderland for all those seeking something spectacular, exciting, stylish, chic, and fabulous! I was lucky enough to wander around, admiring the iconic landmarks. The beautiful skyline - just amazing, with skyscrapers reaching towards the heavens and creating this powerful image. A truly incredible visual spectacle! I was so captivated! And since I’m in a pink-tutu state of mind, how could I possibly miss the Central Park ice rink? Yes, I am that girl. The one twirling on ice, enjoying the exhilarating feeling of the wind blowing through my hair and of course, my glorious pink tutu gracefully catching the sunshine! It is so exhilarating! The perfect New York tutu moment.

Then I couldn’t resist going into a fab café for afternoon tea. The cutest little café! Delicious cakes, heavenly tea, all surrounded by elegant surroundings! There’s nothing quite like enjoying a moment like this!

Then it was on to exploring the shops for the perfect souvenir to take back to Derbyshire. Of course, a tutu souvenir shop would be the dream, but so far I have been unsuccessful. Maybe I need to step up my search.

I did manage to find a delightful, chic little boutique on a side street off Broadway where I found a fantastic pair of feather earrings. They’re a fabulous vibrant magenta pink. Oh darling, I was so excited! They go perfectly with my latest pink tutu ensemble. It seems this New York adventure has really given my sense of style an extra twirl!

You can see, the pink-tutu world is bursting with fabulous things! I cannot wait for you to read next week's Pink Tutu blog to find out all about my latest ballet adventure. Until then, be sure to send me your latest pink-tutu fashion tips! I can’t wait to hear from you all, darling! You’re all truly fabulous! Until next Monday! Have a lovely week and remember to spread some pink tutu love wherever you are.

Love and sparkles,

Emma
