Pink Tutu Blog NYC #1531: A Week of Swirls, Swishes and Shopping in the City That Never Sleeps!
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, twirling, city-exploring Emma back with another exciting week of adventures from the fabulous New York City. This week's been filled with such a mix of delightful discoveries - think swirling through Broadway, a whirlwind shopping spree, and a glimpse into the beautiful world of New York ballet. Oh, and a few delicious pastries, naturally!
It's all about the Metro, lovelies!
I arrived in New York last Saturday with my trusty pink tutu suitcase and an excited heart, ready to conquer the city's legendary subway. You know how I love a good underground adventure, and New York’s metro really delivers! This week I whizzed between the buzzing boroughs like a seasoned pro – think the hustle and bustle of Times Square, the art-infused elegance of SoHo, and the quiet charm of Brooklyn. The metro truly becomes an extension of the city itself, filled with characters as unique as the graffiti on its walls. And I’ve certainly encountered a few intriguing faces along the way, especially when I whipped out my phone to capture the magnificent 'art in motion' – that's right, folks, the breathtaking choreography of fellow passengers swishing past on the platforms!
Fashion on the Floor (and in the Tutu!)
Speaking of artistry, this week's shopping adventures were simply divine. Imagine my delight when I discovered a store dedicated to the love of tutus – yep, an entire boutique where a tutu lover like myself can be totally spoilt for choice! There were floor-length tutus for dramatic waltzes, playful shorter styles for bouncy bourrées, even tutu-inspired clothing that I could rock on a day out in the city!
But my true fashion heart beats for the glorious streets of New York City itself. This week, I was blown away by the vibrant, creative energy – the clash of colours, the daring ensembles, the confidence oozing out of every window display. And of course, every single outfit screamed 'ready to twirl'.
Ballet in the Big Apple
This city is a magnet for ballet lovers like me. This week, I had the pleasure of seeing a captivating performance at the illustrious New York City Ballet. The elegance and precision of the dancers was truly captivating, and the music seemed to dance with the dancers on the stage, filling the theatre with emotion. You wouldn’t believe the incredible moves these ballerinas pulled off.
My favourite performance involved a male dancer with incredible artistry. His solo was a breathtaking mix of power and elegance – he had such a natural grace as he jumped, turned, and swirled across the stage, holding everyone captivated. You know I’ve got some moves too, but it took me several tries to master his favourite jump!
And then, I tried a different type of ballet this week. My New York journey wouldn’t be complete without a little bit of street ballet, right? So, I popped into a local studio to experience the magic of a ballet street class – think a little more freestyle and a lot more fun! We danced to everything from the latest hip hop beats to classic ballet music. It’s just amazing to discover all the different styles that are happening out there in the world of dance, so I’ve already booked myself in for another session next week!
The End of Another Twirling Week
As my week in New York comes to a close, I'm sitting here with a smile on my face, feeling utterly charmed by this magnificent city. The city's a kaleidoscope of colours, emotions, and experiences, and I've absolutely soaked it all in, from the whirlwind metro journeys to the breathtaking ballet performances and of course, the endless fashion adventures.
Every time I come back to New York, it fills my heart with so much inspiration. The city is truly magical, with so many hidden corners just waiting to be discovered, so I’ll be back again very soon to explore another side of the city and spread my love for all things pink and tutu!
But until then, keep your twirling shoes ready, and never, ever be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina.
See you soon, my loves!
With a swirl and a swish,
Emma

A little bit about today (October 7th)
Today, the 7th of October 2024, marks a beautiful autumnal day in New York. The leaves are turning shades of yellow, red, and orange, creating a stunning mosaic against the clear blue sky. This beautiful backdrop makes the perfect scenery for some wonderful autumnal twirls in my favorite tutu!
The city is bursting with the energy of the start of autumn. There’s an exciting, cosy vibe with shops full of Halloween decorations, pumpkins and delicious smells of apple pie and spiced lattes floating through the air. If you’re in the city today, make sure to stop by the farmer’s markets - there’s something incredibly inspiring about watching locals go about their daily routine.
It’s an especially special day because my friend Alice from Derbyshire, England, is coming to join me for the next few days! She's bringing her love of vintage fashion and some new tutu ideas, and I can’t wait to show her around this incredible city. We are planning to hit the Central Park, enjoy the beautiful sights, and have some fabulous vintage fashion fun. Who knows where we'll end up?
Stay tuned, darlings! It’s sure to be a twirlingly wonderful week!
