Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1492 - A Pink Tutu Pirouettes in the Big Apple

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, back with another peek into my fabulous, pink-filled life in the glorious metropolis that is New York City. This week, the 8th of January, felt like the start of a new year, all bright lights, dazzling possibilities, and, of course, lots and lots of pink!

Now, before I tell you all about the extraordinary events that unfolded in my week, let me take a moment to confess something. You see, I’m a bit of a creature of habit. It’s just that my habits involve travelling by metro in a dazzling pink tutu, so perhaps I can be forgiven? But this Monday morning, as the sunshine glinted off the Empire State Building, I decided to try something different.

Instead of my usual Central Park ballet practice, I decided to embark on a quest to find the perfect pink tulle for my latest tutu creation. Picture this, dear reader: me, waltzing down Fifth Avenue in a cloud of blush pink, my pink tutu swirling around my ankles, and my trusty vintage shopping bag clutched in my hand. Every single store I popped into felt like an adventure – the vibrant fabrics, the playful prints, and the sheer joy of discovering something uniquely me.

It wouldn’t be a true Emma adventure without a detour into one of my favourite tea rooms for a slice of Victoria sponge and a cup of Earl Grey. Imagine me, perched on a velvet chair, surrounded by pastel pink decor, surrounded by my favourite tea-time treats! I feel like I belong in one of those vintage, fairytale paintings.

With a renewed sense of purpose (and a healthy dose of pink tulle in my bag) I hopped back onto the subway. I felt a familiar warmth settle over me, as I looked at all the faces surrounding me: businessmen with their briefcases, students rushing to lectures, mothers holding onto their sleeping children… It was a tapestry of life in the heart of New York City. And as always, the symphony of clinking train doors and announcements resonated with me – a melody that was both exciting and comforting.

Later that afternoon, I treated myself to the most spectacular ballet show at the Metropolitan Opera. A breathtaking performance of ‘Giselle’, it left me with goosebumps and a longing for my own performance shoes. I felt an overwhelming sense of joy, watching these dancers perform with such grace and passion. Every twirl, every leap, was a masterpiece – truly captivating, making me dream of one day standing on that stage myself!

But I’m not just a dancer; I'm a designer too! And this week’s inspiration came from none other than New York itself! My current project is a ballet inspired by the vibrant energy and architectural wonders of this city. Imagine: the swaying skirts reflecting the shimmering lights of Times Square, a tutu that captures the grace of a skyscraper, and a bodice as bold as a taxi. Oh, darling, it's going to be spectacular!

So, you see, it’s not just about wearing pink tutus. It's about living with passion, finding beauty in the ordinary, and believing in your own dreams. And what better place to do that than in the city that never sleeps? I can't wait to see what adventures next week brings, but for now, I bid you adieu! Remember, to keep dreaming in pink, keep believing in yourself, and above all, don't forget to smile.

Until next Monday,
Emma xx

The Week Ahead - New York Adventures

The week ahead is packed with excitement! As always, there's a dazzling mix of ballets, musicals, and even a vintage market just screaming for my pink tutu presence!

Here are my highlights:

Tuesday, 9th January: * Afternoon Ballet class at the American Ballet Theatre Studios: I'm always ready for a good pirouette, especially at a studio as prestigious as this. The energy is always electric, and the instructors are exceptional. I’m always learning something new, and who knows, maybe even finding new inspiration for a pink tutu creation. I’m already looking forward to trying a few new combinations – after all, every dance session should feel like an improvisation.

Wednesday, 10th January:
* Afternoon: The Brooklyn Flea - Vintage and Designer Market: What’s a Pink Tutu blog post without a bit of shopping? And what better than browsing vintage finds and designer treasures in a beautiful outdoor market! It’s the perfect chance to unearth vintage treasures – a brooch with pink crystals perhaps, a 50’s poodle skirt to upcycle into a tutu, maybe even a pair of vintage ballet shoes!

Thursday, 11th January:
* Evening: The Nutcracker, Lincoln Centre: Oh, the Nutcracker! This festive, magical ballet always captures my imagination, transporting me to a world of twinkling lights, sugar plum fairies and a mischievous Mouse King.

Friday, 12th January: * Morning: New York Times Square: My darling readers, how can a Pink Tutu girl visit New York without venturing into Times Square? A vibrant, electric space where you can’t escape the hustle and bustle, and yet, where the dazzling lights illuminate the most dazzling of dreams. * Evening: Hairspray - Broadway Musical: The energy and spirit of this musical is always guaranteed to brighten my mood. It’s about finding your own style, letting loose, and celebrating everyone, in all their quirky, colourful glory!

Saturday, 13th January: * Morning: Central Park Winter wonderland: Even with the frosty weather, Central Park is always captivating. I love taking a long stroll through the snow-dusted landscapes, admiring the beauty of the frozen lake. Maybe I’ll even practice some graceful spins in the snow - what better way to get my creativity flowing?

Sunday, 14th January: * Afternoon: Broadway Show at The Majestic Theater: The Majestic is simply enchanting – I love feeling the energy in that space, soaking in the performance of the dancers, and watching stories unfold on stage! * Evening: Dinner in Greenwich Village: This charming part of Manhattan is filled with a lovely blend of Parisian cafes and old-school diners. This week, it's time to try some traditional New York eats - perhaps a delicious burger or a bagel with cream cheese.

That’s a glimpse of my week ahead! I'm feeling incredibly inspired and ready to embrace every pink and sparkly moment.
