Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 2023-07-17 - Dancing in the City that Never Sleeps (Post #1467)
Hello darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing blogger, reporting live from the Big Apple! I’m officially back in the City that Never Sleeps, and my tutu is practically vibrating with excitement! You guys, this is my third time in NYC, but each time it feels like a whole new adventure, full of sparkly lights, glamorous people and a non-stop whirlwind of fashion and culture. I mean, even the pigeons are chic in this town! And don't get me started on the pastries... 🧁
This week’s journey started in the most classic way: I arrived at the iconic Penn Station, my heart already leaping to the rhythm of the city’s pulse. I must say, travelling by the Metro never ceases to fascinate me. This subterranean world is so vibrant with its kaleidoscope of humanity - businessmen with their briefcase and hurried steps, students sharing a joke and a cheeky peck, and me, a whimsical pink-clad ballet enthusiast, ready to take on New York one tutu pirouette at a time.
My little suitcase, stuffed to the brim with everything from my ballet leotard (for some impromptu practice at the park, of course!) to my favourite pair of pink heels, was happily wheeled along as I navigated the chaotic yet exhilarating tunnels, where every corner promises an unexpected spectacle.
My flat in the Lower East Side is adorable, just like the one from that classic movie (you know the one!). And, just like that classic movie, it's overflowing with charming flaws: there’s a persistent leak in the bathroom sink (which I think I’m in love with – so bohemian!). The best part? The view from my window! Imagine – me, in my fluffy pink tutu, enjoying a cuppa in the morning, watching the city wake up while the first rays of dawn cast a magical glow over the skyscrapers. A real scene straight out of a musical!
And, wouldn’t you know it, the city's energy perfectly mirrored the schedule I have for this week. This Monday alone has been filled to the brim with a captivating mixture of fashion, art and the very heart and soul of this incredible city.
Firstly, I started the day with a delicious brunch at an absolutely delightful little café in Soho, called "Sweet Surrender". The food was heavenly and their pink-tinted floral decor completely stole my heart. You've got to know, I felt like I stepped right into a vintage Parisian patisserie. I even met this delightful lady, who had the cutest little grey kitten curled up in her handbag - definitely a "NYC Moment"!
From there, I wandered over to the Meatpacking District for a spot of afternoon shopping. Oh my word, I was in a state of pure bliss. New York fashion never disappoints. From the chic vintage stores brimming with designer treasures, to the independent boutiques showcasing up-and-coming designers, I found myself mesmerized by the creative spirit oozing from every shop window. Of course, I didn't leave without treating myself to a little something special: a gorgeous pink lace scarf that reminded me of a ballerina's delicate tutu! 🩰
Then, I had the pleasure of attending a truly magnificent performance of “The Nutcracker” at Lincoln Center. The exquisite dancers moved with such grace and power, and their vibrant costumes practically danced off the stage! It reminded me of why I fell in love with ballet in the first place – the way it blends athleticism and art, storytelling and beauty, all into a breathtaking performance. It’s the perfect way to experience the magic of New York!
And what a day for a delicious pink sunset on the iconic High Line! This elevated park feels like a little pocket of nature in the heart of the city, a perfect place to enjoy the evening light painting the sky in soft hues of pink. A little moment to pause and soak in the city’s incredible energy, and the incredible people watching - just a part of the charm of this place.
So, that, my lovelies, was a little snippet of my very first day back in the city. You guys know I’m living my best life here, discovering new hidden gems and indulging in the beauty and brilliance of this dynamic metropolis. Don’t forget, keep up to date with all my New York City adventures here on the www.pink-tutu.com website, each and every Monday!
Now, a little note about what's happening later this week
On Tuesday, I’m diving headfirst into the world of street art, which I’m finding incredibly inspiring, particularly the murals with their bold colours and dramatic visuals. There's something incredibly magical about finding beauty in unexpected places – a real reminder that life, just like New York, is an artistic masterpiece.
Wednesday will see me immersed in a ballet class at the renowned Steps on Broadway dance studio, where I can practice my pirouettes with a little less worry about falling onto the subway tracks (though let's be honest, the temptation to pirouette on the platform was VERY real!). My plan? Try a couple of moves in my favourite pink tutu for extra flair. After all, what's life without a bit of sparkle and a dash of tutu-power?
And speaking of sparkles and power, Thursday I’m finally experiencing a real Broadway performance! My dreams have always danced in rhythm with Broadway, and you just can't imagine my excitement. The show is a beloved classic – “Chicago”! 🎤 This dazzling musical, brimming with talent and a captivating story, has me absolutely buzzing with anticipation! Maybe I can even incorporate a few moves from the musical into my tutu routine.
Oh, and remember, all of these incredible experiences are fuelled by my own ballet performances. You guys wouldn’t believe the dedication that goes into every single performance! My tutu spins, and my passion flows! But all that effort makes these city adventures all the more rewarding, as if I’m rewarding myself with my own personal dance with the city itself.
Finally, I’ll finish up my New York City stay with a stroll through Central Park on Friday. It’s a classic! Who doesn’t love Central Park on a sunny day? And with that perfect dose of greenery, the park’s magic never fails to revitalise my senses, and serves as a peaceful retreat after the bustling city week.
I promise to keep you updated with everything! From my thoughts on “Chicago” to my favourite places to pick up a pink latte, and perhaps even a little behind-the-scenes glimpse of a tutu-themed photoshoot… 📸 You just know I won't leave New York without a photoshoot in Central Park, complete with tutu, my trusty ballet shoes, and a whole lot of pink!
You're going to be hearing from me on my website all week, with my Instagram stories giving you a real time feel of what life is like with a pink tutu and my love for ballet in the city!
