Pink Tutu Blog NYC #1532: Dancing in the City that Never Sleeps!

Hello, darlings! It’s Monday, the 14th of October 2024, and you know what that means – it’s time for another Pink Tutu Blog NYC adventure! This week I’m twirling through the streets of the Big Apple, with my pink tutu billowing in the autumn breeze. You can never be overdressed in New York, they say, and honestly, they're right. A splash of pink never hurts!

Last week, my dearest, was simply spectacular. I performed at the Metropolitan Opera House as part of their incredible 'Ballet Under the Stars' program. We were performing The Nutcracker - my favourite! There's something so magical about dancing amidst the soaring grandeur of the opera house. It makes me feel like I'm in a fairytale! Plus, you can never go wrong with a classic.

Afterwards, of course, it was time to enjoy the city's legendary theatre scene. I caught a preview performance of The Phantom of the Opera and let me tell you, it was utterly spellbinding! Seeing those chandeliers come crashing down, that’s theatre magic! It always puts me in the mood for a bit of light opera. 😉

This weekend, my love of dance has led me to some unexpected discoveries. On Saturday morning, I stumbled upon a vibrant little ballet studio nestled amongst the bustling cafes and bookstores in Greenwich Village. It's called Ballet Blooms. They have these amazing classes for all levels - from complete beginners like myself (don't worry, it's just me learning the moves!) to the seasoned professionals. I decided to give their 'Contemporary Fusion' class a go. It was a fabulous, empowering workout and a total hoot!

I love the eclectic energy of this neighbourhood, you never know what's going to jump out at you! I grabbed lunch after the class at a quaint Italian trattoria, where I devoured the most delicious focaccia – it was light, airy, and oozed with herby goodness. After a light and very Italian lunch, of course, I had to go and discover what treasures lay hidden amongst the stalls at a wonderful antiques market down a quiet cobbled alleyway. You can really get lost in the stories behind those objects! I found a magnificent Art Deco jewelry box that's going straight into my collection!

And speaking of collections, can we talk about fashion? The latest arrivals at Bergdorf Goodman have sent me into a whirl! There's a gorgeous collection of pastel pink velvet shoes that I'm just dying to wear to my next performance, and I've fallen in love with a tulle skirt that is literally the perfect shade of flamingo pink. If you're in New York and fancy a dose of serious fashion therapy, I highly recommend you swing by – especially for a delicious afternoon tea at their tearoom. It’s truly decadent!

After all that dancing and shopping, I took a trip to Bryant Park to catch some sunshine and admire the autumn colours. I grabbed a coffee from the famous Bryant Park cafe and indulged in a heavenly chocolate croissant - which I devoured in record time. If you’re in the city on a sunny day, make a pitstop. It's a true oasis amidst the urban jungle. The city just feels so peaceful in that space, like you can breathe a bit deeper.

Oh, and the New York subway is another world of its own! I adore the clanging, chugging chaos of it all – especially on a Friday evening with a city that feels a little bit alive after a long week. The best bit? My bright pink tutu always draws a smile to everyone's faces on the journey. Sometimes I even get some complimentary applause! Honestly, who can resist the charm of a dancing lady in pink?

For dinner, I indulged in some truly authentic New York-style pizza – thick, chewy crust, lashings of tangy tomato sauce, and all the cheese! It was absolutely heavenly. It's almost a little bit like going back in time to the original Italian restaurants in this neighbourhood, when the food was simply fantastic.

So much to discover! Every week in this fabulous city feels like a whole new adventure, it really is “the city that never sleeps” – the excitement truly is infectious.

And what have you been up to this week? Have you spotted a vibrant, pink-clad ballerina amongst the New York crowds? Let me know in the comments below – I'd love to hear about your adventures. Until next Monday, darling, keep on twirling!
