Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday, 2023-12-04 - Twirling Through the Big Apple!

#PinkTutuBlogNYC #1487

Good morning, darlings! Itā€™s Monday morning, and Iā€™m practically bouncing out of my skin with excitement as I type this, becauseā€¦guess where I am? Yep, you guessed it ā€“ I'm in the fabulous, fashionable, forever-inspiring city that never sleeps: New York City!

And let me tell you, itā€™s truly magical! The streets are abuzz with energy, and even the way they say "hello" has a different twirl to it! The iconic yellow cabs seem to be zipping around even faster, as if they too are infected with the city's contagious zest for life. It's infectious, that energy ā€“ I feel like I'm swirling with the very soul of New York!

This week, Iā€™m staying at a charming little hotel just a skip and a hop from Central Park. Yes, you heard that right ā€“ I am within touching distance of one of the most iconic parks in the world! The thought of picnics, afternoon strolls, and maybe even a little twirl in the shade of a towering tree is sending shivers down my spine, not of fear, but of absolute joy!

Speaking of twirls, I had the absolute pleasure of performing in a ballet concert at the Lincoln Center, last night. Oh my word, you wouldnā€™t believe the reception I got! The audience was a symphony of excited whispers, and the energy from the other dancers was exhilarating. This was my fifth show on this tour, and I have to say, the best thing about travelling and performing in different cities, besides getting to see a bit of the world, is meeting new people! Iā€™ve already swapped stories and exchanged secrets with dancers from all corners of the globe, from Texas to Tokyo! Weā€™ve been practicing our ballet moves, chatting about our favourite tutus, and enjoying each otherā€™s company like a family.

But, before I delve deeper into all that happened in this captivating city, let's address the tutu elephant in the room, shall we? This time, I went for a classic in my Pink Paradise tutu! It's an ethereal, romantic piece, crafted with delicate tulle layers that make it look as light as air, perfect for my big dance finale. Itā€™s the perfect combination of elegance and whimsy! And for my solo, I couldn't resist adorning it with a spray of pink sequins, creating a shimmering kaleidoscope as I danced across the stage.

*Now, letā€™s get into the heart of the matter ā€“ what have I been up to in the Big Apple? *

  • Fashion, Fashion, Fashion!

I had to say, one of my favourite things about New York is that it's an absolute fashionistaā€™s paradise! My first stop was naturally Saks Fifth Avenue ā€“ just to experience the iconic store for myself. I almost couldn't believe my eyes! The sheer abundance of luxury and opulence was unbelievable! I practically swam in a sea of dazzling designs!

There were racks upon racks of the most exquisite fabrics I have ever seen, shoes that looked like sculptures, and outfits that I only dreamed about wearing. The staff was wonderful too - oh so helpful and friendly! Itā€™s such a contrast from those department stores back home where you're often just seen as another number. Here, everyoneā€™s warm and inviting, which made my shopping experience all the more enjoyable.

Now, letā€™s be realistic. Itā€™s a bit hard to justify buying an outfit you could practically wear as a wedding gown for your first-night performance.

After my shopping spree at Saks, I decided to do what any sane, fashionable soul would do in New York ā€“ hit the Lower East Side to see if I could find some local, indie designers! It's just buzzing with independent spirit and creativity, just the way I like it! From quirky boutiques overflowing with colourful vintage dresses to handmade jewellery stores bursting with beautiful trinkets, thereā€™s something to ignite every fashion sense! I ended up with an absolutely gorgeous pair of handmade earrings that twinkled every time I moved! (You canā€™t deny that extra touch of magic when it comes to my performances, can you? Itā€™s all about creating that visual story! And my little ear ornaments definitely did the trick, wouldnā€™t you agree?

  • From the Boulevard to the Ballet!

Next, on my list? Of course, the Ballet! * I simply canā€™t be in New York and not take in a ballet performance! Iā€™ve got a ticket to the New York City Ballet at the David H Koch Theater on Broadway on Wednesday, and I cannot wait to be immersed in the world of classic choreography! I mean, how could you not want to experience that world-renowned beauty and artistry on the stage?

And that brings me to one of my absolute favourite places in the city: Broadway! I am, of course, loving the lights of Broadway and have spent some time simply walking along, enjoying the street performances! It's a delightful, energetic scene. And I have to admit, I just had to do a little ballet move in front of the TKTS booth just because!

  • The Underground Symphony

Another one of my New York loves is the subway! It's a chaotic ballet in itself - a rhythmic dance of people rushing to their destinations. I canā€™t help myself - I am always entranced by the rhythm of it all. Itā€™s quite honestly fascinating - every little detail makes a song in the urban symphony. Even with the crowded trains and the never-ending crowds, the whole scene makes me feel completely at home! And if I feel particularly adventurous (and, yes, there are times I do), I break out my portable speaker, play some of my favourite music, and I do a quick ballet move! The stares are priceless, I love that they have no idea where my wild, crazy side comes from! I just donā€™t feel fully ā€œaliveā€ unless I am twirling at least a few times a day!

  • This Time Around: Today!

As Iā€™m writing this blog, I am literally stepping off a yellow taxi (they do not lie - the city never sleeps, as Iā€™m sure you all know), heading into a delicious little cafe just a block away from my hotel. Itā€™s called ā€œPink Sugarā€! They have all the right elements for my afternoon treat: beautiful rose latte art and pastries that look like works of art themselves.

Speaking of art, today I'm spending some time exploring the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I mean, how can I leave this city without seeing it?! My main focus will be their special exhibition ā€˜The Renaissance & Beyondā€™!

Later on, I'm going to have dinner in Greenwich Village, a vibrant area that oozes charm with its bohemian cafes, bookstores, and street artists. I'll then take a leisurely stroll through Washington Square Park. Oh, it's like something out of a storybook! I love just how peaceful the park is - the sound of birdsong is such a contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city outside!

As I wrap up this blog post, I feel blessed to be dancing in New York! This city is just oozing with joy, with a contagious energy that never fades. I feel so inspired, and that feeling makes me want to encourage you to go out there, find that place that excites you, that gives you a little something extra. It's the place where you feel truly you. Maybe itā€™s dancing with strangers on the train, twirling down a street, or going to a Broadway show and finding a new appreciation for the world of dance. It might be shopping in a unique vintage store or just savouring a quiet cup of coffee, reflecting on your next adventure. No matter what it is, I hope you go out and do it. Do it with joy. Do it with passion.

Now, I'm off to find the perfect tutu for my ballet performance at the Lincoln Center tonight! The show must go on!

I'll leave you all with a little something to get you started:
