Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #1552 - New York City, March 3rd, 2025

Good morning, darlings! It’s Monday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog NYC adventure! I'm Emma, a twenty-something ballerina from Derbyshire, England, living my best life in the Big Apple, and this week, we're diving headfirst into the city's dazzling charm, fabulous fashion, and of course, my favourite pastime – ballet!

For those new to the Pink Tutu Blog, my mission is simple: to share my passion for all things pretty, pink, and tutu-tastic with the world. I believe every day is a chance to twirl, embrace colour, and spread joy, so join me as we explore the wonders of New York City, one shimmering pink tutu at a time!

Now, where were we? Ah, yes, my whirlwind New York adventures. Last week, I performed with the Ballet Metropolitans, the highlight of which was undoubtedly our performance of 'Giselle' in their exquisite new costume designs. There's nothing like dancing beneath those legendary chandeliers at Lincoln Center – sheer magic!

But enough about me, let’s dive into the excitement of New York this week, shall we?

Fashion First!

I'm in New York, the ultimate fashion playground, so you know I couldn't resist a shopping spree! This week I ventured to a quirky little boutique in Greenwich Village, the owner, a fabulous fellow who calls himself "The Bowtie Baron," is all about "retro-chic." Imagine this - it's a small shop bursting with velvet, polka dots, feather boas, and just a smattering of glitter! I found the perfect vintage pink cardigan, and of course, it was adorned with a giant velvet bow! It's a bit of a statement, but darling, New York thrives on those.

But you all know, there's no need for a special occasion to put on a pink tutu, it's an everyday look, darling! This week I paired mine with a cute, ruffled pink blouse and black tights for a look that's both elegant and whimsical.

Speaking of elegant and whimsical, let’s move on to the next big item on my agenda - Ballet!

Ballet in the Big Apple

Tonight, I’m venturing into the heart of New York’s ballet scene – a show at the legendary Metropolitan Opera House! It's "La Bayadère" and I am beyond excited. “La Bayadère” is a masterpiece; the storytelling is so vivid, the choreography is beautiful, and I always adore those elaborate costumes, especially the shimmering Indian-inspired gowns. I've got my trusty tutu, a vibrant pink feather boa, and my sparkly black shoes ready for the perfect theatre-going outfit. I’m planning to get there early and grab a little something sparkly at the gift shop.

But I can’t leave the ballet world just yet, darling. Tomorrow is another exciting event - an evening at the New York City Ballet! The programme tonight features Balanchine’s "The Four Temperaments" and some newer works by a rising star choreographer, something I'm always eager to experience.

And let’s not forget about my ballet classes! New York is full of talented instructors and fantastic studios. This week, I’m heading to "The Dance Gallery" in SoHo for a classical ballet class and "Bodywork Studios" for an hour of Contemporary Jazz to stretch my legs and explore different dance forms. It’s truly enriching to discover and experiment with different styles, whether it’s the classic elegance of ballet or the freedom of contemporary movement. I think you all need to give yourself the same challenge!

Adventures by Subway

Now, while I'm loving these dance experiences, my favourite way to navigate New York? The Metro! The Metro in New York is more than just transportation, it’s a portal to every corner of the city – and darling, it's packed full of adventures!

My adventures this week started with a trip to Brooklyn for a delightful afternoon in the Botanic Gardens. This beautiful haven was overflowing with colourful blooms. The tulips are especially glorious! And of course, I brought along a perfectly pink, flower-printed tote bag for all my little souvenirs. Then, it was back uptown to Lincoln Center for rehearsals, and a cheeky pit stop for a little treat – a gigantic, oh-so-pink ice cream cone from a little corner shop that seems to have the most wonderful pink confectionary treats! I love how every day brings a new adventure!

Later this week, I'll be venturing even further, taking the Metro to the vibrant borough of Queens! This time it’s all about discovering hidden treasures - vintage boutiques and local markets, I am already imagining all the potential vintage jewels!

Finding the Beauty in Every Corner

As much as I adore ballet and fashion, there is truly something special about the way New York City inspires a sense of magic in everything. The sheer variety of people, sights, and sounds create this captivating buzz, and I believe there's beauty in every corner if you just know where to look. My quest for pink continues to unfold, uncovering a beautiful new pink rose garden tucked away in Central Park and a charming vintage pink teacup hidden in a dusty bookshop in the Lower East Side! Every corner feels like an unexpected little surprise!

Of course, my adventures always include my favourite, pink tutu, as it's the perfect embodiment of my carefree spirit and my love for the city’s vibrancy. I adore how the city seems to embrace every whim and fantasy – and for that, I’m eternally grateful.

That’s all for this week, darlings. Join me next Monday for more Pink Tutu Blog adventures! Until then, stay sparkly, wear something pink, and don’t forget to twirl!

XOXO

Emma
