Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1503 Monday 2024-03-25 - A Tutu-licious Trip Through the City That Never Sleeps

Good morning, my darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, bringing you all the latest from the city that never sleeps, New York City!

As the week begins, a little excitement fills the air. This Monday is all about a whirlwind of fun. The weather is crisp and bright, perfect for twirling in my favourite pink tutu – you know, the one with the layers of tulle that bounce like bubbles when I pirouette. Today’s schedule? Oh darling, let’s just say it’s a packed one, and all in the name of ballet and a little bit of New York glitz!

This week’s #PinkTutuBlogNYC kicks off with a little travel update. As usual, I am taking the metro everywhere. I absolutely love whizzing through the subway tunnels. This incredible network of underground lines is just so wonderfully efficient. The only tricky thing is the crowds at rush hour. You need to really use those elbows – which is slightly awkward in a tutu, to be honest.

An Afternoon at the Met

The first stop on today’s adventure is a visit to the Met – The Metropolitan Museum of Art – a treasure trove of culture, fashion, and of course, art! This museum is practically a mini world on its own. It’s a maze of galleries with more masterpieces than you can imagine, from ancient Egyptian artefacts to the Impressionist paintings that just whisper tales of Paris and swirling Parisian dresses.

It’s no surprise that the museum has a pretty impressive collection of ballet costumes. Today, I had my eyes set on the glittering, sequined masterpieces from the Russian Ballet. I love to study their shapes, how they flow, the way they mimic movement, imagining the dancers who once wore them – their graceful turns and grand leaps!

Time to Sparkle and Twirl at The School of American Ballet

After indulging in a little bit of artistic inspiration at the Met, it was off to another kind of stage - The School of American Ballet! Now, this place is a real hub of training for future stars of the ballet world, and I had the absolute pleasure of catching one of their public classes. Seeing these young dancers work their magic was utterly captivating. I must confess I got a little lost in the twirling and leaps, even started dreaming of the grand finale of The Nutcracker.

Ballet Dinner for a Diva

No visit to New York City is complete without a bit of pampering, right? I simply cannot resist a good bit of ballet themed fashion. Dinner was booked at a very fancy eatery called, 'La Ballerina', located just off Fifth Avenue. The décor is beautiful, and the entire space has been lovingly curated to celebrate ballet – think silk fabrics, ballet shoes dangling from chandeliers and walls, all pink, of course.

My Little Black Tutu and a Stroll in the Park

With the evening air just starting to cool, it’s the perfect time to indulge in one of my favourite activities - a walk in Central Park. There is just something so calming about being in the midst of this massive urban green oasis.

Tonight, I had the luxury of being joined by the very charming Michael, a local New York boy and aspiring theatre producer who shares my love for ballet (and pink tutus). Michael and I even attempted some impromptu pirouettes under the lampposts which got quite a few chuckles from passers-by. Who wouldn’t enjoy seeing a ballet-clad girl twirling in the middle of Central Park?

A Tutu-rific Ending

And what’s a night in New York without a dash of theatre magic? My darling Michael took me to a Broadway show – the always incredible Cats, in fact, to catch the finale! Even with a very strong focus on ballet, I find that the stage performances at Broadway are so visually stimulating. Seeing those dancers move, and those fantastic sets and costumes are truly a breathtaking experience. The night ended on a high, leaving me wanting more – just like always!

This whirlwind trip through the city that never sleeps had the perfect dose of everything I love. From elegant art to passionate performances and beautiful fashion, my pink tutu and I have seen it all in a day. And guess what? There are even more amazing ballet adventures on the horizon. You just have to keep your eye on this pink tutu-clad blog for more. I can’t wait to share those stories with you all next Monday!

Until then, go out there, find a pink tutu to wear, and dance your heart out!

Lots of love and twirls, Emma
