Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post #1521 - Monday 2024-07-29 - She Danced in New York City 🩰

Hello darlings, and welcome back to the Pink Tutu Blog NYC! It's me, your favourite tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed gal, Emma, back with another post about all the fabulous things I've been up to in the Big Apple.

I can't believe it's Monday already - where does the time go? This past week has been an absolute whirlwind of performances, shopping sprees, and of course, plenty of pink tutu-wearing. But don't worry, I wouldn't have it any other way.

This week has been so hectic, that I'm not quite sure how to even begin! So, let's take it back to Friday...

The Enchanted Evening 💫

Oh my, the joy of performing in New York City! It never gets old. This week I had the privilege of gracing the stage at The Ailey Citigroup Theater in a fundraising event for a local dance company. My heart practically skipped a beat as I danced to Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" beneath the glitter-ball and the gaze of the Manhattan skyline. It's always magical performing in New York, the energy in the city is truly electric! The energy in the air is electrifying, like there's a certain sparkle only this city can offer.

Style Spotlight:

Let's talk outfit, shall we? I donned a gorgeous pale pink tulle tutu with a hand-beaded bodice that glistened like moonlight on a frosty lake. It's been in my wardrobe for a while, a beautiful antique piece, but I just knew it would be perfect for this magical performance. Of course, I couldn't forget my signature pink ribbon tied around my ballerina bun - every girl needs a touch of pink in their life, don't you agree? After the performance, a group of ladies who’d been watching the show even asked if they could take my photo! I must say, that little bit of attention makes my heart sing.

A Fashion Adventure in Soho 🛍️

The Saturday following my performance was a little day dedicated to fulfilling a lifelong dream - shopping on the streets of Soho! There was something so romantic about this little walk with my best friend. We strolled down Broadway and Mercer Street, where all the quirky, trendy shops were - you know the ones. We poked about in hidden boutiques that whispered promises of fashionista magic. It was as though a magical pink fairy dust was raining down on the whole day - a true testament to my favourite colour!

Shopping Spree:

I was on the hunt for a new tutu (as you always are when you see pink, darling). I came across this incredible shop, 'Little Tulle Treasures,' where they have the most whimsical creations! I snagged a perfectly pastel pink tutu with delicate lace embroidery and tiny white sequins - so utterly feminine! I simply couldn't resist! The colour is dreamy, you know, like the sky before the sunrise - oh darling, the colours just transport me to a magical wonderland. I feel a sense of lightness as soon as I put it on. I plan to wear it at my next ballet performance, though maybe not under this Manhattan glitter ball. It felt far more sophisticated than this city's lights and sound - if you know what I mean.

Broadway Glamour and Dreams 🎭

On Sunday, my bestie and I decided to soak up the Broadway glamour. You can't go to New York without experiencing a real Broadway show, can you? After much debate (the decision was harder than you might think!) we opted for a matinee of the beloved "Moulin Rouge!". Oh my, darling, it was just exquisite! The music, the dancing, the vibrant costumes, it transported us to a world of Parisian extravagance and romance. For a short time, it felt like we’d escaped New York’s city noise. We were back in Belle Époque, with beautiful, dazzling costumes and feather boas! Every moment was truly captivating. The dancing had so much charisma!

Inspiration:

And guess what? It really got me thinking! The Moulin Rouge is famed for its red, of course - and that’s how it gets its name, from the red windmill outside the club. This got me thinking: “Why do we just use red or pink when designing the dresses of the dancers? Why can’t the world of dancing explore the colour green, or bright blues and oranges?” It was an enlightening experience that got me thinking about colour and the magic that comes with dancing.

The End of the Weekend:

As our Broadway adventure came to a close, we wandered back through Times Square, soaking in the city's lights. A sense of deep peace filled me - like watching a show under the twinkling lights of a million little stars. It was then that I had one of those ideas which pop into your mind in a sudden, inspirational burst, as though they were meant to be…

Pink Tutu Dance Party - New York City Edition 🩰 🎉

Why not have a Pink Tutu Dance Party right here in the heart of New York City?! I've always been an advocate for getting people to embrace the pink tutu (and maybe just a hint of ballet!) in their lives. The dance party will be at the end of this week - on the first day of the first week of August! (And yes, we’re definitely going to make it on to social media - or at least that is the goal.) It’ll be the ultimate fusion of fashion and fun, celebrating everything from ballet class to Moulin Rouge, to well… the joy of simply dancing in a pink tutu! My goal: make the world embrace pink tutus and all their delightful, magical and empowering charm!

We'll be sharing more details later this week, so keep an eye out for the posts, darlings. I just know this will be a fantastic way to end the month in New York.

Back to Real Life, Back to the Pink Tutu

Now, the weekend is gone, and it's back to reality for this little ballerina. That means getting back to classes, to my ballet company - back to the studios and the routines, the long stretches and perfecting the "Fifth Port de bras", darling, if you will! And maybe that means another run to Little Tulle Treasures to get more pink in my life. And why not? It’s all about finding your own personal ballet muse! I’m happy to have found mine - as pink as can be.

So, keep on dancing, keep on dreaming, and of course, keep those pink tutus spinning, darling!

Until next week, darling…
