Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind week in the Big Apple! And oh, what a week it was.
From Derbyshire to the City that Never Sleeps
You might be wondering, how does a girl from a quaint little village in Derbyshire end up dancing her way through New York City, week after week? Well, I'm not quite a fairy godmother in a pink tutu, but I've certainly found my own magical path. It all started with my passion for ballet – not just watching it, but doing it. My love for this art form led me to performing, which in turn funded my travel adventures, bringing me right here to the incredible heart of dance: New York City!
And what a place it is. Each week is a whirlwind of vibrant colours, buzzing energy, and, of course, those incredible performances!
The Magic of the Met
This Monday, 17th March 2025, found me at the Metropolitan Opera House – oh, the splendour of it all! I was utterly mesmerized by the company's rendition of "La Traviata." The costumes, the music, the sheer talent... it transported me to another world. I'm still reeling from the exquisite dancing and the haunting beauty of the music. Did I mention the absolutely stunning ball scene? Talk about an opulent spectacle! I dare say I was the only one in the entire audience wearing a pink tutu, but hey, who cares, right?
Speaking of pink tutus, I was delighted to spot a new shop in the Village - "Pretty in Pink," a truly delightful haven of all things pink. From dazzling feather boas to exquisite floral headbands, my inner child went absolutely wild. It was just the tonic I needed after the Met's grand affair!
Streetside Style
From high culture to street life, New York is a tapestry of amazing experiences. I couldn't resist spending the afternoon browsing through the shops on Broadway, and my, oh my, did I score some fabulous finds! I fell in love with this divine floral print silk scarf, perfect for adding a touch of romanticism to any outfit.
But my biggest splurge this week was on a new pair of patent leather ballerina flats. You know, the kind that give you that oh-so-stylish ballerina look, even when you're not dancing on stage? Well, these beauties are a masterpiece of comfort and class! And, wouldn't you know it, they came in the most beautiful shade of pink – how could I resist?
Fuelled by Food
And, no visit to New York would be complete without indulging in the city's culinary delights. I'm not sure what's more impressive, the range of choices or the fact that New York truly elevates food to an art form.
This week I treated myself to a sumptuous lunch at the famous Katz's Delicatessen, savouring a juicy pastrami sandwich that literally melted in my mouth. It was pure comfort food heaven! Later, I discovered a hidden gem of a bakery in Greenwich Village called "La Belle Fleur," a truly romantic spot with divine pastries and a divine ambiance! My sweet tooth was in complete bliss, let me tell you.
The Pink Tutu Whisperer
This week, I found myself surrounded by people who, much to my delight, were starting to get my message: embrace your inner ballerina and rock a pink tutu! A few curious souls stopped me in the street, eager to know more about my pink tutu adventures. We even had a lovely chat with a family who loved the idea and were keen to try a family tutu moment at their next trip to the park.
It truly warms my heart to see how my love for the pink tutu can inspire others. Perhaps it's the symbolism of a dream realised, a passion expressed, or simply the joy of letting your inner ballerina shine through.
Adventures Await
Every Monday brings a fresh adventure in the magical city of New York. Next week, I'm venturing out to a new dance studio to try some Ballet Street classes. I can't wait to discover a new side of dance, a bit more street-style, a bit more edgy.
And, who knows, I might even inspire a few new pink tutu fans along the way!
