Pink Tutu Blog NYC #1474: Twirling Through the Big Apple!

Hello my darling readers! It’s Emma here, and I’m absolutely buzzing to be back with you all for another week of #PinkTutuBlogNYC!

I'm currently writing this from my quaint little apartment in Brooklyn, my tutu hanging regally on the wardrobe door. I know, I know, you're probably thinking "Brooklyn? Emma, you're a little too chic for Brooklyn," but hear me out! I’ve found this charming, cobblestone neighbourhood with a plethora of cafes, vintage boutiques, and hidden parks. It’s like a whimsical wonderland for a pink-loving ballerina like myself.

This past week was an absolute dream, and as usual, it began with a graceful journey aboard the New York City subway. It's a magical thing, honestly! A vast underground network that whizzes you around this captivating city, allowing you to experience its hidden corners and hidden wonders. Plus, with a few extra swishes of my tulle skirt, I managed to make it look as if I were on my own private, pink tutu ballet show!

Speaking of ballet shows, my schedule is jam-packed with them! As you all know, I fund my New York City adventures with my ballet performances. Every night I gracefully pirouette onto the stage, radiating joy and elegance, earning my way to indulge in all the sights, sounds and fashions the city has to offer. Last night was particularly special – a spectacular production of “The Nutcracker,” set at Lincoln Center, a jewel of New York City! Seeing it performed on such a grand stage truly brought out the childlike wonder within me. Watching those exquisite dancers, their limbs as graceful as willows in a gentle breeze, their tutus swirling with magical movements...it was absolutely mesmerising.

The week flew by in a flurry of sequins and swirling tulle. Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without some retail therapy. My first stop was a quaint vintage store in the East Village where I unearthed a collection of 50s petticoats, the perfect underlayer for my burgeoning tutu collection. And what better way to accessorize a tutu than with a vibrant vintage fascinator? I found an absolute stunner at a tiny boutique tucked away on a cobbled side street. This little hat is adorned with a glorious array of vibrant feathers and pearls; it looks as if it hopped straight off a 1940s Hollywood movie set. It truly elevates any outfit, transforming even the most ordinary day into an occasion!

Naturally, my New York City journey wouldn’t be complete without taking in a Broadway show. I settled on the acclaimed musical “Wicked”, a story about two girls with remarkable, yet polarising, talents, their friendship a fascinating story woven with catchy tunes and dazzling costumes. It left me spellbound, and I was left humming its tunes all week!

Saturday's Fashion Flair:

One of my favourite things about this city is its incredible fashion scene! There's so much inspiration around every corner, from street style to couture. I couldn't resist capturing the fashionable people of New York with my trusty vintage camera.

Firstly, a young woman strutted past in a vintage Chanel suit – it was sharp and timeless! She effortlessly matched her pastel pink coat to her chic, pink polka-dot blouse – and I just couldn’t resist asking to capture the sartorial elegance of this delightful ensemble for you all.

And then there was this street performer! Dressed in a dazzling costume resembling a peacock with feathers that trailed on the pavement, he was quite the sight! His performance was filled with so much charisma, the energy on the street seemed to ripple in his wake. The way his outfit rippled with every move... well, let’s just say it put my tutu to shame!

And lastly, here are a few things that are happening in NYC on September 4th

  • Manhattanhenge

Every year, two sunsets in Manhattan, and two sunrises, will have the setting sun aligned perfectly with the streets of Manhattan, creating a spectacular, breathtaking moment that must be seen to be believed! It’s quite a treat to see the city's buildings bathed in a golden glow! This magical moment can happen twice a year and today’s the day for it! Don’t forget your cameras!

  • Live at the Garden – New York Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Catch the New York Mets at their home stadium, Citi Field, as they battle the St. Louis Cardinals in a thrilling, captivating sporting encounter. Don’t forget to root for the home team – after all, those New York Mets fans are some of the loudest and proudest in the world!

  • Broadway in Bryant Park

Experience Broadway magic in the heart of Midtown! Every Wednesday, free outdoor performances of popular musicals captivate New Yorkers, from the first to the last seat! A vibrant cast, accompanied by live music and magnificent costumes, fills the city’s air with captivating music and magical moments. This evening’s performance is “On Your Feet”, the life-affirming story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan. I hear it’s a dazzling show, full of colour, light and the contagious rhythm of Cuban music. If you happen to be in the city, you can’t miss this opportunity!

I know that sounds like a lot, and you’re right! I'm sure there are countless other treasures and events happening throughout the city today, and every day, as well. You know me, I'm always up for an adventure! This is truly a city of enchantment. I'm excited to see what exciting escapades await in the coming week!

So, my dearest readers, remember: spread the pink tutu love! Keep dreaming big and dancing to the beat of your own hearts. I can't wait to see you all next Monday!

Until then, keep twirling!

Yours,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
