Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 2023-09-11 - New York, New York, I'm in love with you! 🩰💖

Hello my gorgeous fellow tutu-lovers! Welcome to post number 1475 on the Pink Tutu Blog NYC - it's Monday and I'm back from a whirlwind weekend in the city that never sleeps. It's hard to believe this blog is almost 1500 posts in, but it feels like we've been twirling together through the city since forever!

This week I'm wearing a dreamy lavender tulle tutu, with matching lavender lace gloves and a fluffy pink feather boa draped over my shoulders. It's my "New York Chic" look for today – elegant but fun, perfect for all the excitement this amazing city throws my way. Speaking of exciting, let's jump straight into what I got up to this weekend...

A Ballet Lover's Dream Come True: The Metropolitan Opera House

This past weekend, I experienced one of my biggest dreams: seeing a ballet performance at the Metropolitan Opera House. Oh my goodness, it was pure magic! From the grandeur of the building itself – the towering marble facade, the intricate chandeliers, and the hushed, anticipatory buzz of the crowd – it was like stepping into a fairy tale. And then the performance began! It was a dazzling rendition of “Swan Lake” – I felt completely swept away by the grace of the dancers, the haunting beauty of the music, and the vibrant storytelling.

I was utterly captivated by the prima ballerina, her movements so precise, yet filled with such emotion. Every extension, every pirouette, every glance was pure poetry in motion. And the swans? Oh, the swans! Their elegant, synchronised choreography brought tears to my eyes. I can still feel the goosebumps! 🦢✨

After the performance, I wandered through the opera house, marvelling at the exquisite paintings on the ceiling and admiring the sheer scale and splendour of the whole building.

Shop 'Til You Drop at the Met

Right next to the Metropolitan Opera House, I found the absolute best way to spend some time after a fantastic show - the Metropolitan Museum of Art! I couldn’t resist taking a trip around this wonderful museum, filled with ancient history, art from every era and part of the globe, and oh so much inspiration! I felt so happy surrounded by beauty from all different times, with works of art by every famous painter imaginable – Monet, Manet, Van Gogh... you name it, they’ve got it. I even spotted a Monet water lily painting, just like the one in my very own living room back in Derbyshire! I bought a stunning hand-painted fan in the museum gift shop, it matches my pink feather boa perfectly! 🛍️💖

A Stroll Through Central Park

New York is filled with so much beautiful greenery – every block feels like a different world! Central Park is truly an oasis within the concrete jungle. I wandered through its meandering paths, marvelling at the towering trees and the vibrant blooms. It's the perfect place for a peaceful stroll and to escape the bustle of the city for a little while.

While enjoying a delightful picnic on a bench under a giant oak tree, I bumped into a fellow tutu-lover – a sweet lady named Sarah. She was wearing a classic white tutu with sparkling silver sequined trim. We got chatting about our love for tutus and Sarah shared how she’s taken to wearing tutus every Sunday morning for her Central Park walks. It's so refreshing to see other people embrace their unique style. Who knew my passion for tutus could lead to a little spontaneous tutu party in the middle of Central Park?! 💃🏻🎉

A Taste of the City: Times Square, Broadway, and a Delicious Bite

A trip to New York is never complete without visiting Times Square. The vibrant, neon lights and bustling crowds create an electric energy that's impossible to ignore.

I caught a glimpse of one of the iconic Broadway musicals, “The Phantom of the Opera” - even watching just from outside the theatre, you can tell the sheer energy and emotion that are a hallmark of these shows! 🎭

Before heading home for a well-deserved rest after this busy weekend, I enjoyed a delightful dinner at an adorable little restaurant near Times Square. It was the most delicious pizza I’ve ever tasted – even though I did indulge in a scoop of vanilla gelato for dessert (it's New York, what can I say?!).

Subway Adventures and Pink Tutu Adventures

No visit to New York is complete without navigating the city's subway system. I love hopping on the train – the hustle and bustle, the fascinating faces around me, and the thrill of navigating its labyrinthine tunnels. Of course, my tutu, naturally, causes a lot of giggles and double takes from fellow commuters – and for that, I love it! I always find it heartwarming when a kid will come up and ask me if I'm a real ballerina, and it always gives me such joy to answer a resounding YES!

This week’s pink tutu adventures were especially exciting - as soon as I arrived at Penn Station on Friday, I spied a street artist selling his drawings right by the station. I was amazed by the art, especially one with a bold, beautiful ballerina in the centre! As a tutu lover, I simply couldn't leave without this piece! My New York flat will soon have a new, stunning wall art piece - I’m so excited!

Pink Tutu Power!

This week's travels are a reminder that no matter where we go, there's always a little pink tutu magic in the air. Keep spreading your pink tutu vibes – you never know who you'll inspire. And always remember, a tutu can take you anywhere you want to go!

Until next week,

Emma
