Hello, my darlings! I hope this finds you twirling into a brand new week with all the sparkle and joy a pink tutu can bring. This week, I'm bouncing back from my adventures in the Big Apple – New York City, that is! As a ballerina, it's a haven of artistic energy and, dare I say, fabulously fabulous fashion. But first, let's take a step back, shall we?
It’s Monday, which means it's Pink Tutu Blog NYC time! I'm your fellow tutu-lover, Emma, and it's my mission to spread the joy of pink tutus and twirling across the globe. I started this blog after leaving my lovely Derbyshire home for a whirl through the world of ballet, and to chronicle all my adventures. If you’re a fan of dance, travel, fabulous clothes, and everything pink, you’ve come to the right place.
The Metro's My Ballet
So, here I am in NYC. My latest venture in this vibrant city began with the classic New York experience: a metro journey! Nothing says "ballet in the big city" quite like squeezing onto a packed subway train with your trusty pink tutu and a suitcase full of even more sparkly, vibrant clothing. I have to say, the New Yorkers are a real mix – some stare in wonder at my pink tutu, others take it in their stride, just another day on the train in the city that never sleeps. But one thing is certain: there's always an element of theatricality to this vibrant city, and I’m a firm believer in bringing a touch of stage presence to the everyday.
The Magic of Broadway
What’s better than a ballet show? A Broadway musical! I spent the week in pure awe of the world-renowned theatre scene. This time, I went to see ‘The Phantom of the Opera,’ a show that truly had me mesmerized. It's always a breathtaking spectacle to see such artistry on stage and the entire performance, with the costumes, makeup and of course the choreography was absolutely stunning! It definitely filled my creative well with inspiration!
Pink Tutu Goes Shopping
Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without a bit of shopping. It's almost an intrinsic part of the NYC experience. What I love about the city is how you can find both the cutting-edge fashion trends as well as timeless classics - and all within a single block. I just know every single pink tutu-loving girl needs to make a pilgrimage to New York, the mecca of the most fashionable clothing ever!
My Favourites From My Shopping Spree
This trip was all about the big, bold and the undeniably fabulous, my darlings. Here’s what I snagged:
- Pink feather boa, because who can say no to feathers! It's just pure glam. The extra fluff around the neck just adds that touch of decadence I love for my ballerina wardrobe.
- A pair of sparkling pink ballet flats – just what every ballet girl needs for all those fancy lunches and after-show gatherings in the city! The city’s pace can leave you exhausted but luckily for me, ballet flats are super comfy and just as elegant, perfect for waltzing into dinner!
- A magnificent fuchsia tutu! I simply couldn't resist, it's big, bold and simply beautiful. I even brought it along for my little street performance on Saturday afternoon - more about that later!
- A silver sequined evening bag! You simply can't have a truly magnificent outfit without a matching bag, right? It goes with anything, and everything and fits my makeup kit and essential dancing necessities for after-shows.
- A beautiful pair of ruby red gloves. Red goes so beautifully with pink, and gloves add such a classic touch of class and femininity to my everyday wardrobe, from afternoon tea to shopping around in New York, gloves make every occasion feel a little bit more magical.
My Ballet Performance
The highlight of this trip? Well, that has to be my impromptu performance. On Saturday afternoon, I headed to Central Park for some fresh air and inspiration (and a photo op, naturally!), and I saw a small crowd gathering for a busker’s performance. I wasn’t one to just sit and watch! So, what does a pink-loving ballet enthusiast do? Twirl into the centre stage, of course! I slipped on my beautiful fuchsia tutu and performed a selection of pieces that were all a testament to the artistry of ballet, and to the grace and beauty of movement. I loved the smiles on people’s faces as I danced, they were so delighted to see the beauty of ballet unfolding in the middle of Central Park! It truly was an unforgettable experience for everyone and truly, my most special moment in NYC.
My Favourite Moments
- Breakfast with a Broadway Star! Yes, I got to enjoy a cuppa and some pastries with a very talented lady from the show "Six." I loved getting a little insight into her life and understanding how dedicated Broadway stars are to their art.
A ballet class with New York’s finest dancers! It’s just amazing how even a ballet class, miles away from the UK feels a world away from home! New York offers up something truly special in each ballet class and seeing how professionals work together was quite something else!
Why Wear Pink?
I always get asked “Why pink?” I’ve thought long and hard about this and the reasons I give usually differ. It’s a beautiful colour, of course, but beyond that? Well, it's my reminder to embrace joy, positivity, and above all, individuality. Pink makes me feel fearless and fabulous, and it helps me to express myself. You see, there is a little bit of a ballerina inside each one of us, we just need a little bit of pink to bring it out! So don’t be shy - if you are in a rut, embrace a colour of boldness.
From London to NYC, A Pink Tutu Journey
And now, my sweethearts, it's time for me to sign off. This journey to New York was packed full of magical moments, from the bright lights of Broadway to the twinkling streets of Manhattan. Remember to twirl, my lovely darlings. It's an affirmation that we are living life with grace, joy, and just a little bit of magic.
And remember, if you see me out and about in my pink tutu, please come and say hello! My life's journey wouldn't be nearly as fulfilling without my tutu family around me!
