Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Monday 2024-07-22 – She Danced in New York City (Post #1520)
Helloooo my gorgeous ballet bunnies!
It's Monday again, which means a fresh dose of Pink Tutu Blog NYC has landed in your inbox. As always, I'm writing to you from the heart of the Big Apple, feeling utterly inspired after another whirlwind weekend in the city that never sleeps (or lets you wear boring clothes!).
This week, I've got a real treat for you: a little trip down memory lane, back to my ballet roots, as well as some brand-new shopping finds (pink, obviously), and a delightful theatrical performance that'll leave you dancing in the streets... or maybe just swaying slightly on the subway (we'll come back to that in a bit).
First things first, let's talk about this fabulous date: 22nd July! Today, the sun is shining, the birds are singing (well, they are probably actually pigeons, but they do sound pretty melodic), and New York is humming with energy. It's the kind of day that begs to be spent exploring the city’s vibrant streets.
I spent my morning at the stunning American Ballet Theatre studios for some serious pirouettes and chaîné turns. It was an absolute joy to be back in a studio environment, surrounded by fellow ballet lovers. And just in case you needed further inspiration, let me tell you, this studio has seen some legendary dancers strut their stuff over the years! Feeling inspired, I decided to channel my inner prima ballerina for the rest of the day. Which, as you can probably guess, involved a whole lot of pink.
Pink, darling, it’s the colour of New York City!
Well, at least according to this Pink Tutu aficionado. I kicked off the day with my new fave blush-pink blouse (from a tiny, charming shop on Bleecker Street), paired with a dreamy floral-patterned skirt, of course. For an extra dose of girly charm, I adorned my trusty (but totally fabulous) pink tote bag with a shimmering bow. Walking around New York in this get-up? I'd have a hard time blending in with the crowd... and I'd be perfectly okay with that.
And speaking of crowds, oh darling, the city was bursting at the seams with people. But hey, where's the fun in solitude? So I took to the streets with gusto, taking it all in. I was off to my absolute favourite department store, Macy's, to see if I could snag a real bargain on my latest tutu obsession. You know how it goes... always on the lookout for the perfect tulle, the perfect colour. It's an obsession, I tell you! After much sifting and sorting, I found it: a vintage-style pink tutu with a soft, silky finish. Just heavenly!
But it wasn't all about shopping this weekend! My Saturday night was filled with dazzling beauty as I caught a stunning performance of "Swan Lake" at the Metropolitan Opera House. Seriously, if you haven't seen the Met in all its gilded glory, do yourself a favour! It's just magical. And while the dancers were unbelievably talented, I think my favourite part was getting dressed up for the occasion. You know, I always find the perfect dress or skirt and suddenly, boom, there it is... the opportunity for my beloved pink tutu to shine. This time, I opted for a sleek, midnight blue midi-skirt, which provided a beautiful contrast against the ballet's ethereal backdrop. And, naturally, the finishing touch was my most dazzling pink tutu (the one that makes me feel like a true princess, just like all my fabulous ballet readers deserve!).
Don't underestimate the magic of pink!
Let me tell you, it really does make a difference to embrace a touch of colour in your life. I'm not saying every single piece in your wardrobe needs to be a shade of pink, darling, but there's just something about this colour that makes me feel so confident, happy, and oh so vibrant.
If you haven't been to New York City, I strongly encourage you to pack your bags. Trust me, it's an experience like no other! But if you need more inspiration, or perhaps you want to add a bit of sparkle to your own wardrobe, jump on the pink-tutu bandwagon! What better way to express your creativity than with a dash of playful whimsy? And while you're at it, don't be afraid to get adventurous.
It's this sense of exploration that keeps me coming back to New York City time and time again. Whether I'm dancing around in my pink tutu on the subway (I know it's a classic New York City experience) or strolling through Central Park with the wind in my hair, there's always something magical to discover. And speaking of magical moments, this weekend brought another unforgettable gem. I went to see a wonderfully eccentric street performance in Washington Square Park. This amazing, young artist transformed his simple clothing into elaborate costumes right in front of us. There were scarves, flowers, ribbons and more... It reminded me to never take anything for granted!
Just imagine a world full of Pink Tutued wonder!
Imagine a world full of colour, laughter, and yes, a generous dose of tutus. It's a world I dream of! But it takes effort, darling, and lots of enthusiasm!
So if you've made it this far into my blog, I have a small request. Today, do something a little out of the ordinary. It doesn’t have to be dramatic. Perhaps it's wearing your favourite pink accessory, buying yourself a delicious strawberry cupcake, or just spending a few moments admiring the beauty of a single sunflower. It doesn't matter how big or small, let it be a celebration of joy, a nod to the fabulous colour that makes the world a more exciting place.
Oh! And since I mentioned sunflowers, did you know that they track the sun across the sky? It's true! These golden beauties actually turn their heads, following the sun throughout the day, capturing as much sunshine as possible. What a reminder that even the simplest things can hold such amazing wonder! I’ll be bringing you more about my sun-soaked explorations next week (you guessed it - more pink!)
Until next time, Emma, Your Pink Tutu Blog NYC writer!
