Hello darlings! Emma here, bringing you another instalment from my adventures in the magical metropolis of New York City. This week, the sun was shining brighter than usual, sparkling off the glass towers and setting the city alight with an electric buzz of energy. Oh, and of course, I was in the middle of it all, swirling, twirling, and yes, even wearing my signature pink tutu!
This Monday was particularly special. I’m not going to lie, I was up before dawn, bouncing out of bed with an infectious grin on my face and a pink-tinged vision of Broadway in my head. Today, I was seeing the ‘Moulin Rouge!’ musical on Broadway - I simply couldn’t miss it!
From Derbyshire to the Big Apple:
The journey to NYC is a whirlwind of excitement for me every time. I travel by the mighty Metro. It’s always so glamorous, particularly as a ballerina - you never know who you might see rushing for the train! It’s a fashion runway of its own. I even saw a guy wearing a pink tutu, which made my heart do a happy little pirouette! 😉 It's a reminder that, whether in New York or Derbyshire, the pink tutu spirit is alive and well.
The Magical World of 'Moulin Rouge!'
Let’s be honest, darling - ‘Moulin Rouge!’ was utterly sensational. Imagine a swirling, dazzling feast for the senses with singing, dancing, spectacular costumes, and some serious sequins. They call it “spectacular,” but honestly, it was even better than that. My heart sang alongside the incredible cast. You’ll never forget that soaring rendition of “Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend”.
I found myself swaying to the music and tapping my toes in the aisle - what’s a girl to do when you have a pink tutu on, surrounded by musical magic?! 💃🏼 I left the theatre buzzing with inspiration, the memory of the spectacle seared onto my soul.
From Theatre to Trend-Setting
Naturally, I had to celebrate such an evening with some retail therapy. The best way to soak up the spirit of New York is through the windows of the legendary boutiques, where every corner overflows with creativity. I popped into a little boutique in the heart of SoHo. My eyes widened at the abundance of stylish clothes. I even spotted a tutu-like tulle skirt, it was the perfect way to add some pink-tutu flair to my already colourful wardrobe.
Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without exploring the vintage clothing scene. I was in heaven wandering through the racks of second-hand finds - think silk scarves, colourful hats, and, of course, plenty of fabulous dresses. I just know I’ll be whipping up a fabulous new look from my latest finds.
Pink Tutu Dance Extravaganza:
To keep my body as beautiful as the city I’m exploring, I spent the rest of my day in my usual haunt – a fantastic dance studio called the New York City Ballet Center.
Let’s face it, ballet is my true passion and there's no better way to experience this city than from the stage of a performance. There are some incredibly talented people here.
This week, my teacher was an American-Russian ballet dancer who taught us a fantastic variation of a classic piece - so much pirouette practice, it was exhausting, but in a good way! You know, darling, dancing through New York is just like gliding through a ballet - elegant, rhythmic, and, yes, absolutely joyful!

Darling, remember that wearing a pink tutu is about embracing the joy, creativity, and confidence it embodies. Think of the impact you can make just by stepping outside and allowing your own pink tutu spirit to shine. So go ahead, take a leap of faith! I believe in you! 💕
